This is what it comes down to for me, call him the best receiving/pass catching TE ever and I won't disagree.I think he's in the same league as a player. Not specifically as a TE though. A lot more to the position than catching balls.
Best TE ever though encomposses everything that the position has been and entailed since it's inception and that's never been just a receiver, that's what WR's are for . I'll never agree that he's the best at everything that a TE is asked to be.
These discussions are going to be interesting in the future though to see where people gloss over context or don't.
If stats are gonna be the end all be all, then every elite WR,TE and QB active from now and moving forward will be in discussions as the best ever because their stats are gonna be ridiculous in this era of pass dominant offenses and an extra game.
