The Ultimate Soccer Thread 2010-2011 VOL. Premier league, La Liga, Serie A & Bundesliga

Games such as this are why Fabregas shouldn't be considered a leader or a captain by his teammates, the Arsenal supporters, anyone. I thought that Denilson had it right when he said it, and matches like this simply underscore the point.

Maybe he's not fully fit, maybe he's got one eye on the Nou Camp next year, but whatever it is, Fabregas has been conspicuously absent from damn near every important game this season.

And that back-heel...

Never would've expected such careless play from him, but that's Arsenal for you: mentally fragile and giving away stupid, careless goals.

Same %@%%, different match.

It's Wilshere's team next year, no doubt about it.

Wow, Fabregas wasn't a leader or strong captain in the first leg just weeks ago at Emirates? He was willing the team to comeback from a 1-0 deficit, pumping up the crowd before every set-piece and constantly encouraging teammates. Have you all forgotten the clutch PK he hit last year in the CL? The back heel was absolutely terrible decision-making but you guys can't be serious challenging his loyalty to Arsenal. If Fabregas wanted to leave for Camp Nou he would have done so easily in the summer window especially after the monumental WC victory. Pique and Puyol were practically begging the man to join Barca and yet he stuck with the Gunners.
I do question his fitness but given the high stakes one would think he'd be MORE criticized for sitting out and "quitting" on his team rather than play through the injury. I think he simply tried to do too much given the pressure and personal investment into the match against his Spanish teammates. Fabregas has had a mediocre season given the high standard we've come to expect, but no one can disregard his body of work at only 23 years-old. Stop putting so much value into the present term, I bet everyone changes their mind if Cesc can lead Arsenal to a FA Cup victory or PL crown.

Prurient, just to make a correction Barcelona can no longer afford Fabregas. Real Madrid and Chelsea are the two favorites going into this summer.

Oh and please blame Wenger for being so cheap and unwilling to purchase Lloris and Sakho sooner. Even casual soccer fans know Arsenal has a weakness at GK and CB. Szczeny has played well but in all fairness Lloris WOULD NOT have made that gaffe in the Carling Cup Final. Sakho would be the second best CB on the squad instantly after Vermaelen.

Regarding the first leg, I don't think he led the team at all.  To me, Wilshere was the more dominant, vocal, and active leader on the pitch.

And I'm not questioning his performance last year, only this.  I'm not even questioning his loyalty to the club.  But I don't believe it's a stretch to say that his performance this season has been, on the regular, far below what he's shown in the past, and one potential reason is that he may be distracted by an impending transfer during the Summer (didn't know about the Barca financial situation, thanks for the info).  Barca is extremely difficult to play against, no doubt, but I noticed Rosicky on the pitch more than I noticed Fabregas last night (though not for any of the right reasons).

And it's been that way in plenty of big matches this year.  That could be due to a variety of things, but something is different.  I'm in no way blaming the loss squarely upon him, but you just expect your "captain" to put himself about the pitch a bit more, be more visible, look more...  interested.

Regarding his not leaving the Emirates this summer, wasn't that more due to Wenger refusing to sell him?  I mean, kudos to him for not whining like a little girl about it like so many other players have done, but I believe he would've gladly gone to Barca had Arsenal let him.

Anyone else attending any of the Gold Cup games?..

Just bought my tickets to go see chicharito play again, 50 bucks for 18th row lower level tickets..$@%*%*$ great deal..

Also, there is apparently an American in one of the Barcelona's academy teams.

I am. Going to the Guatemala vs Hondurasgame. If guatemala advances to play mexico in Houson i'll go to that one too. If guatemala takes second in theirgroup they'll play costa rica and if they take first they'll play canada or panama. I think a showdown vs mexico is very likely.

I want another repeat of this:

After a day to think about and rewatching parts of the match I think I maybe was a little too harsh on the team last night and Trunks had some good points. I still think that our first half tactics did not set up us for a good result and in some ways we were lucky to be only down a goal at the half, but against Barca at home when they had to play an attacking style trying to decide the game in the last half hour may not have been the worst idea but we will never know. I think this is a good summary

http://www.dailymail.co.u...r-Barcelona-masters.html

Barca was the better side. Arsenal gave itself a chance but the ref took that chance away. I think this may be the real point - at the end of the day, Barca and Arsenal are similar clubs with similar philosophies - Barca just executes its strategy better. And they have a bit of luck that all of these players came together at the same time.

Yeah it was reported yesterday that Cesc injured himself around the 15th minute but opted out to stay, don't know why he would do that. I guess it was a lose lose situation for him either way he would be labeled a Barca player in the wrong jersey.

I think Arsenal are capable of winning the league with there current squad it just seems to me that they have no heart or should I say balls, The only one being Jack.. But yeah as much as I love Cesc I wouldn't be worried if we sold him this summer I'm more than confident with Nasri.

On players that I think are leaving this summer | Diaby, Rosicky, Eboue, Cesc(If Barca decides to pay what he's worth) Bendtner, Chamakh doesn't seem to be about the PL life, Vela (even though I think he could be great, Suarez like) RvP isn't getting any younger. Anyways I don't even know why I made this list really.
