WHAT'S MORE IMPRESSIVE LeBRON'S 52/TRIPLE DOUBLE OR KOBE'S 61 @ MSG

Thank you.

I mean, 20 years ago, I guarantee nobody gave two craps if Larry Bird had a triple double, and then Jordan followed him the next night with a triple double inthe same building with maybe a few more points.

Nobody appreciates anything these days. Everyone is so quick to take sides and relegate everything to instant history. Let it sink in and appreciate what thesetwo incredible athletes accomplished. One guy set an MSG scoring record, the other guy had the most points in a triple double since the merger. That's allanyone should care about.

oh well jkidd gets a lot of his rebound from long rebounds and balls that bounce his way, that doesn't diminish his triple doubles.
Like Kobe, LeBron finds Garden work fulfilling
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports 27 minutes ago

NEW YORK - As the clock was bleeding to 0:00, the final Knicks' shot bounced off the rim, into the air and sped swiftly toward the row of photographerson the baseline. The ball hung for a moment, just waiting on the hands of history. Out of nowhere, LeBron James - dehydrated and cramped, legs losing hops - made one final leapat Madison Square Garden and snatched his triple-double out of the sky. He crashed into the photographers, banged his head on a lense and clutched the ball, laughing and laughing and laughing.

"I never thought you could look at the box score and see somebody with 50 points and a triple-double," James marveled. "But it'shappened."

It hadn't happened since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did it 34 years ago, but in those final, frantic seconds, James had 52 points, 11 assists and needed that10th rebound to push past the boundaries, even within a beautiful basketball mind that sees the limitlessness of possibility. James would've chased thatrebound into the Hudson River to make sure he upstaged Kobe Bryant atthe Garden and delivered a genius performance that was a little Michael and Magic, a little Big O and Kareem.

"You saw every phase of my game tonight, the scoring, the rebounding, the assists," James said.

Mostly, LeBron reached up to the Garden marquee on 7th Avenue, and ripped down Kobe's name. James and Bryant are locked in a ferocious back-and-forth tobe the best player on the planet. They're chasing everything now - MVPs and championships, endorsements and popularity. As much as ever, they'rechasing the sport's standing as the game's truest heir to Michael Jordan.

So, James watched on television as Bryant obliterated the Garden scoring record with 61 points and everyone knew - just knew - James was hellbent on raisingthe ante. And he did. James beat Bryant. LeBron's night was bigger, better and bolder. James lives for the dramatic. He's the showman of hisgeneration. "The sad thing is that I'm sure LeBron said that it's no big deal to get 61 points," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said."I'll just get a triple-double. [Kobe] didn't do that."

As much as the Garden is still the Mecca of basketball, the Knicks still play the part of crash-test dummies for the NBA's royalty. Not even IsiahThomas has the indignity of surrendering back-to-back 50-point games on his tombstone, but these defenseless Knicks do now. The Boston Celtics' Paul Pierce is on deck Friday.

Only Michael Jordan and James have ever come into the Garden twice and dropped 50 points.

"It's an honor that you're in the same breath as Kareem and Mike," James said. "Two of the baddest guys that ever did this game, thatever played this game, that ever walked on the face of the Earth and carried a basketball."

Someday, James could surpass Jordan in every way, but he's still six titles behind him, still three behind Bryant. For James, he's closed the gap onKobe - maybe erased it - and this was a night when it was so easy to see the differences in disposition of these two stars. When Bryant scored his 61 onMonday, he was stone-faced sober. No joking, no laughs. That's how he lives, too.

All night, LeBron was gabbing and laughing and smiling. He fist-pumped with Spike Lee. He walked out of the final timeout playing air guitar to the music onthe public-address system.

"I think Kobe is much more focused than LeBron, much quieter," said a basketball executive who knows both well. "He doesn't party. Hedoesn't hang out. It isn't that LeBron doesn't approach the game in a high-end, professional way, but he's much more carefree and fun, muchmore of a showman. Off the court, he's joking and laughing. I think that, in part, each one wants to be a little like the other.

"LeBron has the ability to be a guy's guy, the life of the party. Kobe just doesn't have that."

When they were together at the Olympics in Beijing over the summer, the two politely tugging to make Team USA his own, those differences played out toteammates and coaches. When LeBron was planning team breakfasts, Kobe would be lifting alone in the weight room. With his 61 points, Kobe had just threeassists and no rebounds on Monday night. He almost looked like he was all alone out there. Nevertheless, there are lessons of seriousness of task that Jameshas taken from Bryant, lessons over two consecutive summers at his side. Nevertheless, LeBron never needed Kobe to teach him the importance of New York andMadison Square Garden.

Kobe has never flirted about coming to play here, as LeBron has about 2010, but both understand: Respect must be paid.

"I can't say that this is the same as any other road game," James said. "It's not, because it's the Mecca of basketball. LikeKobe said, this is the last building that's still alive. And it's just a different feeling when you come in this building."

Maybe it had never been as different as this week, when James touched down in Manhattan on Tuesday with the city still buzzing over Bryant's 61 points. The Super Bowl had ended, and Bryant had turned America's consciousness toward him within the first 24 hours of most of America awakening to the NBAseason. LeBron refused to let it last on Wednesday, and David Stern's wildest dreams had played out within 48 magnificent hours at the Garden. If theKnicks can't make New York matter again, Kobe and LeBron had come to town to validate the greatness of the Garden all over again.

Yes, James and Bryant chase everything together now - maybe mostly immortality - and it turns out these past two days have been a prelude to LeBron and Kobemeeting over the weekend in Cleveland. "It'll be a good show on Sunday in Cleveland," James said late Wednesday.

LeBron James had reached high in Madison Square Garden, and snatched that final rebound, snatched Kobe Bryant's name off the marquee lights, andfinally, legs aching, disappeared into a New York night.

In the other thread where Kobe fans were going on a rampage and felt confident enough to make any claim about Kobe because he had a big night, I mentioned hisperformance at MSG last year as a reason why I think LeBron is the better overall player. He had 50, 8 & 10 that game - which was a better overall gamethan Kobe's 61, 0 & 3 as well. And now he makes a statement with this game and has an even better one, confirming why he's the better overallplayer & putting another nail in the coffin for other MVP contenders this year.

at the insecurity of Kobe fans in this thread.

They be maaaaad........

How is it that you go 37 minutes and don't get any rebounds and only have 3 assists? You're just out to score. Lebron is clearly the better team player. So quit all this talk aboutLebron forced it...and Kobe didn't? There is no such thing as a natural unforced scoring performance when you score over 40 period. You would think I'ma Lebron fan or a Cavs fan, which I am not. I just dislike greatly the delusional Kobe fans, they seem to lose al reason when presenting their garbagearguments.

once again, our offense is not like clevelands offense in which they just put the ball in lebron's hands and let him create a shot for himself or for histeammates
we run the triangle, in which a pass that kobe makes may lead to another pass that leads to a shot. so kobe may not get the assist but his pass allowed anotherassist to happen.
clearly kobe wasnt just out to score because if he was then we would have lost and gasol wouldnt have gotten his 30+ points since kobe would have taken most ofthe teams' shots

You know Lebron wants to 1 up Kobe from the get-go.. dude had the ball 95% of the time the whole game.. I've seen at least 3 or 4 possession where lebronwas the only one moving on the court
laugh.gif
.. it was boring at times to be honest ..great performance , nonetheless..

But i felt like Kobe's 61 has more history defining moment feel to it.. Standing O, Mvp chants (although most of them are Lakers fans) and to do it in MSGis just
pimp.gif
..

Its funny that I havent heard much about that dislocated ring finger....just wait til KB has a bad game then tehy'll bring it up!

LBJs triple double plus 52pts was a better performance hands down! Lebron scored 52 but he was responsible for 75-80pts including assist he made! Nocomparison........

roll.gif
52 11 and 11>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> over ballhogging your way to 61 points. Rip Hamiltons 51 was more impressive thanKobe's fluke $@! performance.

Hey I'm a Kobe fan and I praise Lebron for this feat.

Heres my problem, Homers like Xtapolapacetl and prettyplayer act like Kobe can't come close to this.

Remember two years ago against Houston when Kobe had 53, maybe 12 boards and 9 dimes but we know why he didn't have 11 dimes.....

Kwame Brown missed two wide open layups.

Lebron is great Xtapolapacetl and prettyplayer, I said it and been believing it for sometime. But it don't take me to bag on Lebron to make me believe Kobeis good.

Why you bag on Kobe to make you feel Lebron is great? Can't he be great in his own right?

Kobe shot 31 times... Lebron shot 2 more shot attempts than Kobe but Kobe still had the upper hand in total points. Offensively Kobe had the better game but,Lebron had the best overall game.

yea its obvious james tried extra hard to get those 2 rebounds in the end but cmon! have you TRIED to get a triple dub in a pick up game?! $#%$ aint easy lol.im a diehard laker/kobe fan but triple dub while scoring 50+ shouldnt be downplayed. both performances are amazing and appreciated. CANT WAIT FOR SUNDAY

Wow 12 pages deep when the answer is simple Lebron's performance was a MORE COMPLETE performance.

Kobe had a single dimension to his game... didn't get anyone else off and didn't even grab 1 rebound... how the heezy do you play a full game and don't grab 1 board? I didn't even realize he had no rebound until lastnight when I looked it over...

What if Kobe got to play 6 more minutes of game time?

Why did he make two more shots, in two fewer shots?

Why did Lebron dive for that rebound with less then 2 seconds left?

Who cares?
laugh.gif

Great games by both. I apologize for Kobe that he didn't get any rebounds. Next time he gets 11 rebounds and everyone just dismisses the feat, Iwon't worry too much about it.

As a performance that had me entertained as I watched the game. Kobe. Lebrons game was more complete but I have more fun watching Kobe do his stuff thanLebron. It's prob because I expect Lebron to do it every time out since he is so much bigger and quicker than everyone else. Kobe on the other hand ispretty equal to a good chunk of players. But the dude is just so skilled that it doesn't matter. Plus, I love watching him pull up from 27 and just bury a3. No1 does that really.

They're not just worse in the sense that there's more of them. Have you seen any posts/threads comparing Bron's performance to MJ's 55?Certainly not to the extent as there was after Kobe's 61, despite the fact that 52, 10 & 11 > 61, 0 & 3. At least LeBron fans don't comparehim to Jordan whenever he has a huge game.

Sorry man 61-0-3-0 no steals < 52-10-11-2 what about blocked shots anyone got that number cuz im sure Kobe probablly goose egged that to...and i like howeveryone says Lebron leaped for the last board like Kobe wasnt pushing it hard in the 4th knowing he could pass MJ...the whole 4h was give it to Kobe and lethim score...LBJ all around better player...hands down.....

smh.gif
@ this still going, thought sure it would be locked. I see XtraLebronFan is on his usual rampage

Anyway, Bron had a better overall game, but both performances should be appreciated, not diminished. The only thing in this case that should be criticized isthe pathetic New York Knicks that allow the 2 best players in the world to come in and doo doo on the sacred Madison Square Garden.
laugh.gif

Here's some numbers for both Kobe and Bron from their past two games, coincidentally both against the Raptors and Knicks

Kobe Bryant: 97 points on 32-59 shooting (54%) 7-14 3pts (50%) 26-28 FTs (93%) 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 2 turnovers in 75 total minutes

LeBron James: 85 points on 26-53 shooting (49%) 4-12 3pts (33%) 29-32 FTs (91%) 17 rebounds, 15 assists, 1 steal, 4 blocks, 6 turnovers in 82 total minutes

Really, does it make any sense to be arguing like little girls when you have two guys putting on the kind of show that these two are, just get over yourfanboyism and recognize that this is a special time for the NBA, 2 guys like this don't come around everyday. I think it's great that they may behaving this subliminal rivalry to try and 1-up each other and it should be great on Sunday and I can only hope that they meet in the Finals for the ultimateprize. In the meanwhile, Kobe/Bron ultrafans, please cool it.
