Maybe someone can explain the student loan forgiveness thing to me? Folks just get let off the hook after they promised to repay loans that they weren’t obligated to take out in the first place?

I think it’s $10,000 for everyone, $50,000 if you went to a public college.

That is what it is now..... let’s see where it ends up.

To be perfectly honest, and be real. The last 4 years have really been a lot. I knew it was bad, but I was making it through. But hearing Biden won, and after a BLM protest on Saturday against a local government. I got home and in all honesty I felt heavy. It hit me how much of a struggle the last 4 years really have been. I was alone in a room, and really just wanted to cry with someone (as weird as it sounds).
It’s been a disaster. Every day worrying about who he’s going after or afraid what he was going to do, having to be glued to the news because you couldn’t just be like “I’ll skip the news today, Everything will be fine.”

I'm guessing he will instruct the Department of Education to stop collecting on federal student loans permanently for the first 50K of student loans. I doubt he has executive authority to do it for private loans so people are still going to be on the hook for those. Trump already stopped collection on those loans in like March. This would just make it permanent (at least for the next four years)

Definitely, feels like so much anxiety and pressure has been lifted. Of course the country is still ****** and going through a lot but this moron not running anything will do wonders for us all. I mean seriously.

This student debt forgiveness would be crazy.

This election pretty much proved that the idea of mass voting would cause republicans to get washed was pretty much incorrect on so many levels this year though. Huge voter turnout helped them flip a bunch of house seats and potentially keep the senate majority. The only reason it even seems like a bad outcome for them is because Trump is maybe the least popular president of all time and lost, but it was much closer than predicted. Mass voting was by and large FAVORABLE to republicans this year. If they are smart they would make it easier for people to vote, not harder.
The thing about democracy is, the more people pay attention to the process, the more they internalize the promises made by the people they support.

My take is that Republicans don't want widespread participation because they don't want to be scrutinized by the people. They feed them one-liners about socialism, the deficit, illegal immigration, etc..., and as long as their voters are willing to repeat them and not question the inconsistencies of their leaders' positions, Republicans are fine. So, they will gain voters in the short-term, but their scumbaggery won't fool all these new voters all the time and may result in a greater rejection of the GOP in the future.
