***Official Political Discussion Thread***

And too many people staying home has cost them too many close elections in an elector5al system that robs the Democratic Party and its voters of 6 Senate seats, 18 House seats, and being able to win the White House with 50% of the vote.
Exactly.

Every two years, around this time of the year, this discussion resurfaces.

And every two years, people want to be convinced that they should vote or they'll stay home. In the meantime, the right makes steady progress in redefining the political institutions in ways that will hurt those who abstain because "Dems didn't do enough."

As if we don't know that...

You can take the horse to the water, but you can't force it to drink...

Joe Biden didn't promise to use executive action to forgive student loans though

You are correct on the machination to by which this would be done. Even though he does have the power to do it though executive action.

So by his own words this should just be the start, correct?

The party wants 50K which he hasn't seemed to be willing to go to. My first post of the news was that Jada gif, I'm not saying this is bad, it's just not enough when by your own promise this is the "least" you can do.

I do think even this 10K depending on how it's implemented will help at the very least in doing some type of good will towards the base that they need, I don't think it's a conincidence in the timing of the announcement either.

The Congressional party is not unified behind 50K relief from what I have seen. The removal of means testing seems to be what more are pushing for.

A couple of Dems were 50K, mostly Bernie, Warren, and Schumer

Biden is doing an unprecedented action with student loan cancellation on this large a scale, something he will probably have to fight in court. Biden's people think they have a legal argument, we will see if conservative judges agree. It is also something he is gonna get attacked politically on. Not only by the right.

Large-scale student loan forgiveness, as Biden pointed out, like Obama pointed out, is the realm of the legislator. Biden is going beyond what he pledged to try to deliver something, and instead of people saying let us get locked in so Biden can have more votes to really reform the system, people are complaining like he is some cowardly king unwilling to do what is an obvious win

It is the morally right thing to do, and that should be reason enough. I just don't see the need for having to think there is more political upside than there actually this

"Only Florida colleges will admit Florida public high school graduates. Charlie Cris should be able to make a ton of hay out of this."

Is there anything official in terms of schools' policy on this or is it political hyperbole?

He’s such a diet Trump wannabe
He's not diet. He's the evolved form. Compared to Trump, who was mostly driven by greed, DeSantis' potential to irreversibly damage American democracy is up there because he is ideologically driven. Also, anybody who expresses the desire to have an armed force only accountable to the leader (president/governor) before they get elected to a federal office should be kept as far away from power as possible.

What he meant was that the academic level of FL high school graduates will be so low that a good number of them won't be able to be admitted in colleges outside of Florida.

I don't think this is an overblown concern.
