Vardy turning down Arsenal, Wenger gotta be feeling good about that
@Squawka: Jamie Vardy has now gone 697 minutes of Premier League action without having a single shot on target.
noIs Lucas Perez not a world class striker?
I think I saw it was a $8m transfer fee@SoccerInsider Atlanta United buys Paraguayan MF Miguel Almiron, 22, from Argentine club Lanus. Multimillion dollar transfer. multiyear contract, young DP
No. Another placeholder imo. Better than what we have, but not the quality we NEED. I'm a fan of Bacca too, don't get me wrong, but he's not a clear step above Giroud or Perez (from what I've seen). So y'all think Bacca can be the right fit?

Basically traded a peak form ADM for James because of a great WC
They did the same for Ozil after the 2010 WC, sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.
They didn't get rid of Kaka or Ron to make way for him though unlike ADM. Dude was arguably their best player during that Decima run
The End: Cosmos terminate all player contracts
by DAVE MARTINEZ
The New York Cosmos are preparing for the end — and this may be the most definitive proof of that statement to date.
Cosmos players received termination letters on Monday, assuring that the Cosmos will not be taking the field in 2017.
Or ever again.
Players will be paid through the month of November and have been promised to be paid their bonus money for the year. However, no player will be paid for December or for the remainder of their contract — no matter the length of their current deals.
Sources continue to tell EoS that Seamus O’Brien is looking for potential investors to take over the club. That search has included groups in Asia, Europe and a group of potential New York based investors. Interestingly enough, several sources also tell us Seamus O’Brien could be looking to offload his shares in the team as well. O’Brien, the Chairman of the team’s current ownership which includes Saudi outfit Sela Sports, bought the team name in 2012 from then-owner Paul Kemsley. O’Brien has been the public face of the ownership group since its reboot in 2013 and was directly involved in shaping the club’s mission, which included an apparent 10 year plan to reach the “top” of the American soccer pyramid.
Meanwhile, team staff and front office continue on their second week of furloughs, which will now likely become a mass layoff for the organization. Many office staff are now bracing for their third consecutive billing cycle without pay, equating to nearly six weeks of unpaid wages.
The Cosmos and the NASL are expected to make an official announcement on their futures following this week’s USSF Board of Governors meeting in Manhattan on Tuesday.
Atlanta United closing in on young trio from Newell’s Old Boys

Three young players could be headed to join Tata Martino
While the headlines are discussing Atlanta United’s major signing of Miguel Almirón, the club is also working to strengthen its depth with young players from Tata Martino’s beloved Newell’s Old Boys.
We previously discussed Milton Valenzuela and Maximiliano Pollachi. Valenzuela is an 18-year-old left back who has cracked into the first team at Newell’s this year. Valenzuela is a 21-year-old center back who was in the mix as a young player when Martino managed the squad in 2013 prior to leaving for Barcelona.
Joaquin Torres is a 19-year-old attacking central midfielder. He joined Newell’s when he was twelve years old after three trials against other talented young players at his age. He is small, fast, and has scored goals with the junior teams of the club.
These additions would be loans, with Atlanta United having an option to buy the players’ rights if they choose. There is another player, 21-year-old Franco Escobar, that Martino likes but Newell’s does not want to let him leave.
With about six weeks between now and the beginning of training camp, Tata Martino and Atlanta United are very busy in building their inaugural squad.
Source: NASL Down to Four Teams, Future Bleak
by BRIAN QUARSTAD ON 5 DECEMBER 2016
FiftyFive. One has learned that the Cosmos have ceased operations and the NASL is now down to only four teams. A source with information of the situation said it “appears that the NASL is officially dead.” It’s expected that those four teams will either go dark or make the move (subject to full vetting by USL and its owners) by the end of the week, if not the end of the USSF Board meeting vote on Tuesday.
The four teams are believed to be Rayo OKC, Fort Lauderdale, New York, and FC Edmonton. This assortment would have little to gain from negotiating with the USL. It’s expected that FC Edmonton will join the prospective Canadian Premier League in 2018, which the other three teams have major questions about their immediate futures.
With the USSF board meeting on Tuesday and the USL AGM meeting later this week, things are quickly coming to a head and we should know within a few days how the 2017 scenario will shake out. The source also said there is “behind the scenes pressure being applied by USSF to maintain one D2 league, be it NASL or USL so that the official story is D2 never went dark.”
How We Got Here
Over the weekend, Brian Straus of Sports Illustrated published a detailed piece on what is happening behind the scenes and the scenarios that could play out this week with the future of the NASL and USL in lower division soccer.
Michael Lewis of Big Apple Soccer reported on Sunday that the Cosmos had “ceased operations.” He also said a group had been in negotiations with a New York group to purchase the team. There seems to be some speculation that those interested in the Cosmos may want it for the name only.
Our own Jeff Rueter reported on Twitter that the Cosmos have lost over $30 million since they came into the league in the fall season of 2012.
This move comes at a time where several other clubs are looking to the future. WRAL Sports Fan’s Neil Morris reported that Carolina RailHawks’ owner Steve Malik was set for some major news on Tuesday. The club will be changing their name to North Carolina FC. This rebranding includes a new crest and setting their sights on MLS. -
A Growing USL
The source also said that USL is riding a fine balance of growing the league with established teams that come from the NASL and keeping harmony with the current league teams that have established a good chemistry. They risk bringing in certain NASL owners that may flock to USL out of survival, not because they wanted to join the league.
If the USSF gives USL the sanctioning to run the second division in the US, it will be a busy week for the United Soccer League, who normally have tentative schedules ready for their clubs at their AGM. Until decisions are made, scheduling is impossible for their new second division and questions still remain as to who will make up their third division teams. USL has stated in the past that some of the attractive features that draw in new investors to their league is the number of teams (now 31) and regionalized play to keep expenses down. But clearly, as the organization moves back to claim the second division, not all teams will be able or want to play in its second tier.

I know the UA stuff (football and in general) isn't really a hit to most, but the gear UA had been churning out for Spurs had started to grow on me.As weak as Nike has been lately, they're still an upgrade from UA.and wtf the Nike, Tottenham partnership is looking final???
