Wrestling Thread Mar 11-24 | 3/18 RAW - HHH Responds to Brock | Punk Still Has Taker's Urn

- It was noted by a WWE source how odd it feels having no WWE Champion at live events for the past month and a half now. At the same time, WWE officials are surprised and pleased with the recent success they have seen with live event attendance on the Road to WrestleMania 29.

- WWE Legend The Honky Tonk Man was scheduled to do a comedy show in Toronto last night but canceled, citing that he was called by WWE to appear at tonight’s RAW from Pittsburgh.

- As reported earlier, WWE announced on Friday’s SmackDown episode that Ryback, Randy Orton & Sheamus would take on The Shield at this year’s WrestleMania pay-per-view event. We also noted that Ryback will most likely be pulled from that match and replaced by The Big Show.

WWE.com may have spoiled that change as they have a photo that shows The Big Show in Ryback’s place in a promotional image for the bout.

- As noted earlier, Rey Mysterio has been dealing with knee issues for quite some time, and feared that he had torn the ACL in his good knee. Dr. James Andrews said he would be able to wrestle but not without the help of a special brace.

Dave Meltzer noted during the Wrestling Observer Radio show this past weekend that Mysterio is “officially” slated to return in June, but there is also the change that he may not return at all.

“The official company line on Rey Mysterio is that he will be back, hopefully, in June… after rehabbing the knee,” said Meltzer. “But he may not be back at all. And it’s not retirement, but there’s something going on… there was stuff going on that they were working on perhaps a release, but they want merchandising rights… but officially he’ll back in June.”

As of this writing, Mysterio is listed on the “events” page on WWE.com for the Monday Night Raw following WrestleMania 29 on April 8th from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ. Mysterio is also listed for the Raw WrestleMania Revenge Tour in the U.K. in April. This may simply be a case of the listings being outdated.

I think my dude Rey needs to hang it up. He's basically wrestling undertakers schedule now.

[COLOR=#red]It's going to be a typical Raw.

Most of it will suck.

You all will watch it anyway.

Well, I'm about 30,000 feet in the air right now and am posting from in flight wifi.  My work schedule has been crazy lately.  This is my third straight week flying to Michigan. However, this will be my last week in Michigan, and things will slightly slow down for me for the next month or two which will be nice considering WrestleMania is coming up.  I'll be able to focus more on the weekly thread as the past few weeks I've really only posted during Raw and not much else.

With me being in the air right now, I'll probably miss the start of Raw, but I should be settled into the hotel by about 8:30, so hopefully someone can catch me up.

Tonight for Raw:
  • HHH will respond to Brock Lesnar's and Paul Heyman's challenge of accepting the match without knowing the stipulation.  There was talk of an MMA Rules match, but that has since been dismissed.  The plan as of now is still for HHH to get his win back at WrestleMania as ridiculous as this may be.  Grantland posted it's rules of professional wrestling, and one of them was that HHH always wins in the end.  It looks like that rule will still be intact for Mania this year.  As bad as it was for Cena to beat Lesnar last year at Extreme Rules, at least Cena is your top star.  HHH is a once or twice a year at most performer in the twilight of his career.  Brock Lesnar just signed a MONSTER two year deal with very limited dates.  Lesnar has proven a huge PPV draw in each of his matches.  He's also slated to face The Rock at WrestleMania next year.  But despite all of this, the King of King's needs his win to satisfy his ego.  I'm not going to get too worked up yet because we're still three weeks from Mania, but expect a LONG rant from me is Lesnar loses.
  • CM Punk still has the urn.  At the house shows this weekend, they were hinting that the urn actually contains Paul Bearer's ashes.  We'll see if they actually go with that tonight.  Last week's segment with Punk and Taker was great, as it played off Bearer's death, but did it in a relatively classy way.
  • Last I heard, The Rock will not be at Raw tonight.  I'm pretty sure that's still the case, but it's possible to change.  They held Cena off last week's show with Rock not being there.  I expect Cena to be back on tonight's show regardless.
  • Like I said earlier, we're only three weeks from Mania, and much of the undercard is still undecided.  The undercard matches don't mean anything when it comes to selling the PPV, but it still makes the show seem much more important if there is a card in place with week's of build.  That's definitely not the case this year.
  • Wade Barrett (c) vs Chris Jericho vs miz for the Intercontinental Title.  Fandango may interfere costing Jericho the match to set up their potential program for Mania.  We'll probably also see Barrett vs miz at Mania.  Barrett can continue his losing streak.
  • On Smackdown, they announced it was The Shield vs Sheamus, Orton, and Ryback.  However, Mark Henry destroyed Ryback, seemingly setting their match back up for Mania.  That leaves the open spot on the face team for The Big Show.  As I've said before, I can't believe they're flip flopping him from heel to face again, but that's the way it looks like they're going.  I really hope The Shield gets the win at Mania, because it's not time for them to lose and any of the faces can easily take a loss.
  • The Swagger/Del Rio program is as good as dead to me.  It's turned into bad comedy.  Del Rio doesn't work in this "Born In Mexico, Made In America" role, and Swagger has no motivations to hate immigrants.  Zeb Colture is the only semi-bright spot, but it's clearly not clicking with the crowd.

I still have one ticket for WrestleMania and two tickets for the Hall of Fame.  All for retail.  If you're interested, let me know asap.  Otherwise I need to dump them on Stubhub.

That sucks. Who do you have cat sitting?
Had to miss a Vegas trip because I couldnt get anyone to watch my dog and didn't trust professionals
