Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

so his effort on WATTBA is considered "bars"?

I didn’t say that. The reference was made to as an example of his versatility. It’s two extremes - WATTBA and Hotling Bling are polar opposites in terms of sound for Drake. Within his catalog of songs you’d consider more rap than pop, he still shows versatility. It’s not just in his ability to move from an album with Future to a major pop hit.

P & Juicy over Outkast is comical

Not really, P did something that no one else has done and was bigger than just the south. Big Boi and 3K rap better than both but Juicy J been putting out music for over 20 years and makes beats. Big Boi still dropping great albums, 3K hanging out in Soho designing shoes. Rushmore is more than just lyrical skills in my opinion.

That's a fair point but I'd still put Big Boi on Rushmore before 3K because of the amount of work and I'm still putting P over either of them.

Outkast didn't get love like that outside of the south until Stankonia and even then it was just the singles.

No Limit and 3 6 were bigger outside of the south.

Nah, Outkast was getting PLENTY of love once ATLiens came out. ATLiens and Aquemini was looked at as classics.

Ima be real, the only songs I listen to off WATTBA are the Future only versions of Digital Dash & I'm The Plug, Jersey & Jumpman. That **** was kinda forgettable. Easily the most forgettable project Future dropped since Monster. At least he cashed out with it though.

Super Slimy >>>>>> WATTBA

They won’t until he’s done. They didn’t stop hating on Wayne till he was on his last leg. It’s just the cycle

People finally smartened up about Birdman's son throughout all those delusions they had during his run. Drake actually has a better case as a goat than him.

Bigger mainstream wise maybe (just No Limit really and only up to a point) but Outkast got respect from both coasts 3 albums in and the last 2 were well regarded as classics.

I like Evol more than WATTBA

Maybach
Lie to me
Xanny Family
Little Haity Baby (my favorite off the tape)
Ain't No Time
Low Life

That **** had heaters man. Definitely better than WATTBA. At least to me.

Even with Big Boi having more music, Dre still better

other thoughts:

- south don't **** with Dre 3000?

- after about 2000, the only new artists arguably even in contention for the top 10, 20 or 30 rappers of all time are Drake, Kanye, Kendrick, Wayne, T.I. and I guess Em (Bling Bling and Block is Hot was before 2000 but Wayne did most of his work post 2000, Em same thing). And Drake is arguably anywhere from #1 to #4 of those six, you can say he's soft or not for you but he's definitely one of the best outside of the "Golden Era"
