The 2014-2015 NBA Season Thread. Lock It Up Please: The Golden State Warriors Are The Champions

I've been watching CP3 his entire NBA professional career and he isn't an exceptional defender. Sure, he gets a couple of steals, but that's because he gamble sometimes. The same can be said about Ricky Rubio. Allen Iverson was also the same way. People would look at his stats and see 3 steals, and immediately they would think he's a solid defender. That's not even close to being true.

Those figures are null and void to me bro! If you honestly admire Chris Paul defensive prowess, you're not watching the game with both eyes. Chris Paul has never locked any opposing offensive player down. These in-game defensive heroics of his, I don't see it. I don't want to be hypothetical but Chris Paul has been healthy since entering the league in 2005, no major time missed except once, I recall. He won those awards by default because every other PG was hurt. Paul isn't a better defender than D.Rose, Deron Williams, Rondo, Eric Bledsoe, Jeff Teague, Russell Westbrook, Chalmers, Conley, etc. Chris Paul is always getting beat off the dribble. As a leader and and floor general, he is savvy.

what other two way players actually lock up?

Steve Nash is head and shoulders above Chris Paul. A real throwback to 60s, 70s, 80s, early 90s point guards. Chris Paul has HORRIBLE sportsmanship. And what's funny, Nash's only true knock was his defense, which is easily true. And, Chris Paul has been a defensive liability since Wake Forest. And as he's getting older, it'll be even worse for that boy! Anywho, Tony Parker has owned Paul/Nash throughout all of their careers. They never want to see TP9!
dont forget tony parker also beat prime jason kidd & prime kmart & prime richard jefferson lol

steals are not part of defense?

jordan is considered the epitome of elite defense yet cats had 30+ games against him, tim duncan had pf light him up for 50+ nights and he's considered an elite defender.

defense is not a zero sum game.

chris paul is a great team defender and that is an 'underrated' defensive attribute. forget your opinions on the man, the dude is a great defender.

Do you watch him play? Who has he put the clamps on? Deron used to make him his ***** when he was healthy. All of those steal stats were him jumping passing lanes, he's just not that great on the ball. I don't think he's bad but yes, he's overrated as a defender.

you cant be serious

beside what PG does to Melo...what other stars lock up other stars?

Agreed on cp3. Overrated af on d. Iverson wasn't a good defender either . I've never seen cp shut anyone down. The good defender rumors are just rumors fans of his make up to hype him up .

Bron on Rose in the playoffs during Rose's MVP year?

I've seen enough CP3 games to justify how I feel to myself, if you feel otherwise go ahead. Not that serious.

Lmao.

Rubio is actually a really good defender. Besides passing, it's all he's good at.

It's kind of silly to compare Chris Paul to LeBron from a defensive standpoint. CP is only 6 feet tall and a good, but not exceptional athlete. He doesn't have the physical attributes to be able to lock down everyone, especially bigger players. But he's great with steals and generally makes the players he's guarding work hard for what they get, so IMO his reputation as a good defensive player is warranted.

Sad 2 hear about Steve but happy he had a great career, a true PG. 1 of the best 2 ever do it. His biggest fan, AI

Take that, Nash haters! If AI says he was one of the best to ever do it, who are any of you to argue?

melo dogs PG almost every time.  i guess today is asinine statement day first with the cp3 defense comment now this

the guard position is the hardest to defend. because every night you are going up against someone who is eithr really good, really fast, or crazy athletic. center and power forward position is easiest to defend, then small forward.

tbh Nash sitting out the season is the best thing for the Lakers
They are able to move on and invest in better and younger PGs
