^I agree. I don't see Team Pilipinas doing very well in FIBA. It's only a few weeks from now and they aren't ready.

The RP 2012 Olympic Team (Smart Gilas) has started training a year ago. This is a long term national program. They begged the PBA to represent thecountry for the last time this year since smart gilas is still to raw, hence Powerade team pilipinas was made.Originally Posted by jeyps11cab
Long term team...
It's only early this decade that the NBA realized that they cannot continue to select "stars" and win it all. We saw what happened in Indiana and the other international championships early this decade. Only until USA Basketball devoted a group of players who are committed to play for years with the team did they understand the system and played well (won the gold medal). The same thing needs to be done here. Keep this team for the next 2-4 years (add some youth into it) and keep on competing internationally and maybe we will have a chance. Problem is every time there is a change in the coaching staff there are changes in the line up. Maybe the coach should sign on for a longer period of time as well.
Look what happened to UP vs ADMU game....
89 points scored by 1 man, opponents coach should get axe
I don't get what you mean.

I think he's reffering to JRU's joshua saret scoring 89pts + quadruple double against AU in the NCAA jrs with AU losing 171-43.
Wow.
I guess the question is what was the competition like. Did they even put up a fight? In any case, that's still quite an accomplishment. Averaging 2+ pointsper minute in a game isn't an easy thing to do.
Ben! Are you back in the country? I haven't seen you since the last time we played ball in the Zone!!!Originally Posted by littlebenben
Hello guys, just come back from the last day of the jones cup in taipei. it's nice to see the RP team playing here although james and nick are abscent and jj is not playing. finally gt to watch the game live coz i have been waiting for three years for this moment. the game was delayed coz of the broken shot clock but both RP and Iran team players made it bcm an autograph session and soccer camp. it doesnt matter who win or lose in the end of the game. i have to say the RP team gt the best uniform from nike. they have to add more talents to the team if they want to beat those mid-asia monster teams.
i was wondering why the team put a yellow patch on their jerseys and now i knw why. best wishes for the former 1st family and all of u.
anyone gt the new nike RP team stuff for sell?
^Co-sign, dude! I have a lot of confidence in the Smart Gilas team that's been together for almost a year already. In that span of time, they've been to more international training/tournaments than Powerade-Pilipinas. Its not that I don't like the PBA backed RP Team, some of the playersthere really deserve their respective roster spots. But at the end of the day, what they've showed won't get them too far in Fiba Asia.Originally Posted by maxtempo96
wouldn't it be an empty victory if we succeed at international competitions with naturalized players contributing heavily to the RP team?
