The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Won’t be buying the new console until my back log is complete

Me waiting until I clear my backlog to pick up the PS5:

For people expecting 60fps games across the board on PS5, it won't happen.
Developers will choose what they want to prioritize and for certain games, that will always be graphics.

I can't think of any fighting game this gen that isn't 60fps and I'll expect that to continue next gen but I won't hold my breath for the next Naughty Dog game to be 60fps but it sure will look good.
However, if PS5 is backwards compatible, I expect there to be a boost mode like on the PS4 Pro for PS4 games.

How much of an improvement can they really make with the next gen though?

This is the first time in my life where i sat and realized that I dont need a next gen console.
Better graphics, better resolution, better HDR implementation.

Best of all though, better AI and better VR.

I don't think I'll get PS5 day 1 though.

Name changes coming to PS4. It’ll be free the first time and $10 afterwards, $5 for PS+ users. It says it’ll be from the PS4 so I’m curious to see how that will affect PS3/Vita games, videos, trophies etc.

What will people complain about now, I wonder.

I'm fine with mine as well.

Yeah that 4K/60 FPS across the board isn't exactly guaranteed and unnecessary for some games (turn based). With games getting more detailed and immersive that 60fps target gets more elusive plus you have some 8K TVs (gimmicky at this point) hitting the market so there might be some onus to offer 8K support and keep the frame rate at 30fps.

HDDs will get larger but again SSD will not be bundled option - the cost is still quite prohibitive even for 500GB. 1.5~2TB hard drives are significantly cheaper so that will grow and maybe they'll offer the Hybrid drives?

PS5 might be able to do Ray Tracing lighting like in the movies. Since the new generation of graphics cards this year are able to do it now...

Crysis 3 maxed out at just 1080 looks better than pretty much 98% of this gen
This whole resolution thing is cool and all but like... Focus on maxing the damn games first please. Then try for like 2k

I would appreciate a PS5 with backward compatibility to allow me to carry on my PS4 backlog while I wait for the next gen games to drop.

Definitely cop a PS5 at launch if this were the case.

Sounds about right...........that is enough time for GTX 1080s/RX Vega 64 to drop in price in order to justify an affordable PS5 with that particular amount of graphical power in it.

bigjny88 bigjny88 Yeah man, being console hardware they have to ensure that the CPU/GPU or APU are mature enough to not have any problems down the road.

PS5 should let us play PS1-5 games.

They need to make it up to us for dropping the ball on backwards compatibility with PS3 and PS4.

Just gotta hope Microsoft starts this generation with a size-able lead.

Just got the Uncharted PS4 off some guy on letgo who just had a newborn for $150 controller, cords. tekken 7, monster hunter world and COD WW2 included. this thing is just dusty but after I wiped it off it already looked better. gotta jet down to the store and get Uncharted and NBA2k and a 2 terabyte drive. and of course pre order the reason I even got this thing RDR2

but man oh man, I can't wait to open this baby up, thoroughly clean it out, may check the thermal paste situation and fix that.
Might not even game tonight. I'm legit one of those people that loves buying stuff, taking it a part, cleaning it and putting it all back together

How much of a difference in power would it be (ps5) compared to what the PS4 has?

Wouldnt mind getting just "Bad Religion" but I have no urgent desire to change mine.
I remember when making my ID, Sony wouldn't even allow for you to use spaces. I just wanted to take the underscores out of my name but I'm not losing any of my trophy data unless it's below 10%

No way it takes that long to go on sale. 20 is a stretch I'll admit. But it'll drop to at least 40-45 way before then.
I don’t know. Didn’t it take GTA almost 3 years to drop in price? RDR could do the same
Edit: actually I just checked and it’s still $50-60 unless you catch it on sale. Only steam has it for cheap at $29.99
