Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

It doesn't matter that you don't think he has 3 or 4 classics. It's the consensus.

Nope, I’m not rolling. Most of those people think he’s a god and he’s a fashion expert. It’s cool and trendy to call Kanye’s albums classics. If you or those people can sit through all those albums and not skip more than a song or two, than cool.

True or False: Drake is a top 25 rapper of all time, right now.

I say true.

Hahahahahaha, he’s banned from any real list because he has multiple writers. If he didn’t get exposed, he still wouldn’t make my top 40.

Baller is so extreme.

College Dropout, Late Registration and Dark Fantasy are classics. I wouldn't be mad if somebody said Graduation was.

You play those albums in their entirety often without skipping more than two tracks?

Depends on the barometer you’re using:

As far as success, he’s way up there

As far as lyrics, no matter how much people wanna deflect his talents, he can pen nicely compared to a lot of people, that ghostwriting **** I chalk up to chasing hits

Sales, up there but times have changed with streaming

Talent, up there...as in people always check his projects out at least once

Overall? No one is touching Jay IMO, but the argument can be made for top 15

Who came up with you can’t skip songs on a classic tho

Can't call an album a classic if you skipping mad songs. Classic is basically perfection, why would you need to skip songs on a perfect album?

I might lose the war and start streaming music. It's getting hard as hell to download albums that aren't popular. I've been trying to find this Nym Lo and TXS albums and no ****in luck. **** getting old.

Master P?

As far as what?

Juicy J?

As far as actual rapping?

P and Juicy were good southern rappers. They weren't mad lyrical but they could make a good album. P did **** no one else has done and really changed the game for the south. Juicy makes beats and has been doing it for like 22 years or some **** now. That's why they'd be on my southern rushmore. Rushmore is legends, people that were great but made a real impact on rap and their region.

I had Bun and Killer Mike in mind and they're better rappers but they didn't have the impact that P and J had.

that's exactly how I gave in

DL'ing music started becoming a chore after a while

plus discovering music from genres I'm not super familiar with makes it worth it

This song was so hard when it dropped, **** still serious. I can't believe this song wasn't on his album. Joint still get me hype.

Drake is high up on the all time list for me (top 25) because of longevity, consistency, and versatility.

Man gave us WATTBA for those that wanted bars and then puts out a mainstream smash with Hotling Bling 2 months it so later. Admittedly, I’m not the biggest fan of a lot of his sing-song-ish tracks (i.e. Marvin’s Room) but it’s the ability to infuse melody that gives him the versatility that’s allowed him to last this long.

How many other rappers been this hot for nearly 10 years straight? Drake can give you bars too. Let’s not act like dude wasn’t rapping his *** off when he first came out...that “ghostwriting” stuff is silly. The ability is there and I’m sure he still writes but just like your favorite rappers he gets help.

i hope one day alex tumay or someone just gets fed up and releases an *** of vocal sessions from all the autotune mumble ****** with no vocal effects
