Hikers of NT - Official Hiking Thread

Someone fell off this like the day after I was here and died, since we’re posting sketchy hikes.

The first hike I posted has had like 13 people fall and die since 2000 something , with the amount of people who summit it each year, I like those odds 🤣

I hear it’s crazy lines and a lottery to even do it these days.

There is a lottery, so truly hoping we get lucky and can get a permit. I hear if you go early in the morning it’s not too crowded. Wish me luck.

Mt Storm King is def on my bucket list as a WA resident. I've done a few hikes this past spring so far. Just some easy, moderate and somewhat close ones, Poo Poo Point, Little Si, Explorer Falls and another ones whose name escapes me.

couple of my hike:
Vinicunca, lake humantay, inside the grand canyon, havasupai, local waterfall, horsehoe bend, angels landing and joshua tree

Grine Grine

Super jealous of your adventures! Looks like you’ve done quite a bit. What’s your favorite place you’ve been? And if you don’t mind me asking, where do you reside ?

I’d love to see many of these amazing places in South America, those flights are no joke tho, Patagonia is def on my bucket list .

Favorite place I’ve hiked was in Banos, Ecuador and Macchu Picchu.

Speaking of Patagonia, I’m hoping I can make it this year to Antarctica and do the hike there.

I’m actually in Atlanta. I love traveling to South America for that very reason.

In March we were in Grindelwald, Switzerland and hiked to Bachalpsee lake at Grindewald First. I don’t think we realized, even with all the snow, that the lake would be frozen over and covered with snow when we arrived, 🤣 honestly when I booked the trip I had no idea what the weather would be like, and there was NOT snow like this in the town.

I know in these pictures it looks very flat but there were quite a few very steep uphill portions, and being at 7000 feet above sea level while hiking uphill in snow…. I think it may have been the most physically and mentally challenging thing I’ve ever done. The snow really added to it being physically demanding. There were not many other people on the trail. Did see a few people with dogs though.

I haven’t done any backpacking yet, but plan to next year.

In a few weeks I’m going out to Utah, I’ll be visiting my gf who has an away rotation for med school there so she will be working, but we are planning to go to Bryce Canyon and Zion. Shes staying in Salt Lake City so we are hoping to find a good hike around there as well. Will post pics when I get back.

Just got back from an overnight backpacking trek with some buddies. It was over 90° and there was STILL snow on the ground in this area. I love these high elevation lakes. You can hear a damn pin drop at any moment it’s so quiet.

Put me on! I’ve come across waterfalls in the mountains but no open water like this. Looks awesome.

This was benson lake. Only 34 minute drive from Portland to the trailhead. Not a long hike. Pretty easy trail. A little too early in the season. Mosquitoes were violent

Tried to see if a thread existed and didn’t see anything.

Where my hikers of NT at? I didn’t pick up the hobby until this past year but now I’m obsessed 🤣

Did some great hiking in Sedona last month, and next month at the end of the month going to try and get a permit to Hike Angels Landing at Zion . Anyone do this hike before? It looks terrifying but also doable 🤣
IMG_2049.jpeg

I need to do this!!

Today was the day, completed Angel’s Landing 😎 what an experience.

I would like to start doing this soon. Please Northeast guys let me know where to go.

Upstate NY. CT. Vermont. Whatever.

Whatever.

Also which shoes do I buy?

Finally a thread for hikers 🥾 :hat

Gotta get back on my hiking tip! Was going strong for 2 years (pandemic to 2022ish). Now, I walk like 10K a day…..but nothing like actually getting out there and seeing nature, plus getting a great exercise.

Do you have a dog that you walk? My dog is a little over 8, and doesn’t walk early as much as she used to and it a little more difficult to hit 10k on a standard day. I was hitting 20k everyday in Utah over the weekend but that is NOT the norm lol.

I’ll tell you what though, after powering through those more challenging hikes, I can feel my body getting stronger and adapting and it feels GOOD. Wish I lived in an area where I could do trails with good elevations gains every weekend. Michigan is pretty flat 🤣

Saturday we did a 3 mile loop during sunset at Bryce Canyon. Got there pretty late, would have stayed to see the sky get really dark and the stars truly come out, but needed to get sleep for the next day.

What a neat place!
