OFFICIAL NYk '22 offseason thread, RJ extended

RJ signing his deal don’t mean Donovan Mitchell trade is not happening in my opinion.

It’s either RJ is not going to be included in a trade OR, maybe they find a 3rd team to trade with

lakers fans seem to think they're in the running somehow 😂. the only team getting donovan mitchell will be the ny knicks.

seems like the jazz were probably interested and the knicks went so far as to play with it. they seemed to have dangled the idea of trading rj as a way to get him to sign for less (4 years vs 5 years) while still remaining relatively solvent for any additional acquisition

Im good with what we have going foward.

Brunson
RJ
Fournier
Randle
Mitch

Rose/Duece
Grimes/IQ
Cam
Obi/Sims
Isaiah

Keels can be sent to the G and waived after.

Semi tragic but the elation is strong. Idc, no one else has been close to him in the last 20.

I'm happy about the RJ signing... hope this means he won't get traded and tbh he shouldn't be traded period

We (fan based / Knicks) needed a homegrown longterm baller. Whether RJ is it or not is to be seen, but it feels good to have a draft stayed pass his rookie contract

shams saying we offered RJ + two unprotected firsts for mitchell

glad we got the extension done but if that’s true the fact that they even dangled him like that and that he’s not even off the table is pretty unsettling

not looking forward to this deal if it gets done at all anymore

trading RJ for Donovan would be a "haha Knicks" thing to do. we finally have a budding young player that actually wants to play here, is a professional, can handle the pressure of NYC, and we're gonna trade him right after giving him an extension?

this is amnestying Billups all over again...a dumbass move.

idgaf about Donovan. a 6'1 average height backcourt isnt going to get us past the first round. the core is supposed to be RJ, Mitch, Randle (eyeroll), and now Brunson. Mitch, Randle, Brunson, and Donovan look like a worse team. you're lying if you think otherwise.

****, no matter how you slice it. Its always lolKnicks. **** on him as long as he’s in the city & then laugh at the org after for letting him go.
The RJ deal was so far from what Ainge was looking for that he couldn’t take it. Two 1sts after starting at 7? Nah. And after getting 4 or whatever for Goober. All the other GMs would be laughing how HE got fleeced.

Most teams, including the Jazz, would like to have Barrett in their lineup. No surprise they wanted him as well. Pretty sure that was a take it or leave it sitch so they left the table, Utah did.

Knicks again have all the leverage and will still be an improved team without Spida.

Sucks that 1 or even 2 would be included. Grimes, Obi & IQ methinks.

Unless IQ goes back to being a backup 2 exclusively, I think we seen enough of him to know that he is what he is.

I really don’t want to do this deal anymore. Donovan is a short SG who isn’t even particularly good at defense in general. In most situations a short SG becomes your sixth man because their height is defensive liability. A coach needs to be able to yank them quick and it not effect the overall strategy.

This trade is to put Mitchell in the starting lineup next Brunson always felt forced. So Brunson/Mitchell are going to be guarding the likes of FVV/Gary Trent, Kyrie/Joe Harris, and Smart/Jaylen Brown in the division? Even if they out score them the defense would be so bad it would equal out. The Knicks should be looking to move Fournier to the bench or a trade him to put Brunson/Grimes out there against those back courts if Grime’s summer league wasn’t a fluke.

Anyhow the Knicks should fall back, those assets shouldn’t be burning a hole in their pocket either, but I don’t think they will because they are the Knicks.

cam wants out. the knicks should honor his request. they've treated him like a total sucker
