People are quick to fall back on explanations like "America doesn’t want a female president" or labeling voters as biased against women. But if you look at the numbers, it’s clear that this election wasn’t as close as 2016, where Hillary would have won with the popular vote if not for the Electoral College. Replacing Biden with someone from the same administration—without tackling the issues voters are most concerned about, like immigration—was risky. To succeed, the candidate would have needed to make clear, strong commitments on those issues.

This. This is exactly what I think as well. I was initially against Biden dropping out so late but I think Kamala was pretty darn good.


My takeaway is not that Dems failed; it’s that America is failing, as evidenced by the sheer stupidity of many voters last night.

How much is there to learn? In the last two decades, Republican voters were completely fine with Trump’s horrible handling of the COVID pandemic, several of the worst financial meltdowns in US history, useless illegal wars under Bush, deregulations of industries leading to countless disasters/deaths, gun culture being pushed even more after mass shootings, zero effort to curb climate crisis even with natural disasters becoming frequent…

if none of that can get the majority of people to permanently abandon the Republican Party, what else can you do? Genuinely asking how you can even reach out to people who are willing to overlook ALL of that just because Democrats said let trans/gay/immigrants live their lives.

My extremely unpopular opinion: You can't beat immorality with morality and that is what the Democratic party hangs it hat on.

The majority clearly doesn't care about morality.

You have to appeal to their simple interests and let them think that they're benefitting even if they aren't because this is clearly what they want to hear.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you. Democrats have tried the "when they go low, we go high", "combat anger wlow joy"approach a couple times and it has failed.
