***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Well well, a guy that lives in a country with socialized healthcare is here to moral grandstand and tell us how we're supposed to feel about what happened.

A guy that has never had to live knowing that if you lose your job, you either pay exorbitant premiums for insurance or go without. Never had to live knowing you're potentially one major surgery or cancer treatment away from being homeless and financially ruined. Never had to deal with friends or family members getting denied medicine and treatments just because.

And a guy that played a major role in all this and whose policies have directly killed and bankrupted countless people while his pay and company profits have skyrocketed gets got and we're supposed to feel bad?

It never changes

Did you guys know Canada has socialized medicine because a bunch of pissed off socialist farmers from America moved up there back in the day and set it off?

If you learn anything about the rise of single payer health care in Canada....

the real fight is with doctors and hospitals not with insurance companies.
There the ones with the real political power.

On second thought, I can see folks not caring much if at all.

health insurance is a relatively low margin business, the power of single payer comes from forcing hospitals and doctors to charge less

Tommy Douglas built single payer health care in Canada, with FIERCE opposition from Doctors. they went on tv in white coats telling people how bad it was gonna be.
they went on strike, it was a tough difficult political battle that really involved persuading the public.

and keeping support high despite peoples family doctors telling them they would die waiting in line to see a doctors.

this a perfect example of what im talking about, the doctors and the hospitals deserve so much hate,

people just naturally hate insurance brokers and like doctors.

Doctors and hospitals in america charge insane prices, and the insurance company generally just has to pay it.
and if they don't doctors make a big stink and everyone sides with the doctors.

Sarah Kliff covered this extensively back when she worked at Vox.
US Hospital get away with insane things in terms of surprise medical billing.

Haven’t heard much on more restrictive gun laws in response to the killing of the United CEO.
Fighting back the natural urge to say “shut up, Delk,” that narrative generally isn’t pushed after a single murder with a handgun. That conversation generally comes up after a mass shooting that was committed with a semi-automatic rifle.

This is low-quality trolling, even by your standards.

The vast majority of gun deaths in the US are by handgun and are not mass shooting incidents. Given the statistics, I’m not sure how it makes sense to only discuss restrictive gun laws after a mass shooting or a shooting with a semi-automatic rifle, if the goal is to seriously address the issue.

Appreciate the insight but that still doesn't change the fact that uniteds rate is so much higher. You have to assume that across the board, the amount of billing errors or programs denied by state programs should be a more or less evenly distributed. So if United is denying at a much higher rate than most others, it's because there's something in their process or philosophy that's causing their rejection rate to be so high.
It really depends. I don't know United's processes, but they can just have a zero tolerance for bad billing. A lot of healthplans would ignore some bad billing and pay the providers claim anyway just to not impact their member. They can also have bad configuration that is causing claims to deny erroneously. With 51 million members, I assume they receive millions of claims per day. It would be interesting to know how many of those claims are rebilled and if they still get denied.
The ACA has really cracked down on greedy healthplan predatory practices.

If this was anyone else I'd say that there's a problem in putting all gun violence under one blanket. The motives, targets, methods, and root causes vary greatly between your typical mass shooting event and your typical handgun homicide. There should be more nuance in these discussions.

But instead I'm just gonna say "shut up, Delk" and stop responding to you.

The threat of a bullet in the back of the head becoming much more real probably had something to do with it too.
