The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Maybe O'Malley trying to leverage the potential of boxing into a more lucrative deal with the UFC, probably won't work but I could see him trying to get a new deal before his next fight.

BW really been turned on its head now, O'Malley likely fights Chito next I'd gather. Will be interesting to see where Cory, Merab, Cejudo, Umar and Aljo (if he stays at BW) fall into place. If Aljo does move up they probably still make Merab fight a couple more times before he sniffs a shot. Sean mentioning several possibilities and yea Merab never comes up.

omalley can't be calling shots like that. He's not as charismatic as conor and conor actually accepts his losses.

Plus at the time conor was both featherweight and lightweight champ.

Wow, judge really fast tracking things. Will be a jury trial next spring if the court doesn't take up the UFCs appeal.

Jury trial is the last thing the UFC wanted for this suit. It'll definitely shake things up and could force big changes to the entire industry.

Cliffnotes? Is this the case that Cung Lee started? I'm getting confused with what the UFC is facing exactly

We talking more pay for fighters finally?

I posted this last week. 10 minute synopsis. It is definitely the class action Cung Lee started.

https://www.ufcclassaction.com/

In December 2014, a group of current and former MMA fighters filed a Class Action lawsuit against the Ultimate Fighting Championship (the “UFC”), and its parent company Zuffa, LLC. The Class Representatives for this lawsuit include Cung Le, Nathan Quarry, Jon Fitch, Brandon Vera, Luis Javier Vazquez, and Kyle Kingsbury. The Class Representatives claim that the UFC used improper strategies to dominate the market for MMA fighter services, allowing it to pay its MMA fighters less than half as much as they otherwise would have received. The fighters also claim that the UFC violated the antitrust laws to the detriment of all MMA fighters. These Class Representatives filed the lawsuit not only for themselves but also seek to represent about 1,200 other current and former UFC fighters. One of their goals is to recover money for all 1,200 fighters. Another goal is to force the UFC to change the way it does business

John Nash had a good podcast last week.

This could change the MMA game once the case goes to trial.

Yeah the Cung Lee case. Basically the judge looked over the case and pointed out that the UFC is truly a monopoly and that they hold and maintain sole power not by their "great promotion skills (UFC stated this)" but because of dirty practices and unfair contracts.

Well it's a billion dollar suit so the UFC would take a hit financially. The biggest change would be in their contracts which would ultimately give the fighters more power to test free agency, which leads to more money.

If they were to settle the judge can rule on injunctive relief, where the main change would be to the contracts. For example, instead of the 5 yesr max w/6 month extensions for declining fights it could change to 2 year max w/no extensions.

If it were to go to trial, it would be more damaging on the UFC where they would be forced to change a lot of their business practices. The evidence that's been public is already damming and everything will be unsealed in October. So we'll see more of the grimey **** the UFC has done.

Erik Magraken is also a good follow. He's a lawyer that goes over the antitrust and helps explain things as they happen. He attends a lot of the ABC hearings too. He helped in making those 3 rule changes to the Unified Rules last week.

So it turns out they don't need a Union to make substantial sweeping changes?? wow

I remember Luke Thomas always saying "without court mandates" or "legal precedent" so I guess this makes sense

Longo on with Anik and Florian said Sean Shelby asked aljo if he wanted a rematch backstage and aljo said yes

Lmao Sean is mean for even asking that when it ain’t gonna happen

At this point I think Aljo is at minimum 2 fights away from another BW shot especially with Suga as champ. I'd like to see him test the waters at FW against a Holloway, Ortega, etc. One big win could put him into a ts.

I actually agree he should probably move up anyway and just try to change your body

Cutting down constantly ain’t gonna work especially when he’s battling Dana giving him a rematch to begin with
