NEW YORK -- Don Marbury, the father of Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury, died Sunday night during the team's home loss to the Phoenix Suns.

Team spokesman Jonathan Supranowitz said no other information was immediately available, other than that Don Marbury wasn't at Madison Square Garden whenhe died. Stephon Marbury was escorted out the arena by security shortly after the game.

Stephon Marbury, whose aunt recently died, scored 21 points Sunday night.

He dressed quickly without speaking to reporters, except for yelling, "Jesus, that's how!" back into the locker room as he left.

Marbury has endured a tough first month of the season. His aunt, on his mother's side of the family, died Nov. 19. Marbury said at the time he also hadanother recent death in his family.

He also left the team during a road trip when coach Isiah Thomas was considering removing him from the starting lineup. A New York native, Marbury has heardboos ever since then at Madison Square Garden.

It was not known if Marbury would play Wednesday night when the Knicks visit the New Jersey Nets.

Don and Mabel Marbury had six other children, four sons and two daughters.

i think JVG would be the best fit as coach for the knicks - basketball-wise.

but politics-wise, i doubt he'd get it.. so.. i'll roll with SHUGES's choice of mark jackson.

RIP don marbury.

if anyone was listenin, stephs cuz just called into wfan saying steph's a mess and hes angry and the family is absolutely disgusted they didn't tellsteph at the half so he could spend his fathers last moments with him because the heart attacked happened before the half....for whatever it means the guycalled in and said "steph isn't playin there no more"

Damn, R.I.P. Don

Steph needs to take his frustrations out on opponents on the court. Keep himself occupied while getting out the anger.

nice to see all the nyc heads in here still caring about the team. true NYC NTers here. yo randolph is taking away mad pllaying time with lee. they were talkinabout the inconsentancy bettween him and curry when they are both on the court at the same tme. during the Pho game last night on MSG channel

RIP

Can't believe they didn't tell him at the half. They feel a W is worth more than seeing your father in has dying moments

with all the stupid backward things that this organization has done this decade, i'm surprised they even told him at all.

That is horrible. That ##@+ is simply just bigger than basketball. If any of my parents was in that condition i would want to spend any amount of their lasttime with them. At all the wack %%+* the oraganization has dne under Isiah, the lawsuit, the lack of loyalty, and all that %%+*. This is BY FAR the worst. Sowhat he can play in a game that they lost anyway. This guy should come back and smack whoever the #$@# was in charge of that whether Isiah or Dolan orshow=ever and hit them in the +**%+@% mouth. i cant express my condolences to Steph. i feel mad bad for this guy right now, with all the deaths, and all the##@+ he takes. he has to be pretty #*!%$# up right now. Steph needs to take some time off to clear his head and be back with his family. RIP Don Marbury

Other than that Isiah is still our head coach and we defend down low like 12 year old%+*%+**$.

I hope thats not true, I'll reserve the right to pass judgement if this story shakes out and is confirmed

I tink that this is indeed true. The guy before said that his cuz spoke to the readio, and that he's pissed, but i think that it is 100% true tha theKnicks did not tell him of his father's death. This is the beginning of the article from Yahoo!...

"Marbury played second half of Knicks loss unaware of father's death
By BRIAN MAHONEY, AP Basketball Writer
December 3, 2007

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -- Stephon Marbury played the second half of New York's loss to Phoenix on Sunday night unaware his father had been taken to ahospital, where he died before the game ended."

I just think that people dont know how angry Steph is yet, cause he hasnt adressed the media, but his cuz called in on the radio and says that he is and i cantblame him one bit here.

Disgraceful on the Knicks part. Just +@@+$@! disgraceul.

It isn't like the organization has given us any reason to believe that stories like this would be untrue.

An now that i think about it..you can almost be POSITIVE that this is true. Who really would still be playing in the game if they knew one of there immediatefamily memebers were being taken to the hospital for something serious like that?
