"The Big Bang: The Creation of the New WCW" Advert [April 2001]
Found on the back of WCW Magazine #72, this ad was the purposed plan by Eric Bischoff to reboot World Championship Wrestling under his control due to a partnership with Fusient Media Ventures. In fact, Fusient themselves actually announced their purchase of WCW from Turner Broadcasting System Inc. on January 11th, 2001 and even had Bischoff do interviews to promote this new era of WCW.
However, the entire deal was based on TBS holding a minority interest in WCW along with programming rights to air WCW shows on their network. In March of 2001, Jaime Kellner became Turner’s new chief executive and announced that wrestling had no place anywhere on his network. In one press release, Kellner killed the entire Fusient/Bischoff deal and devalued WCW to the point where Vince McMahon picked up the company for a paltry 2.2 million plus fees and legal costs.
Funnily enough, Eric Bischoff’s vision for his new WCW had the company being taken off the road in order to have all their shows shot in a venue that housed a steady stream of tourists. Las Vegas, Nevada and Orlando, Florida were both possible locations discussed and Bischoff intended for to rebuild their audience before taking WCW back on the road again. Even after it was announced that Vince McMahon had purchased WCW, there were slight rumors of Bischoff and Fusient talking with the Fox Network over a possible new project. Whatever that project was never came to be, but all of these concepts were used to launch Jeff Jarrett’s Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
