R.I.P Trayvon

I think you are correct ...

This brings me back to a conversation I was having at work ...

Someone was referring to President Obamas speech stating he hit the nail in the head. He went along to say something in regards to people don't know what blacks have gone thru. That they have the right to complain as they have suffer the most.

I brought up the Jews and he said in America and then I said the Native Indians and he said, they didn't suffer as much as we did. I said they got killed no slavery option and now they are confine to camps (which is by choice). He was like and you said that's suffering more than blacks?

Like I don't get it man - slavery been over - why dwell on the past. Yes we have to acknowledge it happen and it's a tragedy but to bring it up every time something goes wrong is ******g stupid. Furthermore, to not try and move on is stupid.

Hispanic has as much if not more to complain, but like this guy said, a lot of them have moved on.

Slavery, Genocide, Religion forced up them, etc etc etc ...
slavery ended centuries ago, yes. the affects of slavery are still present today and are at the root of the issues within the community. it also can't be ignored that slavery is what helped build this country, economically and structurally. the exploitation and bloodshed of blacks that helped start america is what helps america continue to exist today.

yes, jews were ruthlessly murdered in germany. and then they were given lofty reparations, many of which helped turn the victims' descendants into millionaires, even here in america. sure, it doesn't erase the holocaust but it has surely helped repair the damage that was done.

has this country attempted to help the victims of slavery (not the slaves, but their descendants that live here today) as germany did the jews? so why should we treat slavery with the same peace as we treat the holocaust?

it also doesn't help that america is letting it be known that nothing has or will change by acquitting zimmerman, either.

6 Jurors acquitted Zimmerman not America.
but it's a reflection of the justice system and its inadequacy. sugar coat it all you'd like.

prior to the trial, the media let it be known that trayvon's life was worthless. the jury only echoed the sentiment.

MY MAN!!!!!!!!! you all need to listen to this statement!!!!! i would rep you a trillion times if i could!

i've avoided posting in this thread because i'm still not over trayvon's death and how the trial was mishanded. but ninjahood is a clown. he's so insecure and transparent. it's really something else.

it's like he's deflecting his sense of racial inferiority by going out his way to disrespect blacks every chance he gets. he's talking about he never had racist experiences? maybe because he stays confined to the heights which is 1,000% dominican. probably went to school there his entire life and rarely leaves. why don't you take the 1 to midtown and tell me you don't experience racism? chelsea? e. vil? or are you just saying it to create more of an argument?

the division among black minorities (african americans and hispanics) is too ironic because we're all still in the same boat. spanish people are so consumed by their own culture that they somehow think they've been dealt a better hand. the entire spanish culture is a deviation of african culture (music especially). whites will never look at you as an equal, no matter how hard you reject your complexion. you're only playing yourself.
Us Hispanics just keep it moving though, we don't sit around feeling sorry for ourselves and always playing the victim.

Yes I am. I'm Puerto Rican.

In all honesty, what race hasn't America enslaved? This country was built off the backs of colored people of all shades, even white. But at some point, the parents need to step in and start teaching children the importance of education. Is it really the white man making young children believe the only way to make money is by being a drug dealer, a rapper, or going pro? I've always wondered why that mindset seems so heavily instilled in certain minorities yet other minorities have grasped the concept that education = real power.

He's the hero that we deserve, but not the one we need right now...and so we'll bash him on NT, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...a dark knight... a Zimmerman.

what happens when your parents are uneducated, and the only symbols of success you see are illegal? it's hard for some to grasp but this is the reality of thousands right here in america. i agree that education is the key but you only know better if you're taught better.

when people have positive influences in their life, they usually don't chalk their success up to that. they credit their success to themselves and making the right decisions. but influence is what steers you in either direction.

this isnt just black people though, there are people of other races that also dont know any better and are stuck in an endless loop of poverty. its more of a culture thing than a race thing, there are black people who are rich get their kids good educations and stay rich just like there are white people that are poor, and stay poor. at the end of the day is on the community to break out of this loop of poverty. sitting at home crying about how other races are better off wont do anything, people need to stop blaming outside factors and look at themselves

Wow. Seriously?

The school systems in the underdeveloped communities are not equal to the school systems in more affluent communities. The way people think in those areas is the after effect of segregation and institutional racism. It's what happens when you separate people and force them to progress with less resources than others. When you deny access to better education, better jobs, and higher society, people have no choice but to go back to the broken system built to work against them.

Tell me this. How are people supposed to progress equally through time if you give one group better access to education and never deny them from anything, while doing the opposite to another group? If you can't see how unfair it's been and how it still effects people today, that's fine, but you're not helping anything by just pointing fingers.

"Work harder" is no more a solution for institutional and cultural racism than it is a cure for cancer.  You can, with little personal difficulty, tell someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, "well, there's no sense sitting around moping about it.  You should try to make the most of the life you have!"  That's all fine as well, as facile, Pollyannish platitudes go, but it doesn't really solve the problem of cancer, does it?  It doesn't prevent other people from developing cancer.  It's just saying, usually from the position of superior comfort, "pain is inevitable; suffering is optional."

"Work harder" is easy individual advice to dole out, but it does not in any  way solve the SOCIAL illness of racism - and I find it TRULY ironic given that, as "solutions" go, one could hardly contrive a more LAZY and EFFORTLESS one.

I use to think like this too. I learned a secret tho. There's almost 3 times the amount of poor white people/kids in this country than poor black people and there school systems are less than underdeveloped. There communities are beyond poor. Most have no access to essentials like water and gas hell they live motor homes.

So the inner city looks like the land of opportunity to them. "The grass is always greener"

back to the Urban Public school system tho...

The same public system was far worse as far as resources, quality of educators and education in the early to mid 1900s but for some strange reason those underdeveloped under funded....segregated schools produced all of the Black Kings we know today. For some strange reason black on black extermination wasnt a major problem. For some strange reason black economics was at an all time high...

What was the difference?

Family and the "it takes a village mentality" was still intact. The promotion of education being the way out...not rap...not sports....not drugs...but those books in the library.

Fast forward 50 years almost everyone has access to the largest library in the history of the world.......in their hands

So why is the gap getting wider tho?

Like I said the home base isnt strong anymore. Education isnt being promoted. Which is why it seems like researching "How to Twerk" is more of a vast query than searching "How To Better Myself" "How To Build A business".....TedTalks is just as available in the "hood" as Worldstar is.

Education isnt cool anymore

But thats something that can easily be solved no need to march for invisible causes.... just be a mentor or an extended family member to young black kid that you noticed doesnt have a stable home. Hell thats what I did when I was in school.

All that pointing and blaming "systems" aint gonna make nothing better. Actually raising our kids will.

Which is why the whole "stop distracting us from protesting something we cant control (Trayvon) for something we actually can (everyday inner city murder of black youngsters) is frustrating.

All this adopting a deceased black kid will do nothing. Go find an alive Trayvon to care about and keep out of harms way.

Damn Uncle Tom Tune trying to make black folks take responsibility for their problems. Giving actual solutions and **** :{

No one is "blaming" any systems. There's obviously a root to the issue. Do you think people just made a concious decision to live in those scenarios you described? It's just pointless to start criticizing people for their predicament when someone has no interest in helping or acknowledging racial inequalities.

There's poor people of all colours, its not exclusive to one group, but there's a huge disproportion when it comes to well off people. There are people who do work hard that still can't shake the perception of them from others based on their looks. It has caused problems that wouldn't effect other people.

They should shut up and pull themselves up from their bootstraps.
