I'm California too and I would say start with any of the following:
Prize Picks
Underdog
Betr
Underdog is great for 3-pick slips because they pay out 6x. Bet $5, get $30
Prize Picks and Betr only pay out 5x for that same slip, BUT they have 10x payout when you do a 5-pick with insurance. Bet $5, get $50, and if you miss one pick, you get $10.
The real answer tho, is to get all 3. That way you can take advantage of the different promos. Prize Picks runs Taco Tuesdays and Flex Fridays. Underdog has been doing huge 20%-50% payout boosts for some reason. Betr seems to have discounted picks daily now
Once you get the hang of these, you can start branching out to even more apps like dabble, Sleeper, and Chalkboard.
