Rihanna & Matt's Mexican Hat Dance
Posted Jan 6th 2010 12:29AM by TMZ Staff

While on vacation in Mexico on Tuesday, Rihanna and her L.A. Dodger Matt Kemp followed Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson's example and drew more attention to themselves by wearing flashy getups on their heads.

Kemp showed his kinkier more playful side by adding a lucha libre mascara aka Mexican wrestling mask to his ensemble.

The couple that wears touristy sombreros together, stays together.
Luis Ayala Escapes Toughest Jam
Reliever Luis Ayala, one of the Dodger non-roster invitees to spring training, was the victim of a kidnapping attempt at his home in Sinaloa, Mexico, per the Associated Press. According to the report, Ayala and his family were unhurt after gunmen shot down their door to enter the house, but were scared off by the police. Ayala himself was found handcuffed once police arrived. Luckily Ayala and his family were unhurt.

That !$#$ ain't a good look anywhere in Mexico right now
Dodgers among the teams looking at Noah Lowry
January 6, 2010 | 4:35 pm

The Dodgers are among the 14 teams that requested medical records for free agent pitcher Noah Lowry, according to Lowry's agent, Damon Lapa.

Once considered among the top young left-handers in baseball, Lowry hasn't pitched in the majors in the last two seasons because of arm problems that first appeared in the summer of 2007. He underwent two surgeries in 2008, one in the spring on his forearm and another in the fall on his elbow. Lowry was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome last March, which led to him having a rib removed.

Lapa said the latest procedure "relieved every one of his symptoms."

"He's 100% healthy now," Lapa said.

Lowry has been throwing for eight or nine weeks and is now pitching off a mound. He will work out for interested teams in Arizona later this month, and Lapa said his client wouldn't field any contract offers before then.

Lowry, 29, has a career record of 40-31 with a 4.03 earned-run average. He led the Giants with 13 wins in 2005 and 14 in 2007.

Speaking of Kemp....

12/31/09 6:53 PM EST

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have opened discussions on a multiyear contract with Matt Kemp, but his agent said Kemp might prefer to go year to year.

"We've only talked about it a little bit, so who knows where it's going to go?" said former Dodgers pitcher Dave Stewart, who represents Kemp and pitcher Chad Billingsley.

"We've got to figure out if it even makes sense to do a multiyear. The club is looking for something, the player is looking for something. Sometimes it's difficult to find a meeting of the minds. In that case, we're fine doing it one year at a time."

Kemp is one of nine Dodgers eligible for arbitration this winter and one of five eligible for the first time in their careers. Traditionally, the Dodgers do not lock up their young players in multiyear deals, preferring to have the player prove his value each season until he reaches the free-agency criteria of six years service time......
Dodgers Sign Russ Ortiz And Michael Restovich
By Mike Axisa [January 9 at 8:53am CST]

The Dodgers have signed righty Russ Ortiz and outfielder Michael Restovich to minor league contracts with invitations to Spring Training, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick.

The 35-year-old Ortiz hasn't been an effective big leaguer since 2004, and even his minor league performance since then hasn't been anything special. The Dodgers do have some openings in the back of their rotation, so it stands to reason that Ortiz will compete for one of those spots.

Restovich, 31, has spent parts of six seasons in the big leagues, most recently with the Nationals in 2007. He's a career .239/.313/.377 hitter in the Majors, but a .285/.364/.501 hitter in the minors.

Russ Ortiz are we serious? This is what its coming down to, tryna fill our holes with minor league contracts crossing our fingers they're gonnacontribute something to this team.

The thought of another worthless ex-Giant on the squad irks me, next up: Noah Lowry.

Bank on it.
Dodgers sign Repko, avoid arbitration
Outfielder reportedly inks one-year deal worth $500,000
By Ed Eagle / MLB.com

01/10/10 12:30 PM EST

The Dodgers have agreed to terms with outfielder Jason Repko on a one-year deal worth $500,000, thus avoiding arbitration, according to a FOXSports.com report citing multiple sources.

http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/mlb/news/hot_stove/y2009/index.jspRepko, who will compete in Spring Training for a spot on the Opening Day roster as a fourth outfielder, appeared in just 10 games with the Dodgers last season, going hitless in five at-bats. In 110 games at Triple-A Albuquerque, the 29-year-old right-handed hitter batted .277 with 16 home runs, 47 RBIs and 24 stolen bases.

Repko was selected 37th overall in the 1999 First-Year Player Draft, and his professional career has been stalled by ankle and hamstring injuries. Since making his big league debut with Los Angeles in 2004, Repko has combined to hit .226 with 11 homers, 47 RBIs and 11 steals in 230 games.
Dodgers Sign Nick Green
By Tim Dierkes [January 11 at 1:25pm CST]

The Dodgers signed Nick Green to a minor league deal, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosental says Green would be Rafael Furcal's primary backup at shortstop.

Green, 31, hit .236/.303/.366 in 309 plate appearances for the Red Sox last year, logging 644.3 innings at short. His defense graded as a positive in that insufficient sample. Green had back surgery in November and was outrighted by the Sox shortly thereafter. The Rockies also showed interest this offseason.

Hate him all you want, but he is NOT an awful General Manager. Sure he has signed a few bad contracts. But he is the reason for the resurgence of baseball inLos Angeles. This is the team that had won 1 playoff game in the past 18 years prior to him arriving. ONE!! He is responsible for the Dodgers getting the likesManny Ramirez, Andre Ethier, Casey Blake, Takashi Saito and Joe Torre to name a few.

Yes you can throw in Jason Schmidt and Andruw Jones in there, but the Dodgers are now one of the better teams in baseball. The Dodgers hadnt done a thing foralmost 2 decades before he arrived, and now you have won the NL West in 3 out of 4 years that he has been around. Yet, he is an awful GM. You guys make melaugh sometimes.
