**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Me personally we could blow it up tomorrow and I don't think the FO could put together a legit rebuild.

Until ownership changes, we will find another old superstar and pay a ton of money while trotting out a flawed roster.

Crazy how bad everything went after 2020. And the Russ deal...yikes.

We only got two options:

1. Now that we're desperate, any potential trade will come with a tax, then we'll ultimately do nothing
2. We'll make a trade that does nothing more or less to improve our situation.

Start Kenecht to go all in on offense they said…

What do we need to get Jeanie to cancel Rob?

That's domino #1. (Because I doubt Jeanie sells)

JV for Gabe looks to be what will happen, if they trade for JV.
I don’t like the fit. But if you’re just trying to make sure you don’t have 15-20 disaster center minutes a game, could do much much worse like the options that exist now.

Which then leaves the Cam Johnson or DFS wrinkle. Won’t go after both if Gabe is gone in a separate trade.
Best guess is you move Rui. Easier to get DFS for Rui. Can do straight up with pick compensation attached.
Cam would require Rui, JHS, (one of Wood/Reddish/Hayes) and draft comp. Not a deal breaker just requires them to fill roster spots afterwards

If you do Rui for DFS straight up. Then you have JHS, Wood, Reddish, Max Lewis & Hayes and some draft comp to get a $6-10mil player in some role.

Stacked injury report going back to last year. There's the flawed roster.

Need to cut bait.

It’s that.

Plus the 7-12 guys are so insanely bad compared to deep teams that just one injury requires guys who shouldn’t play, play big minutes and drag everybody down with them.

Jeanie will never, ever sell.
I want it, but I want a lot of things that will never, ever happen.

She is not the business savvy competitor that her dad was.
(To any derps who want to use this opportunity to parade sexism: it was NOTHING to do with her ****ing genitals. Her brothers are also not the business savvy competitors that Jerry was.)

Once a person accepts that reality, then they see how useless all of these other conversations are.
"I have the problem: it's the coach!"
"No, turd. It's Lebron!"
"WHAT?! We just need to trade for that one guy!"
"No, dummies. We shouldn't have traded these other guys!"

Now, she doesn't play the games, so she's not the one that lost by 40 yesterday.

In her reign:
- 'Backstabbing & whispering' culture that Magic walked away from.
- Hired Pelinka as GM, with his only experience being a sports agent.
- Completely dismantled a championship team.

Every team has an identity.
Run & gun?
Solid defense?
84 3s a game?
Our identity is "No experience means they have no bad experience."
It's what our beloved Lakers are right now, and have been for a few years.

We're not going anywhere until we're more structured and healthy.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I need Magic and his group of investors to make an offer Jeanie can't refuse.

This franchise is gonna be stuck until a sale happens and that sucks.

Jeanie has to worry about the money more than her dad. She has to share profits with 5 siblings.

For example, the lifetime contract her dad gave Magic would be like giving someone $100M in today’s money. No way she would/could do that

She’s just about turning a profit enough to share with the family and still come out with a fat payout for herself and C List comic Jay Mohr each year

We’re ****ed

I actually like this as a solution.
Scratch that: I like this as a way to make the best of a larger problem.

"prevent the group from splintering further" does not sound good . I'm curious who the groups are? Starters vs bench?

I’m not trying to sound like a hater BUT what JJ just described is a coach’s meeting, a team meeting and meeting with individual players… do think it’s more of a story that the team need all this 20 games into the season, especially with the core of the roster having been here for multiple seasons.

JJ is a former media guy who has built relationships with current media guys over the years that the coverage of him is going to be biased and at least as of now they’ll paint him in a positive manner… which is going to shape a lot of the opinions of the general public.

In the beginning of the season when things looked and felt different in a good way the media credited the coach. Now that it’s all bad the blame has shifted to players and front office according to the media… nope, if you can congratulate then you can also hate lol let’s keep it consistent.

Think it’s just time to blow it up. We can’t do much with an incomplete roster and management. Jeanie is gonna lead us into mediocrity for a really really long time.
No sense blowing it up as long as you have Clutch on the payroll. Players see what we see aging superstar still taking the lion share of shots, not playing defense and getting paid CRAZY money. At least if you are going to a bad team you expect to get paid or the greenlight to take all the shots. With Bron there neither is going to happen, so you are just on the court as an able body getting him the ball and blamed in losses.

Maybe...

I guess if there's a team that's willing to give a haul of young players and/or picks for AD then you have to do it, but I don't really see a team that are a player like AD away from contending and have the assets to get a deal done.

Otherwise, no one is really trying to trade for a $50 million dollar declining star who may only have another season or two left in him.

Honestly I just look at it this way...
  • Contracts expiring this season: DLo, Wood, Cam, Hayes, Max Lewis (partial guarantee...probably waived)
  • Contracts expiring next season: Bron, Rui, Austin (probably opts out), Bronny (LMAO, partial guarantee...probably waived)
No need to rush into any rebuild, this team's situation will naturally evolve over time... just enjoy what you can while it lasts.

Evolving over time isn't the problem, what will you do to retool going forward. That has continued to be a failure by management, still chasing short term goals and messing up long term plans.
