The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Finally went ahead and beat DS3. I am on my 2nd playthrough now.

First game imma platinum :hat
Good stuff. How's NG+ so far?

I'm gonna have to summon you for Aldrich and Yhorm. I get Aldrich down to about 25% and I didn't even put a dent in Yhorm's HP bar :x

Put me on that farming spot tho 8o

You can farm Drakeblood Knight or Havel the Rock at Dragon-kin Mausoleum. Equip shield of want, covetous silver serpent ring, symbol of avarice and mendicant's staff. You''ll get 9504 per kill.

so like I was saying, the onion bro. If you save him in every instance, he'll help with yhorm and then he'll give you all his armor but I'm assuming you ran into Patches and he killed him without you knowing

Yeah I didn't want to use a guide so I sure I failed majority of the quest lines. I'll use a guide for NG+ :lol

Here's my thoughts on playing FFXV. no spoilers in it so if any of y'all wanna read it feel free to

I've never beaten a Final Fantasy game before but this game did impress me despite some glaring issues it has. everything from the music and graphics were top notch. If there was anything i knew SE would do right would, it would be the music and graphics. The whole world in the game is really well designed and i loved listening to the music in the game especially the battle themes those were some of my favorites. its nice that they also let you listen to other soundtracks of past FF games when you buy them at stores too. it makes sitting in the car more enjoyable lol.

I know many weren't feeling the combat too much but i liked the flow of it. the wait mode thing is kinda weird and magic system was weak too. i hated having to craft it constantly because it just took me out of the experience a lot. the dodging system is kinda weird as well, not the biggest fan of it and while the combat system was good it does get very hectic when fighting multiple enemies and keeping track of whats going on especially in tight areas but i did like the warp strikes and link strikes with your friends. i was never the biggest fan of turn based games which is why i never really got into the FF series but loved KH combat despite its own flaws. I'd like to see what SE is able to do in the next FF game if they decide to continue in this direction for the combat system.

My biggest gripe with the game was just how terrible the storytelling was. the pacing, tone, and how it is presented is just one huge mess imo. the biggest problem is because of two reasons. 1) the game doesnt show you many things that happens but just tells you instead which is a huge problem. I hate how some things just happen in the game off screen and I'm supposed to just say "oh okay" and go along with it. i want the game to SHOW ME. 2) The game expects you to know the background info on whats going on in the game which is pretty annoying because it doesnt explain anything so you have to watch the Brotherhood anime and the Kingslaive film to have a full grasp because the game doesnt tell you much. And even then the game does a bad job of presenting itself.

The game really suffers toward the end though. literally the last few chapters of the game are just so short and linear that they take a lot of enjoyment out of everything that the game has tried leading up. Chapter 13 in the game has got to be one of the worst things i have played this entire year with how boring and repetitive it all was. It was really a chore to go through and i struggled to play go through with it. the villain wasn't set up all that well either which was another problem with the game. the plot twists or reveals they have weren't all that great either and i didnt care all that much. i just had so many questions in the end but at lest the final chapter does go out on a high note. There is a great story in all of this mess which is why it bothers me so much but the direction for the story was really awful tho.

But the game really nails the friendship between Noctis and his friends tho. I genuinely cared for all of them and found them all to be interesting. The feeling of a big road trip between them is really well done with running around with them, driving, camping, and riding on chocobos. really good stuff that did make playing the game in the end feel worth it just to see what happens to them.

Another thing that i didnt like in the game was the overall boring and repetitive nature of the side missions. they were all very boring without adding much depth to the world besides slaying some monsters here and there and fetching items for people. but i will say that going around and doing the dungeons are definitely fun tho. i havent played all of them yet but so far i've really enjoyed them so far. The Witcher 3 really spoiled me in how amazing well they excelled in making all the side missions feel important in the game. I hope SE takes some notes from them in the future for their next titles if they try to make it even more open world than FFXV.

Overall despite my gripes with the story and side missions i did enjoy the game a lot. the game's charm really left a big impression and won me over in the end. I'm happy to finally have the game released and be able to play it at long last. Now i gotta find the time to try and play the other FF games

I agree with just about all of this. Especially with the hunts smh. Staking those would save so much time. I've beaten the game and I'm 100+ hours in. FFXV is a fantastic game that is poorly executed at times. It's easily one of the most beautiful game worlds I've ever played in. The diversity of the areas and terrains are simply amazing. The comradery and feeling of being on a road trip with your boys is expertly executed. The interplay of dialog between the characters really ties you to them. But as you mentioned the fragmented nature of the overall story and the rushed linear ending are sadly not as good as everything you experience earlier. Game probably could've used more development time amazingly enough lol. They took forever but needed forever and a day.

Personally, I really like the battle system and don't think turn based would work well at all in this type of game. Once you master dodging, warping, countering and blindside attacks it becomes way more fun. It feels less like poking a monster and more like getting into a rumble with your boys. Although the camera can be very frustrating, at times being too close or at a poor angle. Fighting in the trees or bushes becomes annoying as hell. As for the magic, I see what they were trying to do but it just becomes tedious. Making your own spells isn't fun but the spells themselves and the added effects are fantastic. Oh and as good as the summons look they kinda flubbed that too. Not being able to choose which summons show up and when is bleh. I've gotten Ramuh dozens of times but Titan and Leviathan only like once or twice.

Overall I'm very happy with the return of Final Fantasy. Glad to know they can still make a great game. Just slightly disappointed that this game could've been a 9.5 for me but ends up more like an 8.5.

Knowing what you know now, would you rather FF XV be delayed for another year or two? I would have preferred a better told story and a longer story. Quite a few chapters were like one mission and it was over. I'm glad it came out and was good but I would have definitely been ok with a delay.

Absolutely. If they came out and said right now the story is 20-25hrs long, but if you give us another 2 years we will double or triple it and toss a few demos here and there I could have accepted that. Dare I say hey could have released in episodic form ala 7R to capture the full scale of what they were going for. It's obvious they cut the game due to constraints, the game file is huge even with everything that is missing. The game is too good to be so short, they nailed it with the combat and drawing you into the main 4 characters. My only gripe is the lack of diversity in the magic system, no white, green or blue magic wtf.
The game goes downhill after altissia, not because of the linearity, but due to the fact the game just flys though that whole timeframe. 1 somewhat dungeon with a incomplete boss fight, the quick fight at shiva, and the garbage that was chapter 13. World of Ruin could have been epic if they actually let you play through it.

after beating the game i can say that i would've loved for them to delay the game for the sake of expanding upon the story. the game could've been soon much better had the story lived up to the rest of the game. it could really just use some more cutscenes in key places to develop characters important to the story

thanks man and i def agree about the summons. i only used them 2 times in the story when i was prompted to so i didnt notice that you couldn't choose them

Magic looks so good but is just as trash as it was in FF VIII :lol

I hope they use similar effects with the magic in FF VIIR. If you use Ice, the enemy freezes or maybe has some icicles on him :lol

Yeah. Hindsight is 20/20 though. We waited a really long time for this game. I understand why now though. The scope and depth of what they tried to create visually and story wise is crazy. Getting from one end of the map to the other really feels like a damn road trip lol.

And random, but one of my favorite things in this game is Prompto humming the victory tune :hat They get the little things so right in this game.

Yeah the shock, burn and freeze effects on the characters and enemies is top notch.

Man. I don't even wanna play it now :lol
Nah it's definitely still a must play.

It's still a great game bro. The problem is, as great as the game is, you can still see it's shortcomings. You can see what SE wanted to do with it but due to time constraints, they had to go ahead and release it.

Im fine with the game they released, as long as they learn from what worked and didn't work going forward.
