Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Drake is a once in a lifetime talent

Once in a life time talent is Michael Jackson, Prince, Bob Marley

Stop :smh:

I Never compared him to those people.

Drakes ability to merge rap and r&b (successfully) and do it at a high level and to be consistent and relevant over a long period of time as hip-hop changes every 3- 4 years takes a lot of talent and hard work.

I never claimed him to be a hip hop king ,or have the best body of work.

But to dismiss him like he has no talent and that anyone can do what he does is crazy.

He’s talented but I would never say no one else can do it. Plenty of people singing and rapping better than him. He’s more popular and more successful. His voice isn’t good, bars are average. He’s got some great songs. Y’all gotta relax.

Lol you think gods plan is a pop song

But a couple months ago it was a “rip off of SoundCloud rap”

Which one is it? The hates can never decide, whatever’s convenient :rolleyes

That’s not a pop song? Feel like you Aubrey Broads get really offended over the word pop and I don’t know why. That’s his goal, God’s Plan isn’t a ****in rap song. The lyrics are trash, catchy and simple as hell. The beat and hook couldn’t be anymore pop.

I feel like calling him a pop star is a compliment, that means he’s bigger than rap and a hue star. It’s not a diss but he’s not a rapper in my book. He doesn’t rap

Just like he’s not an R&B singer in my book.

Different people can have different opinions bro wtf

All “haters” don’t have to “hate” the same way

...in a water down era of mainstream music...

All these dudes would not compete, in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc. most “modern” fans of music/millennials dont know anything about music

both sides in here be having an unhealthy obsession with the love and hate for this dude.

Idk why dudes still argue (on either side)

Drake won’t get the credit he deserves, y’all won’t convince anyone to switch sides really

and if someone already wrote him off, then whats it matter, just enjoy the music

   Jesus Christ. *****s just be talking man

Does he belong in the same category as Scarface, Nas, Jay and Rakim? If I had to guess, I’d guess you’d say yes. I wouldn’t put him in that category. He raps at times but rock stars, country stars and pop stars rap on songs too. Doesn’t make them rappers.

Yeah...but he isn't a singer who raps. He raps more than he sings if we're keeping it a buck.

I'm not debating that he's a pop star. He is. And I do agree that that isn't bad at all. But so is kendrick, Cole, future, and others. But you guys disingenuously use it in a condescending way. We know this because you'll never call future a pop star even though he put out a number 1 album in which he sang the entire album, something drake has never done.

That Gods Plan record is the perfect example of him doing lazy music. At this point in his career he shouldn't be tryna jump that soundcloud, microwave, Lil Uzi rap. You 30 something years old bruh. That's all him and his writers been doing his last few projects, just jumping whats popular.

I wouldn’t call Future, Cole or Kendrick pop stars.

When DMX sold 6 million, he wasn’t making pop music or considered a pop star.

When Jay sold 4 million, same ****.

I think Future is trying to become a pop star but hasn’t succeeded.

Being objective, what on More Life sounded “current wave” though, sans a track like ‘Portland’, which was nowhere the best or most popular off the project

If y’all luv Drake n feel he’s so great why even entertain ppl u think talking crazy or don’t mess wit him ...y’all feel/know he’s great but yet run to defend anything that’s not praising him , it’s as weird as the dudes that hate him imo

This really for all the stans on here ...Drake/jay/ Akedemiks etc :lol

You don't think Future is a pop star?

Man what?! :rollin :rollin Aesthetic is crazy man. Future is 100% a pop star. So is Kendrick Lamar.

and I LOVE that song.

*most popular*

Passionfruit = pop
Free smoke = rap
Gyalchester = rap
Teenage fever = pop/r&b

etc etc
Nah I agree with your overall point but Portland was a standout cut from the project. I don’t even mess with it like that but it is.

It’s fun tbh. I like hearing ppls delusional opinions backed with 0 facts. :pimp:

Take Care. Six year stint on the Billboard 200. I personally think he has three classic albums but Take Care is the one I believe is universally lauded as a great timeless album.

NWTS right behind it 225 weeks

Thank me later is underrated
