What would Portland have left to make them contenders if they make that deal? Bayless and Babbitt? Also, I thought Roy didn't like playing with ball dominant PG's since he like to have the ball in his hands a lot?

maybe i must of missed the inside joke

portland wont trade batum? *** and why would the still hold on to oden?

CP3,Roy,Babbitt and LA is nice core to build around

Real talk, this is CP3 we're talking about.  Batum and Oden will never be superstars, Portland will trade those to with a quickness for CP3.

They friggin ADORE Batum around here, they call him Scottie Pippen-esque.

When this was going on during the draft, they were callin in left and right that they wouldn't want to include him in a deal for Paul.

They all take their cues from Pritchard in the "over hype our players" category.

But trust, the second he becomes a Hornet, they'll act like he's Luke Walton.  They do that @#$% all the time.

That's what I thought.

Last time I checked they loved the guy. I'm willing to bet that he's their most untouchable player behind Roy.

Was Skip Bayless playing around on 1st and 10 when he said Memphis could put together one of the better packages for him? I hope he wasn't being a smart %*+.

There were articles out how Portland and NO were close to a trade involving CP3 awhile back, and how NO pulled out of the deal last minute. Forgot who was involved, though. What Portland has to offer, doesn't seem all that enticing.

So, what deal would Portland put together?
The source I posted says this:
***Chris Paul & Emeka Okafor to Portland (if CP3 is traded a team HAS to take Okafor and his horrible contract with him!!!!!)
***Greg Oden, Rudy Fernandez, Nicolas Batum, Andre Miller, The rights to Joel Freeland and a 2011 or 2012 1st round draft pick to New Orleans

You can keep thinking that.

How exactly would Paul and Roy work in the backcourt though? That's also a huge risk for New Orleans to take with Oden. Just as bad as them taking Bynum or Perkins. I don't think they would want to trade their superstar only to get a guy that just may stay hurt for the majority of the season. Maybe that's why they would want Batum as well in the deal. Getting Miller would be pointless, I'm sure that would be the expiring part along with Fernandez.

So, basically they getting $8mil in expirings between Miller and Rudy, injury prone center in Oden and Batum for CP3 and Okafor? And people called my offer bad.

Now that I think about it, its amazing that Portland wouldn't accept that all because of Batum.

YAO IS DONE

It's not an overstatement to say that Yao Ming(notes) changes the complexion of the NBA. Hyper-skilled, 7-foot-6 centers with flat-tops seem to have that effect. The Rockets are an average team without their centerpiece, but with him healthy — no easy thing, admittedly — they are a team that can contend in the Western Conference. So after a season of the Rockets playing 21 different guys, none of which were even 7-feet tall, the Houston faithful are pretty excited to be getting Yao back.

However, to hear it from Yao, those fans shouldn't be expecting much. He's coming off a foot injury, and those are usually a bother for giants. In fact, he's saying that no one should expect much from him this coming season. From Reuters:
"Talk about recovering my form is nothing but nonsense and will only be realized if I can get through the next season smoothly," he said in an interview in Thursday's China Daily.

"Then, you will see results after that season."

Yao, who exercised the player option in his contract with the Rockets last month to avoid free agency, said he was unsure what kind of contribution he would be able to make to the team's bid to win the NBA title next season.

"I have no idea if I can return the peak of my form," he added. "I have not been tested. I have not played competitive basketball since the injury even in training. I cannot answer if I will return to my best."

Honesty is the best policy, but sometimes it is also the policy that brings the most frowns. And while Houston fans are probably having some serious upside-down smiles right now, the biggest sadness is that of Yao. He seems seriously bummed about having to return from injury.
"I know I will retire one day. My career will end sooner or later. Even if I can play until I am 36, I have to accept that fact," said Yao, who will turn 30 in September.

"The only problem is that 30 is the golden time for an athlete, but for me it's sudden death and I find it hard to accept that."

So yeah, even though he's really good and really, really, really tall, maybe we should temper our expectations for Yao this year. Between having to deal with a foot that he's not sure will hold up and confidence that is clearly shaken, this might not be the Yao Ming we're used to. On the bright side, Yao struggling to come back means that much more Brad Miller(notes). There's always a silver lining, folks.

Non one who was realistic about the situation wasn't really pinning their hopes on him though. I sure wasn't.

If he can't play then the Rox should cut their losses and move on.

Marquis back with the C's for a one year deal worth 2.5 million.

Not bad for either side.

Marquis could have gotten more though.

I expect him to have a much bigger role next year, as he'll be fully healthy.

Do the Celtics think they can breeze through the regular season and turn on the switch in the playoffs again?

Team is taking steps backwards.

One year deal agreed upon for between Kings and Mr. I can't intentionally foul to save my life, Antoine Wright.

If he can't come back from this surgery, Yao is done.

But we've seen Big Z bounce back after the foot reconstruction surgery, so who knows.

What Yao is really saying is, yeah he's coming back, but even he doesn't know what to expect, since he's been out a year/coming off this serious surgery.

He's basically looking to make it through a full season, rather than worry about returning to form.

Regardless, I don't think Yao is going to play more then 20-25MPG next season, unless they make the playoffs, in which they'll bump it up.
Theo Ratliff Joins Lakers
Jul 22, 2010 8:16 PM EST

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent center Theo Ratliff, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. Per team policy terms of the contract were not released.

“I’ve had a long and very rewarding career, and joining a storied and legendary franchise such as the Lakers adds an even more special element,

Yao and Big Z are different breeds of animals.

Big Z is your typical 7' big man.

Yao is gigantic.

I'd rather him take entire 2010-2011 season off, get in shape, don't risk getting hurt, and go out in 2011-2012 to try and solidify his career instead of risking injury.

Wasn't his original timetable to return in the 2011-2012 season?

Regardless, Yao, your time here has been amazing, the guys talent is unmatched for anyone his size.

what exactly does ratliff have left though???

and if im new york i watch if melo signs the extension. if he does i throw everything not named amare atthe hornets to try and get paul. even if it means giving them the next 3 first rounders

The whole foot reconstruction surgery is something that's fairly new. I think Big Z was the first to get it.

Yao could take the 2010-2011 season off, but it's going to be the same thing at the start of the 2011 season. Will the foot hold up?

There's no way of knowing until he actually gets into games. Which is why he already took all of last year off, to have this extreme procedure done.

@WojYahooNBA Matt Barnes has agreed in principle on a two-year, $3.6 million deal with the Lakers, league sources tell Y! He's expected to sign tonight.
Damn Mitch cleaned up this off-season.

Best of luck to Shannon Brown.

Same reason why Roy didn't like playing beside Miller.

I'm sure they could try and make it work for the good of having two all-stars in the backcourt.

But, its not the best situation Paul could be in playing next to a ball dominant SG.
