STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

Taking a week off from cutting (well currently taking a week off) been cutting 9 months and after bombing gmat been feeling low, I've still cut a few days this week but there's been days I've said what ever and this past weekend I went in. Gonna use Saturday to sleep in and get my mind right and finish out the last stretch of my cut. I expect to go from 235 to maybe 240 something because of the extra water I gain, I'm still lifting and doing cardio (I'm skipping today long day at work) so the fat gain shouldn't be insane.

Keep your head up bro. Refocus yourself and get back to it. Stay positive.

Good move, everything should be about getting your mind right. You've been at it for almost a year, a week is nothing especially if you keep lifting. Everyone needs a break. :smokin

had the greatest cheat meal moment last night...

Wendy's Baconator, Large Fries, Diet Coke... then a bag of cookie corner cookies :smokin

woke up the next morning and killed it on the courts... all those calories actually helped lol

School me on BCAA's guys...should I be taking it? Don't really know too much about it.

if you take whey protein and eat food during the day you should have plenty.

the only reason some even take it is because its pretty close to no calories, no sugar, and some have good flavor so its pretty much for taste. thats the only reason i even take on the drive to the gym. otherwise its worthless IMO

lol I useually feel so good in the Gym the day after I go ham and eat like 3k Calories. I been loosing like 3.5 lbs a week last 3 weeks which I kinda think is too fast, so me going in this week yea it feels bad after thought, isnt that bad, I`m still on path to be at 100 lbs lost by August hell I was 15 lbs away last week at 235, and like I said I`m probably gonna shoot up to like 245 mainly water.

brb getting some ice cream :{

I've seen this pic a lot over the past week. Staged, but I would lose focus with that mass in my face too. 105s be damned.

Enjoying your cheat meal is a plus in my book, but damn lol. I need some authentic food for my cheats.

Ya - they fit in if you're doing IF or something along those lines.

With you 100percent on this.

Look at sports where size isn't the goal of athletes - track sprinters, guards in basketball, etc... These guys aren't generally very big because they want to be quick. While football players lift for both hypertrophy and strength (because good football players need to be big AND strong), there is little reason for a sprinter or guard to be "big."

That being said, do these people look "big" on tv? Of course they do. Most of these guys have ridiculous body fat %s and still do have pretty big muscles. The amount of weight that these guys can lift though for the size of their body is unreal. If you train for strength (low reps) as opposed to muscle size, you are better off in many sports.

Not true at all. Fast and big are not related in the way you are supposing. Actually, with increasing size (at equal body fat percentages), more muscular athletes will be faster (up to a point). Speed and explosive power output from the lower body increases with strength because speed is a function of strength.

There is Russian data that collected information on the vertical jump heights of olympic weightlifters. They found that the 90kg weight class had the highest vertical jump, not the lighter guys or the super heavyweights. This is due to a variety of factors, but these athletes are leaner than the super heavyweights, stronger than the lighter weight classes, and use fairly heavy loads in their training.

Look at the sport where being bigger hurts you: Gymnastics. In the men, there is a certain level of muscularity involved, despite not eating or training directly for it. Look at high level rings specialists, they are very muscular, and it is required for their performance.

Hypertrophy is absolutely required for higher level athletic performance. Granted, you don't have to be as big as a competitive bodybuilder, but you definitely have to be more muscular than a 12 year old stamp collector.

I suggest that you read this article by Kelly Baggett that discuses the idea of "nonfunctional hypertrophy" :
http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/nonfunctionalmyth.html

Well once again....the comment was made about boxing....which is almost an endurance sport. When you do all that speed training and cardio you tend to slim out. When the bigger looking guys step into the ring and they are all super muscular....they tend to move slower. Which can have to do with their training regime. This is not always the case....but boxers tend to be slim because of all the endurance training they have to do to make it a full 12 rounds. They don't want the big huge muscles....that will not help them in the ring as much as extremely fast hands. Yes they are muscular...but functionally for their sport.

But either way great post and a lot of good info :smokin

I feel you man, I took this entire week off no gym at all. I've been going steadily going for the last 4months 4-6days a week, and I just needed a break. Allergies and just plain ol' exhaustion from school/work all factored in. But now I'm ready to go back and just go H.A.M. Ready Mentally & Physically. My girl says she's noticed that I'm super cranky on days that I don't go, so I definitely need to get back to it to relieve some stress.

Sidenote: Why is that when I don't go to the gym I tend to make bad food decisions. It's like "sure I'll have one of those cookies, ooo chips yea let me get some, Is that pink lemonade, oh yes please pour me a cup" It's an endless dirty little cycle I go through.
