***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Not sure if this has been posted here but on top of everything else (More registered Republicans than Democrats nationally for the first time in a generation, losing the young male vote 2-to-1), The electoral college map is only going to get harder for Democrats going forward and it's all their fault.

99% of people don't move away from blue states to red states because of politics, it's because of the cost of living. The "blue wall" (If you can call it that anymore) isn't going to matter in the future if electoral college votes continue to be taken away from solid blue states and moved to red states

Ignoring California for a minute, paying the same (or more) to be cold is an incredibly hard sell. Especially with the number of remote jobs these days. Aside from family, why would one stay in Michigan or Wisconsin when you can move to Georgia or Texas or NC?

Hell if I had gotten a remote job in my 20s I’d probably be in Georgia right now.

Every day we hear new cabinet members I 😃.This is going to be fun. Scums going to scum and people are going to get what they voted or didn’t vote for. Looking forward to the chaos because gas prices and milk or MALK WERE JUST TOOO HIGH THAT atlsfinest atlsfinest had to root against da GEORGIA UGA DAWGS

It's things like these that I really wish there was some way we could use programs like these only for people that voted that way. Of course it's impossible but man im so tired of all these people I know who are eating good based on all of the stuff that dems and Newsom have done in California but then also voted trump and do nothing but complain about the Dems. If it's so bad and they're so bad, then give all that **** back.

the people that vote against this stuff never take advantage of it to begin with. Mostly because states are pretty terrible about promoting them, NJ included. I only got this alert because I am subscribed to receive emails from the state for this specific reason. New Jersey is on the expensive end of the spectrum but there are a lot of prosperity investments for those that look for them.

Through a state grant, my then girlfriend now wife were able to have our entire down payment and closing costs covered on an FHA mortgage back in 2017. in fact we got $1500 back. The only stipulation being that we have to stay in the house for 5 years or the grant has to be paid back. 7 years later we're still in the house and were knocking on $250k worth of equity. All from a $13000 grant from a state that values investing in people. If that means ive got to deal with higher taxes so that people in the position I was in back in 2017 can get a foot hold on stability, I'm all for it. Blue states need to put on the national stage how they’re actually out here passing policies that help people.

Yeah.. a little more to it than "Dem housing policies". Not that it isn't a major issue in CA/NY

Cost of housing in the sun belt has already sky rocketed. And buying a house in FL these days? No thanks

With that said, Blue states hemorrhaging electoral votes isn't great. We're looking at a scenario where Dems must win all of PA/WI/MI and some combo of AZ/GA/NC give or take NV

the right wing bible thumping extremists because they're the loudest and most obnoxious minority
If only they were just loud.

They're extremely politically influential, and that's a problem because their views are pretty much anti-peogress and anti-freedom.

They don't want to function in a society where it is legal and acceptable to live outside of their norms because such society doesn't offer an immediate punishment for members who stray from their doctrine, and this threatens the existence of the doctrine.

It wouldn't be an issue if red states didn't manipulate their electoral process to keep their blue, more populous areas from voting.

I have said this before in this thread: the only way to make the electoral college a non issue is to engage in a campaign to Maine-ify the distribution of electors within a state for all wonner-take-all states. It's a more realistic goal to pursue a national reform movement that distributes the electoral college in proportion with the %age of votes each candidate gets.

Not only does it diminishes the impact of demographic swings, it also makes it possible for third party candidates to run and actually win.

its 98% Dem housing policies.

His kids will continue the chaos

I don’t know how he does it - because it makes no sense - but he obviously got them to vote for him. As much as they’re all idiots I’m not sure they can - I don't think they have the same appeal to the MAGA crowd. They just come across as whiny and out of touch.

Trump's dad lived to be 93, so anyone hoping for nature to take its course are probably out of luck. I'm not sure if his dad was overweight or not though. President JD Vance might actually be worse anyways.

I agree. Don't get me wrong, some of it is people moving for politics (although I think this is greatly overblown), some of it is better weather in the Sunbelt and some of it is the increase in remote jobs so workers don't need to live in major metropolitan areas like New York, LA, DC, Chicago, etc but the number one culprit by far is Democrats doing a poor job of managing their cities through housing policy.

For a while I lived in Walnut Creek, a suburb in the East Bay of California and I noticed people leaving the area before it became a major news story. Everyone said "I love it here but I'm never going to be able to own a home". A lot of those people moved to Nevada or Arizona.

Democrats are headed for an increasingly difficult electoral map. They would need to build a coalition like we've never seen before to win the presidency if the map continues to trend in its current direction.

Frederick Christ Trump Sr doesn’t look overweight?

I agree though that Shady Vance would also be trouble.

The first election with the new census won't be until 2032. Not worth worrying about with how much will change between now and then

In 2004 Bush won Virginia by 8 points which was no surprise given that Republicans won Virginia in every presidential election. That was also the last time the GOP won a presidential election in Virginia. The same thing can be said about Colorado

Other states have gone through similar shifts. Arizona was one of the reddest states in the whole country until it became purple. Florida used to be a slightly bluish purple

Are y'all really that positive that there will be other elections after this?
I’m positive that da American soup lines and bread tickets will be better than the ones certain NTers are used to in Omsk.
