You gotta move on from this Rey lineage thing. There's still another film and I'm sure they'll answer you. Maybe not what you want, but just wait. Jesus.

You think Rey not being a Skywalker is the only problem I have, cute. That’s actually the cherry on top of this turd of a film.

I agree with you on the Luke thing but I didn't expect Rey's family to be revealed. I watched TFA on a flight last week, and that fish looking person that had Luke's lightsaber says something like "You're never going to find them and solve your past, but you have more important things to take care of in the future".

That’s the thing, the movie put in enough misdirect to where Rey didn’t have to be Luke’s child which is perfectly fine if the overarching story that was being told was gonna be served. There isn’t even a direction for the story. TLJ slams the door shut on any question and intrigue posed from TFA almost as if it’s a reboot. It doesn’t flow at all from a thematic and storytelling perspective. Part 8 in a 40 year old story that completely disregards the previous 40 years. The proponents for this film will soon understand. This film wanted to take a different route for longevity and handicapped their longevity in the process. Nose clean AF cut off to save its face.

uh, when did Luke KNOW about Darth Vader? Was it the first film?
Was it in Empire?

some of you on here want a SPECIFIC thing and when that isn't delivered, it's trash.
I guess technically, tears contain SALT.

I agree. If I viewed this movie as a standalone movie without knowing much of the backstory, I would've probably liked it more. In fact, that's exactly what happened with my friend and his girlfriend; my friend is a huge geek who left the movie saying "This movie doesn't even make sense" while his girlfriend enjoyed the action and thought it was a fun way to kill a couple of hours on a Sunday.

The excuse of "They took everything you thought Star Wars was about and completely flipped it :pimp:" shouldn't be a positive thing.

Imagine you're writing a 10 page university paper, and after 7 pages, you completely contradict the argument and points you were presenting in the first 8 pages

Again, I am not a huge Star Wars fan. I would've been completely fine with Luke being a weird animal molester hermit, people being able to use force powers to survive in space, ships not being able to hyperdrive in front of the Rebel fleet in order to cut them off, lightsaber mastery being handed down just by grabbing a lightsaber, etc. IF these were consistent with the universe the first 6 movies established.

I don't need to go to film school to ask a question like "How come Luke, the son of Anakin, did not become proficient with a lightsaber immediately after turning on Anakin's saber for the first time, but random scavenger Rey was able to defeat a trained knight after the same saber spoke to her???"

I really don't see that at all. JJ can almost go whatever direction he wants in Episode IX with regard to so many things originally brought up in TFA such as Rey's lineage.

Too late for that; we're already two movies in and Rey is literally even more on the good side than she was before

Luke had some light to moderate training for a couple movies including use of a lightsaber, and he still got treated like a rag doll by Vader in their first duel. THAT is believable.

First time we saw Luke fight he literally got tossed  Then Obi Wan sliced off someone's hand and the fight was over

You’re able to grasp what so many can’t or are pretending not to be able to. Rian Johnson subverted expectations for no other purpose but shock value and now he’s having to do damage control. Little does he know that he’ll be doing it for the rest of his life...

And further sully the storyline even more? Sure Snoke could not really be dead, yeah Phasma can come back, yes Rey can still be a Skywalker or Solo or Palpatine or whoever but TLJ becomes that much more of a black spot. This film was pointless

3 showings in. It’s the same movie. It doesn’t get better. Some stuff I’m like ok on but other then that the movie has no flow from 7-8. It’s good movie I don’t dislike any Star Wars movie or trilogy but it’s a terrible sequel.

According to some, it gets better the 5th time you view it

I feel bad for you man. But I told you. Everyday, for 2 years. You did this to yourself, not Disney, not Rian, not JJ, no one. It's all on you.

Most of us have no issues with how they handled Rey, you let it ruin the movie for you. That's a tough break man. :smh:

What are you even talking about.
You wasted typing that essay because everything in it holds no weight.
Surpassing TFA does not equal success. Sit down.

Dude seriously just went from Luke Sandusky to Flowers in the Attic. Now I'm really curious what his thoughts were when his Twin Heroes tonsil hockeyed. TWICE.

Luke’s parents weren’t a mystery. Luke’s whole plot was about living up to his father’s legacy and avenging his father by beating the bad guy who took his father from him. The twist? The bad guy is his father. We the viewers are captivated.

Rey’s whole plot is about finding her parents so she can be...happy? But all the while she has a destiny to fulfill. The twist? Her parents are dead(?) so she’s sad? No she isn’t. And the destiny she’s suppose to fulfill is being a Jedi, I think. But the Jedi are dead.

What???

Was this trilogy actually supposed to be the continuance of the previous 6? There's no sith, not sure if the first order and empire are the same, there was one Jedi who was there for the rebels. I saw the movie as a new trilogy with a connection to the previous 6. Separate stories with familiar faces. TFA did a good job of introducing the new character base, making them seem familiar probably due to the overall likeness of the ot. But it isn't the same story now, it's different. They made a new movie where we can't say this was supposed to happen and because it didn't it's not star wars. We don't know what star wars is about now, until the 3rd one comes it isn't bad or good to me, but I enjoyed it for what it is. A movie.

Ditto.
3 views in. Feel same way about good/bad parts.
Action sequences kept my interest.

No that fight scene is awesome but behind maul/obi-wan, Anakin/obi-wan and definitely both vader/Luke fights

Luke/Vader final fight is the best one to me. It just looks the most realistic in terms of choreography, and the emotions involved make it even better. I liked the prequel fights initially, but they also looked over-choreographed when I rewatched them . Half the time it didn't even look like people were trying to hit each other, especially with all those unnecessary flips and spins that we now have so many GIFs of
