Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

i usually don't like shoes/movies from this general time period (gangs of new york being a notable exception) but i'm loving taboo very much.

watched about half of shin godzilla and turned it off.

gonna probably try girl on the train again tomorrow or manchester by the sea.

The Incredibles was great. I almost want a sequel but Pixar's track record with sequels, in terms of quality, is very poor.

Finding Dory was gross and should have never been made.

Both Toy Story sequels have been excellent, arguably each better than the first. But Cars 2 and Finding Dory, yeah, not so much. And we're getting Cars 3 this Summer.

no, just no. toy story 1 is a masterpiece. 2 and 3 were meh.

Futurama love :pimp: Matt Groening really hit gold with both of his shows, shame the one that fell off is still the one running.

the simpsons season 1 - 10 is some of the goat tv.

You guys and some in the NFL thread are gonna make me go see Split  with these rave reviews.

I'm interested in Sneaky Pete as well.

My plan Friday night is to finally watch Moonlight.

The Academy just announced the nominations.

I'm happy to say Moonlight got 8 noms for:

Best Picture
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Director
Best Score
Best Cinematography
Best Supporting- Actor
Best Film Editing
Best Supporting- Actress

Looks like La La Land might be a big winner. Between that and Moonlight. Arrival looks like it got a lot of noms too.

Saw XXX : Return of Xander Cage. Nice zone out Popcorn movie. Dialogue was funny, would not mind seeing a 4th.

Split question:

When was it said that Kevin's dad died in the train accident? I think i might of missed it. And I am a bit curious as to why the beast had to go to the Amtrak train to gain his powers...I saw Split on a sneak screening, so it has been 2 weeks since I seen it.

Even though I didn't see Arrival, I'm assuming Amy Adams was snubbed and robbed of a nomination.

She was def not robbed for arrival. Call me when she plays a role with which she doesn't look like she's about to cry for an entire movie.

Anyways, just saw Manchester by the Sea last night. I'm so conflicted. Acting wise it's 8/8. There are just so many different ways I would have gone with the story and the dialogue to put it in the best picture catalogue.

Also, I thought Kubo and the Two Strings deserved a best picture nom. I rank it better than most movies on that list.

Not sure if the academy opened their eyes and minds to more minority offerings, or just shoehorning.

Fences or Moonlight would not have gotten the noticed by the Acadmey 10 years ago.

Diversity forces people to see movies wouldn't have seen before. Especially in the case of Moonlight

Only the white man can save China from LOTR reject monsters.

IIRC, I saw an Asian woman in the Great Wall trailer for like half-a-second. LOL. The whitewashing aside - not that it isn't ridiculous- the movie just looks bad.

Matt must be getting paid a lot for it. Otherwise I don't know what he was thinking when he signed on. He's usually pretty good about picking projects.

Nothing for Deadpool? I was coming across articles the last few weeks saying it was going to get nominations.

Most ppl I see have gone overboard in their praise for Split. I wouldn't go in with a mind blowing film built up in my head. That last minute though :wow:

Watched Beware the Slenderman last night

It's mega heartbreaking and depressing...can't stop thinking about it

Damn I wasn't planning on seeing Lion or Hidden Figures (seems by the #s).

Damn the academy just completely screwed me in the best actress dept. I've seen one and plan on seeing another. Haven't heard of some of the other movies.

I'll still watch as much as I can but I get the feeling this isn't gonna be a year where Moonlight, La La Land, and Manchester By the Sea win a lot and it's undeserved. A lot of these other movies don't seem like they've been praised since they've come out.

Anyway, gonna watch Fences.

I thought Hidden Figures was good, but no clue on accuracy or anything like that. I thought the women all did a great job tho.

(they did seem to pimp Costner's role, I suspect there's some adjusting there, historically speaking)

Same goes for the Astronaut too I suppose. Ok, maybe it is by the numbers.

Just saw split.

McAvoy :wow:

He has to win something for that performance man.

Impressive return by M.Night esp after his last few blunders

Don't like how he kinda went the "super natural" route towards the end. Felt like a cheap / cop out ending
