***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Famb calls himself a "real Democrat" and a progressive put he gets ridiculously mealy-mouthed when it comes to talking about social justice. He excuses all sorts of foul **** with "People where I come from want jobs".

Someone once said that if The Bigot™ were a state, he'd be West Virginia.

Masterful. :smh: :smh:

Can someone tell me why the White House gets to dictate the scope of the FBI’s investigation? What part of the game is that? The wing-it-as-you-go part?
It's the stupid part, the one that occupies the White House.

These morons just spend a week refusing to get the FBI involved and at the same time hyping the Ford/Kavanaugh testimonies and when it spectacularly blew up in their faces and forced them to reopen the background check, the ****heads continue to delegitimize their own candidate by limiting the scope of FBI's involvement. Clearly they don't give a **** about raping a few eggs to make their omelette, but they are so brazen and obvious about it, that they are forced to give in to the overwhelming public pressure, they created themselves. They don't need the democrats, all they had to do was to slam this dunk, but in their infinite wisdom they decided to go with the God damn Roy Moore option again.

WTF is wrong with these people

SNL pulling a NYT and putting Kanye on with a MAGA hat for 3 songs.

Michael Che looking like he's ready to quit tonight.

Kanye is still trying to make MAGA a thing? This clown made a song swearing to Kim he would mess the money up..... then has proceeded to go out there and mess the money up. Sammy Davis and James Brown never recovered from their support of Nixon and they were way bigger at the time than Kanye is now. His career is not going to recover from this.

Sammy Davis and James Brown didn’t have Yeezy Shoes, and a billionaire wife. The biscuit boy will be ok If Kim doesn’t leave him. Would b hilarious to see her leave him for YG.

Much of this thread is us joking and dunking on conservatives which is fine because the more serious work of reading and seriously discussing our world can and is done in other online spaces (including a few other threads on this board). There are exceptions to this rule and over the years I’ve learned a lot but on daily basis it’s mostly about gallows humor for our ailing body politic.

Today though, @osh kosh bosh asked one of the most thought provoking questions that I’ve come across in quite some time.

The question that's been bugging me lately.

What do republicans think is going to happen at the end of all this?

So after grabbing Merrick Garlands seat they nominate, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and let's say RBG dies, and they nominate Amy Comey Barett.

Then the Supreme Court completely dismantles unions, basically destroys all government regulatory agencies by axing Chevron deference, they kill Obamacare and basically all other attempts at socialized medicine, they remove all limits on campaign financing, kill any civil rights enforcement, increase restrictions on voting, and the deliver on verdict after another in favor of capital.

an then to top it all off they kill Roe v. Wade.

What happens then? Is it really gonna be sweet? These things are unpopular and are opposed by much of the country, do you think you can have a stable society when like a few billionaires and the 33% of the country that's in their thrall destroy liberal democracy?

America is in for some scary hours. imo.

The donor class has an end game and it’s to ultimately disenfranchise almost everyone in America. Even permanent GOP majorities and all of the policy outcomes that you mentioned are not enough. The top tier of the GOP donor class sees itself as the only legitimate source of power in the Country.

As soon as they establish permanent minority rule they’ll start to cut working and middle class whites out of the picture. Then the upper middle class will be cut out and then the lower tier of multi millionaires will be cut off from power. I could easily imagine this process starting with a temporary bar to voting for people on public assistance and that would turn into a lifetime ban for people who ever received public assistance. Then people with mortgages on their houses lose the right to vote. The there will be a half million dollar property requirement. Then it will become a half million in liquid property test and so on and so on.

At every step the way the members of this white ruling class will justify each act of disenfranchisement my saying that having money implies competence and that not being rich implies a lack virtue.

It’s scary for us in the US but it could be scary for everyone because this canibalistic plutocratic class won’t be content simply excercising absolute rule over the United States.

I see it slightly differently. The plutocratic class already rules over the rest of the non-democratic world. The last bastion of human freedom (the individual countries in the Democratic West) is now being attacked by those people who have learned how to coerce politicians in developing countries into putting the oligarchy interests above those of the populace they're supposed to help thrive.

Tesla big battery defies skeptics, sends industry bananas over performance

https://reneweconomy.com.au/tesla-b...ends-industry-bananas-over-performance-38273/

But there can be no doubt that the Tesla big battery – and the other batteries that are following – will give the government confidence as the state’s share of wind and solar leaps from 50 per cent now to more than 73 per cent by 2021 and 100 per cent by 2025. (Those are AEMO forecasts).

That is a key point. Tesla has been a path finder for the battery storage industry, proving that it can deliver energy security, can lower costs, can find revenues, and identify what it needs to be changed so that the full value of battery storage can be realised.

Interesting - a lot of renewable energy is really promising but it’s hard to store - particularly things like solar when it’s dark or wind when it’s not windy. Battery technology has really improved in the last few years so if they can start to store that energy efficiently it will renewables much more useful - never mind things like electric cars.

Mike Pence immediately consulted mother to cleanse himself upon hearing those words.

Kim has that man wrapped around his finger completely
I'll reference a previous a post detailing a letter Trump received from Kim on July 6th. If this letter is any indication, I imagine the others are similarly filled with flowery language and lots of flattery.
I would suggest reading this letter from Kim to Trump from July 6th and taking a close look at his linguistic approach.
"H.E. Donald J. Trump"
"Your Excellency Mr. President" x4
"Your Excellency" x1
"Energetic and extraordinary efforts" (surprised he didn't throw in a 'tremendous' there)
