The College Basketball Post

Where's this kid stack up in the 2011 class? Elite?

Give me the Sooners in Norman tonight...
Point guard Myck Kabongo, ranked No. 15 in the ESPNU Terrific 25, verbally committed to Texas on Monday. Kabongo is a native of Toronto, Ont. whopicked the Longhorns over Kansas, Florida, Wake Forest and Villanova.

Kabongo joins his St. Benedict's teammate Tristan Thompson, a Class of 2010 UT commit.

ESPN.com Recruiting Coordinator Antonio Williams talks about head coach Rick Barnes' newest recruit.

"Coach Barnes has the ability to attract talent from all over the country, foregoing traditional recruiting 'pipelines'," notes Williams."However, he may have established two gateways with this commitment from Kabongo.

"St Benedict's has one of the strongest basketball programs in the nation and now the Longhorns will have two Gray Bees on their future squads,"continued Williams. "Both Kabongo and Thompson hail from the Toronto area, giving Barnes a beat on other programs when it comes to recruiting there, whichhas provided a number of talented prospects for many college basketball teams recently."

Kabongo strengths are his speed and handle, according to Williams.

"Myck has unbelievable quickness and ball-handling skills, which makes him a great penetrator," he said. "His quickness makes him a perfectmatch for Texas' up-tempo attack. Kabongo uses his speed to penetrate to the basket, where he uses a nice arsenal of floaters to score. He will hit jumpersfrom 3-point line, but he needs to become a better shooter from the perimeter."

Kabongo needs to work on getting his teammates more involved.

"He has good vision and passing skills, though he has a tendency to look for his own offense a little too much," Williams said. "Kabongo alsoneeds to become stronger which will undoubtedly help his shooting accuracy and range.

"He excels as an on-ball defender, using his outstanding lateral quickness to hound opposing guards, often picking them up in the backcourt and playing94-feet of pressure defense," concluded Williams.
December, 2008: This super quick lead guard continues to impress. He pushes the ball in transition with tremendous speed and quickness. Heis a terrific ball handler and passer that can beat his man with crossover, between the legs and hesitation moves. Kabongo also has a quick first step andburst on speed that allows him to get to the rim before the help side defenders can react. Kabongo finishes inside with high arcing layups over outstretchedhands. Kabongo displayed good leadership skills and the ability to run the offense. Kabongo also sets the tone on the defensive end with tremendous ballpressure. He has quick hands and feet and does a great job of maintaining the offensive player%u2019s attention at all times. Kabongo must improve his threeshooting. He is streaky but must work for consistence to set up his penetration. At times he over penetrates which results in a turnover. He competes at alltimes as well. Kabongo will need to get stronger but is clearly a high major point guard.

June, 2008: As fast a lead guard as anyone in the country in his class. Explodes up and down the court and gets from foul line to foul linein the blink of an eye. Myck handles the ball as if it was an extension of his arm and he can find the gaps and get to the rim before defenses react. He thinkslike a true point guard and loves to pile up the assists. He needs to improve both his catch and shoot and pullup jumpers but he has three years to accomplishthis, He looks like he could still grow a couple of inches and he has the potential to one day be the John Wall of his class.

December, 2007: Myck Kabongo has great size already for the point guard position and he appears to play the position naturally. He needs toimprove his strength and he needs to work on getting his body lower to the ground when he drives the ball to become more explosive. Time will tell how well hewill develop his game, but he plays at a great high school and competes with good players every day and he more than holds his own already.

Gody is gonna have to drop 40 for ND to have a chance with the defense he's playing. He's letting Samardo catch way too deep.

At this point though, looks like he's got NPOY wrapped up.

He might not get 40, but he's going to be close to it if he keeps playing how he's playing.

@ Raft saying something like "going to the left, coming back to the right, ON THE CREW CUT"

McAlarney is such an X factor ... especially come March... he's the kind of guy that can win a game by himself if he gets hot.

LOVE when Ville locks up like this..

ND doesn't win on the road, it's simple as that.

As far as G'town goes...probably not beating Duke at Cameron....but I'll take that match up in March, gladly.

Ryan Ayers is so bad. It is sad watching 'Gody put this team on his back every night. In my mind, Player of the Year so far, just about to add to hisresume.

And...

'Gody>Earl Clark.

It hust to see young boi get yammed on like that

And Cuse, unless there can be a whole demolition of your city, don't think there is a bet worth making.
