I'm torn between two choices and I don't think either will make it back to me.... but I'll take the chance that my other choice might still be there.
For my 4th pick, I'm going back to the well as this was a previous pick for the best director for me. I"m trying to diversify my director choices but I have to pick another Spielberg... if Saving Private Ryan showcased the horrors of the warfront and human element of the soldiers, this choice shows the other horror of WWII and does so in an honest, dramatic, and brutal touch that only Spielberg could do. Masterfully shot, wonderfully acted by Neeson, Fiennes, and Kingsley, it's one of the most emotionally draining and dramatic movies I've seen.
Schindler's List, Drama.
t's kinda what happened to me when I watched it again last year. A lot of scenes, you can just kinda take in the artistry and the creativity. But then there are those scenes, that aren't even just depressing and profound...they're those, 'you can't come back from this' scene. With Lord of the Rings, that first time you see an army the movie levels you...you're amazed in a good way. The first time you see a village worth of naked families walking towards...those are you can't come back from this moments. Movies like Hostel, are what they are...but this. They don't have to exaggerate, because enough of the trauma happens inside of you. I couldn't watch Schindler's again this year or next. It's everyone. It's the humiliation...it's the old people that hurt me. That's too much to want to experience again.
Chances of this next pick being around next round is startlingly low, so, time to take it off the board. 4th round selection:
Casino
Crime
What's your criteria for picking?Looking @ my board now I do wish we did a bunch more genres
There's a dozen films I love not gonna get picked. Some where its looking like I wont even be able to pick my favorite directors
welp this pick confirms that im withholding my pick until i see The Irishman next weekend. See yall in 6 days
I have every genre covered with a movie I love or that impacted me deeply or just stays with me to this day. However there are a few of those in the same genre. What's your criteria for picking?
Genres you need to fill?
To me the guardrails are just to expand your options and highlight blindspots. Every genre is high-key represented. More would be nice, but just line up your values.
For me, I'm just trying to pick only movies I absolutely love, weighing out how likely they'll get picked before me vs. how much they represent all of cinema to me.
What is it? 168 gonna get picked?
We leaving out classics no matter WHAT!
My fav genres are sci-fi and thrillers and the way things are going I'm not gonna have Hitchcock or Tarantino when this ends let alone Scorsese.
mmm I get that. See my favorite is comedy. My list for comedy was as long as all the others combined, cuz the classics overflowed. So I picked the movie that taught me something could be for everyone AND just for me.I have every genre covered with a movie I love or that impacted me deeply or just stays with me to this day. If we had mystery, war films (similat to western being its own thing), adventure or fantasy I'd be able to fit more.
Honestly I'd be good with 6 more utility picks My fav genres are sci-fi and thrillers and the way things are going I'm not gonna have Hitchcock or Tarantino when this ends let alone Scorsese.
I love comedy but be in a fog for a go to list. When you chose C2A I was like how did that not come to mind soonermmm I get that. See my favorite is comedy. I remember watching it as a kid with the fam on TV, then watching the uncut VHS (my parents accidentally bought, then hid) at 1 in the morning in the living room . It made me realize, if it's real funny, it'll never ever get old. And you can tell your people people by what they find funny.
So for me...I needed that one. I want the rest, but all of the rest are inside of that one in a way.
So just think, what movie(s) made you fall in love with the genre, personally.
Oh I know whyOnly bringing those two up cause theres no chance they will be drafted
Damn I lost Psycho, Inglorious Bastards, Matrix, Schindler's List, and The Exorcist. Legit was gonna take one of them this pick
Might be a reach here, but I highly doubt it will make it back around to me after the next round, and who knows what get back is gonna roll with....
My 4th round pick is the GOAT Christmas movie, but since that's not a category, I guess I'll slot it under Action
getback up twice
