Even cp vs zik is a more interesting fight than anakin and obi wan in ROTS

CP vs Zik is boring as hell compared to that masterpiece of a fight. Waited years for that and Lucas delivered. Was perfect in every way.

In fact I might go watch it again now.
not even a top 5 star wars fight

if you get that excited over an overload of cgi with no substance go watch transformers 4 or ASM2
Definitely a top 5 fight, CGI or no.

Transformers 4 is trash, one of the worst films i've ever seen in theaters and ASM2 simply wasn't equal to its predecessor.
exactly, that fight is on par with a transformers movie

boring, one dimensional characters swinging glowsticks around in an overly choreographed way.

bunch of nonsense like swinging around, floating on random robots in lava (?????), pointless cgi in the background

there is no emotional weight to the fight because in 8 hours of movies we never got to see the two as great friends

after 8 minutes of pointless action obiwan wins because anakin pulls the exact same move that obiwan did in episode 1 to beat maul???????

does george even watch his own movies? after all that pointless nonsense you end it on some higher ground nonsense?

pure garbage put to film. all flash no substance.

the best moment in any prequel fight is when the fight stops in episode one and quigon sits down while maul stalks around

great character moment

"overly choreographed"

So now we're criticizing them because they spent too much time planning out every detail of the fights and making sure that it looks nice for the viewers?

Moving on, I went into it yesterday that the films did a fine job with the relationship so there's little reason to go into that again. Though even beyond that, a good fight is a good fight and doesn't require that people be either friends or enemies. They could be complete strangers and the fight be ******* amazing, which the Mustafar duel is. ****, Luke vs Vader on Cloud City is great and has nothing to do with any kind of emotion being thrown around. Ben vs Vader in turn is trash because you've got two old men barely doing a damn thing before one lets himself get cut down.

it doesnt look like a real fight

its like they are not trying to kill eachother, they are just going through the motions and tapping sticks over and over

no one gets hurt, no one changes emotion in 8 whole minutes of dancing with sticks

it would be like if b rabbit stepped up to papa doc and started reciting the first verse of triumph. nah man, that aint a freestyle.

that duel would have sucked if it was in a sunny, wide open, grassy field during the summertime b

atmosphere evokes emotion

Yeah the setting definitely added to the weight of the fight and made it feel like this big confrontation, but i'm speaking of the emotion from the actors/characters. In terms of setting, Cloud City, Death Star 2, the palace on Naboo, Mustafar, all of them were just fine for the duels that took place.

Well if that's what you honestly think there's nothing I can say to you man. Because it sure as hell looks like they're trying to kill each other everytime I watch the fight and the same goes for pretty much every lightsaber fight I can think of in the franchise.

I think yall are looking for different things in a fight scene.

In the OT, the fights were slow paced with a lot of talking in between to build up drama and tension. They weren't action packed or exciting. They were more shocking where if you stopped paying attention somebody would lose their hand or arm or end up with a scar or end up falling down SW's signature bottomless pits.

In the PT, the fights were specifically aimed to be choreographed action packed sword fights. They delivered. They may have been a bit too choreographed at times but it did what it was suppose to do. I don't see what cgi has to do with that since the entire PT is filled with cgi, mostly unnecessary  That didn't really change the fights.

Looking at the differences, it may just be that George always wanted the fights to be like that and since he wasn't confident at the time to do it that way he punched things up with the dialogue.

That Maul fight was great. Yes it was cool when Qui-Gon and Maul had to wait; one pacing a bit impatiently while the other meditates. Showed great contrast between the two fighters. Obi-Wan was the panicky one trying to catch up.

In the end though, and this goes for movies across the board, not every fight is meant to be great character moments and not every fight is meant to solely be cool action and violence.

this is exactly why the three sorry excuses for a movie are pure garbage

it literally doesnt make a difference if you replace the two of them with randoms. no one cares about these characters because they have no character

without context and character the fight is so boring to me

if I wanted to watch cool fighting I would watch a jackie chan movie, star wars is and should always be about the characters

Obi-Wan and Anakin have plenty of character and the fight was emotional as hell, while being well put together from a choreography standpoint. But like I said before we've gone over this already so I don't see a point to repeat the discussion. The fight's in ESB and ROTJ were also well put together and excellent, so i'd say that Star Wars is a franchise that provides good action scenes and character moments, plus a whole lot more. But that's just me.

Indeed it does.

Holds a glowing hot blade that can cut through nearly anything to another man's throat, while choking said man with his other hand, doesn't look like he's trying to kill him. Guess he just thought Obi-Wan's beard needed a trim.

i could never put the darth maul final duel near the top of the list...

maul is the bad guy, but something about 2 on 1 really draws my empathy away from the jedi in that one scene...

as to the point i didn't feel badly for jin when he got got as it was an unfair fight

just tried to watch the "fight" again got bored after 45 seconds, skipped through the next 6 minutes and found some entertainment during their verbal exchange before anakin gets washed

the pure awfulness of how hayden delivers his lines is hilarious

Understandable. I thought it made Maul look like an even bigger threat, with the return of the Sith gaining even more weight. Also liked getting to see two Jedi work together against an opponent in a duel, yet being unable to take him down. And as the first duel in the new trilogy it was everything I could've hoped for, where you really get to see what a Jedi is like from when the Order was in its prime.

batman and robin is actually pretty entertaining if you watch it as a comedy, maybe this would also work for episode 3

Eh, Obi-Wan was barely a Jedi Master/Knight and Maul held his own quite fine for the duration. When it came down to the end, he killed Qui-Gon one on one. Then Obi-Wan killed him one on one.

Maul's face makes it hard for me to have empathy for him
