Historically underrated NBA players.

How about Kenyon Martin, another dude with a career rebounding rate lower than Dirk, never here whispers about his toughness, or Rasheed Wallace and on Jason Kidd, I totally disagree, is he John Wall? No. But he def at least an above average athlete and is bigger and stronger than 90% of point guards. It's insulting to my intelligence and Jason Kidds talent to suggest that the only reason he gets board is because he is the only one trying. smiley: laugh

"Soft" is almost always just a intellectually lazy copout argument.

Plus if you just look at defensive rebounding and ignore offensive (Dirk shoots 3's so he has a harder time grabbing offensive rebounds.) Dirk has a higher rate than Luis Scola, Serge Ibaka, Anderson Varejoa, Mcdysse, Nazr Mohammed, and equal too Birdman, Drew Gooden, Kendrik Perkins.

Soooo...again I think there are for more logical explanations for Dirks lack of rebounds than "softness"

I agree, though; dude is crazy underrated. Talk about some of the greatest players of the 90s and watch how long it takes his name to come up... IF it comes up.

There are 2 guys I always think of in these "debates". Strickland is one and Terrell Brandon is the other.

In the early 90s it was hard for me to get basketball games - they were rare and only on premium cable channels so we used to pass tapes around. I remember getting a Trailblazers game - must have been about '92 - and just being amazed by the things Strickalnd was doing. I had never heard of him before then.

Same with Terrell Brandon - I was watching a Cavs game and was disappointed because Mark Price was injured and Brandon just blew me away.

Both could have been tremendous players but were probably hampered by playing behind someone better/more well known and just not being in the right situation.

What is this talk about Dirk being a horrible rebounder? He's not Andrea Bargnani. He's actually a pretty decent rebounder... Until the past few years he was averaging consistently between 8-10. Now he's doing everything for his team and he's old as well as unathletic.. You're just catering to a stereotype.

Dude was only 6'3 and 170 lbs. How he grabbed all those rebounds I'll never know. The closest to average a triple double after Oscar and Magic.

I've never watched Andrew Toney play, but I've read how good of a scorer he was. Unfortunately, he was injury prone, lasting only eight seasons (and only five of those seasons was he healthy).
