Eagles still have some cap wiggle room

Plenty of you have asked whether and to what extent the Eagles have exceeded the 2011 salary cap, given a rash of high-profile acquisitions over the past week.

As it turns out, they still have some room to maneuver.

Based on the most recent numbers that have been provided to us by a source with knowledge of said numbers, the Eagles had $3.882 million in cap room. That’s likely before the acquisition of Ronnie Brown, who signed a one-year, $1 million deal, tackle Ryan Harris, who signed for the minimum, and safety Jarrad Page, who likely got the minimum, too.

Plenty of cap space could be created by a contract extension for quarterback Mike Vick, given that his current cap number matches his one-year franchise salary of more than $16 million. And a long-term deal with receiver DeSean Jackson could consume plenty of whatever surplus a Vick new contract would create.

The 51 highest-paid players on each roster must fit under the $120.4 million spending limit (plus a $3 million one-time exemption) by the start of the 2011 League Year. When the season begins, all 53 players on the roster, along with anyone on injured reserve, must fit under the cap.

Jets free agent WR Braylon Edwards is scheduled to meet tonight with the San Francisco 49ers. Could be a prime spot for a 1-yr deal.

No it isn't.

The Eagles have been doing this for years. If Jackson really thought he was going to blow up, he should have held out for more money in the first place.

and you can't hold out anymore. If you hold out you'll have the same remaining time on your contract when you come back. (don't know exactly how it works with the new cba. just how it is).
