OFFICIAL NYk '22 offseason thread, RJ extended

Still, not tryna deal with Ainge and overpay. That Gobert deal was ridiculous.
it was. would be overkill trading for mitchell after that deal. team would end up in the same position a few yrs down the line cause the young promising players had to be moved. ainge is eager to fleece. it's probably not necessary to cash in all those chips right now

Remember the young promising players in Gallo, Wilson Chandler and Mozgov? They all ended up being journey men.

RJ is the only legit asset we have outside of our picks. He won’t be involved.

Make the move. If we don’t make the move, whats our next step? What all star is gonna ask out? Beal? Lavine? Zion? Luka? We’ll be waiting forever while trading away our 13-16th first round picks for future protected first round picks.

There is no next step. Maybe try to unload Julius but according to the Knicks front office - That’s not in the plans.

This is the team we have now - relevant enough for big ratings and most likely another ticket sales increase.

Knicks are the highest worth NBA franchise for a reason.

We’ll always have the ratings. We’ll always be the franchise worth the most.

If we ever want to build something here, you know it wont happen through the draft. Has to happen via trade and free agency. We’ve cornered ourselves into this move, now make it. If other all stars see we’re winning that’s when they come.

This new generation of stars do not like the pressure, so clearly we need an actual competitive team to lessen the pressure.

That's exactly the point ...

You can't depend on the eatablished stars to become available and hope we can land them.

We need to capitalize on the picks by moving up in the draft of drafting and developing the kids.

**** the BS invest in the future and stop trying to shortcut our way to a playing tournament with stars that arguably had better teams than us and couldn't do **** in the playoffs.

based on what we've seen from Randle this past season, bringing on another player that will reduce his touches will only make things worse. his stock is at an all time low. Brunson himself can be the leader we need at that position and hopefully get the best out of Randle, since he's seemingly not going anywhere. Bringing in Spida won't help the Randle situation at all whatsoever. we can't have the locker room implode bc that'll throw away another season.

for the first time in forever, we have multiple FRPs. lets wait and make moves when necessary. after what Gobert just got, Jazz will want the king's ransom for Spida, and that will 100% include RJ. that is HARD no. we got what we needed out of FAs. hold on to those picks until at least the AS break and see whats going on around the league then. lets not get greedy just bc a big name is floating around.

We can forget about that plan now after the Brunson signing. This is a purgatory type roster. There are two stars available now, make the move.

we went 37-45 with Randle throwing in the towel halfway through the season and Burks playing PG. i legitimately think that Brunson can get us close to 50 wins. even if that means a 2nd round exist, so be it. we then build on that for the following season. we're not going to win a chip this year, so lets not try to go all in right away.

Without a doubt a year with a healthy Rose and Brunson can lead us to 45+ wins. Teams won’t be able to collapse on Randle as much now since Brunson will be zig zagging everywhere in the paint.

Still, that’s our ceiling. 45 wins.

Whens the next time 2 stars will be available like this? Another 3 years? 1st round exits for 3 years.

Purgatory is what you're proposing ....

Crippling our future ... perhaps another decade to have Brunson and Spida play the backcourt.

We will be in the same position .... losing 1st or 2nd round exits.

Right now I believe that we can be at least in the playoffs and be competitive enough to perhaps make it out of the 1st round all while keeping our picks .....

Spida and Brunson aint giving you anything more than what we have ....

So we’re a 1st round exit with and without Donovan? That doesn’t make sense.

We have 11 FRPs in the next 6 years. We won’t rebuild the right way like OKC or the Process Sixers. So what exactly is the plan? To just hoard picks and not even use them on draft night then continue to be a first round exit for the next 3 years?

We actually gotta get to the first round

Julius Randle is still on this team

even if we trade Fournier and Rose in the Spida deal, Dolan isnt going to pay the luxury tax for IQ and Obi's rookie extensions. we'll be able to have one MLE player and a bunch of minimum contracts.

Brunson - 25 mil per
Spida - 30 mil per
RJ - probably 25+ mil per
Randle - 24 mil per
Mitch - 15 mil per
Rose - 14 mil per
Fournier - 18 mil per

our back court defense would be TERRIBLE and Randle's effort is always dependent on how he feels that day. the roster would look good, but we'd get torched unless we score 130 ppg.

Perfect sense ...

Maybe a 2nd ... having superstars aint nothing unless they know how to play together and know how sacrifice for the team.

Who are we keeping, who are we signing to fill the void of the players traded?

Brunson / Rose
RJ / IQ / Grimes
Fournier / Cam / Keels
Randle / Obi
Mitch / Sims / Isiah

Is a pretty solid team ...

If we trade half of the squar / all rookies / who are we signing?? We really be cashed strapped with teams that probably wont make the finals.

You would have a horrendous defense and our backcourt def aint stopping anyone.

Fournier is a worse defender than Mitchell. So we have a worse defensive backcourt now.
We are talking about the backcourt but sure ....

Imagine

Brunson
Spida
RJ
Randle
Mitch

2 playes (1) not really mobile... playing defense ....

Rose
IQ
Fournier
Obi
Isiah

Now we're food as a 2nd unit.

Hell I'm starting to get scared for 2022.

IQ Obi Grimes Cam etc would all be traded in any deal.

Ok fine. Let’s roll out this roster then hoard picks in the 15-20 range hoping we’ll land maybe a couple more rotation players if we’re lucky. Then I guess we’ll realize none of this worked because we are first round exits and we still didnt land a star so no star wants to come alone like usual. Then maybe in 2026 when RJ leaves we can officially rebuild.

Cool

crazy how some of y’all preaching patience with our current roster makeup and pick situation when we already been at this for damn near 10 years

i’m all in on any move that doesn’t involve RJ

I Def agree we gotta cash in the picks at some point but I’d rather wait until at least the trade deadline to see what this team is doing.

Some of ya really dont want Mitchell ??

Like have you seen our current state ? lol

What do we have to lose?

All major stars are signing for a good 4-5 years, we should go after Mitchell,

Brunson, RJ, and Mitch, should be dead lock, add Mitchell to that, we should be solid, not a championship team but Mitchell being an all star could potentially attract someone else.

We dont necessarily need to draft on the mid 15-20 range but again, saying there arent players there or even superstars is crazy to me when you just paid JB and want to give the bag for Mitchell.

I dont get it.

Im not saying don't cash in, but for a redundant player ... nope. What was the point of Brunson?

Cap is used up because it has to be. Flexibility within those contracts. And year 3 of a rebuild.

Miss me with this typical Knicks panic ****. That’s that Screamin’ A media hype **** that clowns let get to them. Not good for your basketball well-being.

The absolutely horrid basketball takes takes any sense of credence away from most of these posts anyways .

But then again Knicks nation is so large it’s bound to be filled with all kinds of nitwits and characters, right?

Mitchell is a sure fire all star. Brunson isn’t. They are not the same player. Not even close.

Exactly what was the point of Brunson? To help us be a 8th seed? Which is gonna land us a 15th pick for the foreseeable future.

Also please look at the last 20 drafts. How many players drafted in the 15-20 range were all stars? Two

Since the chances of us drafting an all star in this purgatory range is very slim. Plus we dont Even have the assets to jump in a weak draft to get Ivey. That’s why you make this move.
