Most ppl aren't even aware there are mid term elections
It would not be implementable in the US, just wondering what y'all think of the idea as a hypothetical since it can be a pretty controversial topic here. I'd guess support for keeping or removing is fairly evenly split here with a slight lean towards removal. Either way I hardly know anyone in support of it but then again I also don't know many people who take a strong interest in politics.I don't think madantory voting would solve anything. Society often produces more morons than smart people imo. In a huge country like the US, madantory voting would also incur huge amounts of waste funding wise, especially since a lot of people don't like to be political either and would rather not vote.
I'm not so sure GOP needs to go nuclear. What happens if they don't budge?
The filibuster means senate is gridlocked, how long would dems actually do that? No budget? Gov shutdown?
If this were a short term play I could see where it could work, but the term just started.
-You can go nuclear on a SCTUS pick and keep in place for regular bills.
-The GOP doesn't need to beat a filllibuster to past a budget this year. Plus the Density are generally against shutting down the government
I meant if Dems were to filibuster the SCOTUS nomination, then legislation freezes, no? that would include passing budget? May be mistaken on that.
In that sense, it wouldn't be Dems forcing the GOP to go nuclear, but the GOP forcing the dems to go that route.
Because the right wingers don't have too much to pick from the shelves when it comes to entertainment. Clint Eastwood, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, James Woods and Jon Voight. That's about it. They're pretty much forced to pick something liberal when it comes to arts and entertainment. Because they aren't capable of producing great art. Their art is stealing from the poor and destroying the planet. They're friggin Picassos when it comes to that. The Harry Potter books has always had a liberal bent to it. Don't understand how you can enjoy the books and be a Trump fan to begin with. There was even a politician in the books that was a bumbling idiot like Trump that was not painted in a positive light at all
Scott, a loyal Trump surrogate during the presidential campaign, said he would soon meet with “top gang thugs” who respected the president in order to discuss “lowering that body count.”
“I think that’s a great idea because Chicago is totally out of control,” the president responded.
people goin learn the hard way..
Short summary of what happened in Belgium today:
Trump adviser, climate denier and fossil fuel lobbyist Myron Ebell was a guest speaker at a meeting in Brussels organized by the EU party "Alliance of conservatives and reformers".
A few hundred protesters organized outside the venue to protest his unfounded and extremely regressive views on climate.
At the meeting, he gave the opening speechsaid
He did not receive any applause. A few attendants of the meeting were interviewed and didn't explicitly condemn his views but said climate change and negotiations are important and that they will continue to negatiate with all countries.
"The climate change movement is the greatest threat to freedom and progress."
"The climate movement comes out of a belief in two things; that government command and control is to be preferred over individuals choosing their own course in life, making their own decisions. And that experts (pronouncing experts with a tone of contempt) really should be in charge of everything."
The EU parliament debated Trump's travel ban (mostly referred to as travel ban here instead of muslim ban) amongst other things, condemning it across the board with the exception of Nigel Farage. He suggested the EU parliament should invite Trump and that the muslim ban is simply a continuation of previous Obama policies.
As he made those remarks, another parliament member held this up behind him
Both our national parliament and the Flemish (I live in Flanders) parliament debated the travel ban today. In both parliaments, condemnation of the travel ban was near unanimous. Our main conservative party, which is our largest party and holds the most seats in both parliaments also unanimously condemned the ban. Several members of our most conservative party spoke in support of it but it should be noted that they have long been marginalized for racist views and several members of said party have recently attended and spoke at a neo-nazi convention in Greece.
The debate focused mainly on how to respond to Trump. Most were in favor of a stronger response to Trump in condemning his actions from our top government officials. Minister-president Geert Bourgois (NVA member) in particular was criticized for responding to the travel ban with "it's arbitrary and in conflict with legal certainty". He stood by his comments, adding that he felt he was critical enough and is sufficient in demonstrating condemnation for Trump's actions.
Thought I was reading a The Onion article at the end
One supporter, Cleveland pastor Darrell Scott, told Mr. Trump that Chicago gang members had been in touch with him about possibly working with the Trump administration to reduce violence. Scott, a loyal Trump surrogate during the presidential campaign, said he would soon meet with “top gang thugs” who respected the president in order to discuss “lowering that body count.”
“I think that’s a great idea because Chicago is totally out of control,” the president responded. Of the gangs, he said, “if they’re not going to solve the problem... then we’re going to solve the problem for them.”
IDK how their going to incentivize "top gang thugs" to not kill as many people
I saw a report recently that showed Chicago isn't even a top 10 city when it comes to gun violence, it just became the poster child "gangs out of control"
It isn't like Farrakhan and the NOI haven't been out there for decades calling for peace and end to the violence... These people are something else man
These people dont give a **** about Chicago. It's nothing but a ruse to score political points. I'm sure nothing will come of it.
These dudes better not capitulate to these people.
They love bringing up Chicago, but many states have far more gun violence/death rates than Illinois. Is Trump going to invade Alaska and Montana with the feds as well? Most Southern and Midwestern states have higher gun mortality rates than Illinois.

who is this everyone he speaks of?
he said it, everyone repeated it.. then his people tried to claim it wasn't a "ban"

Everybody is arguing whether or not it is a BAN. Call it what you want, it is about keeping bad people (with bad intentions) out of country!
Iran agreed last year to buy 80 jetliners from Boeing Co. in a deal valued at $16.6 billion. Boeing said the deal has the potential to sustain thousands of U.S. jobs. Iraq also has a firm order to buy 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 18 Boeing 737s.
Boeing's $16.6 billion deal to sell Iran 80 737 and 777 aircraft will support nearly 10,000 jobs, with many tied to Boeing operations in the Puget Sound region.
