As someone who has seen probably 85 percent of the games DJ's has ever played in the NBA, and who acknowledges that he's light years better than I ever thought he would be, I feel he's become a bit overrated. There are certain things he does very well, like finish at the rim, rebound, hedge on pick-and-rolls and get blocks coming from the weak side. But he's pretty average as an on-ball defender and we all know about his offensive limitations. The good does not always outweigh the bad.
Great as DJ's numbers are, I still feel like he could be replaced by another serviceable center and there wouldn't be much drop off for the Clippers, provided all the other players stayed the same.
Don't get me wrong - I'm glad we have him. But I wasn't going to be heartbroken if he wound up somewhere else last Summer.
