OFFICIAL NEW YORK KNICKS OFFSEASON THREAD: TRAINING CAMP

how about Jermaine O'Neal if Okafor is unavailable? The only knock with him is he loves the turnaround jumper (which is why he has a low FG % for a bigman) but he would certainly be an upgrade from Curry on the boards and the defensive end.....plus, he's played for Isiah before in Indiana.....also itlooks as though Indy is rebuilding and Larry Bird wants to get rid of JO's contract.....

^LOL @ someone thinking the Knicks played better because Marbury was on the floor. Marbury kept the Knicks in the game before he went out...no Marbury andthere would be no win.

As far as Oakafor goes I think what people are missing is that Oakfor would fit better on this team than Curry. Its not about numbers!! Its about playersfitting into a system! And right now our system can use a guy that grabs 12 boards and gets 2 blocks again. Oakafor would complement Zach very well and bothplayers are good rebounders.

^^Exactly Flatbush. That is exactly what i wrot in my post, that that is what all the haters would say. While Marbury was the only guy keeping us in, and uswinning was solely because of Lee for Curry. And you are exactly right, no marbury = no win. Does any one have an injury update for him? I dont think and ihope its not serious. We need him for Phx. Also if hes not in i hope we start either Nate or Jones and not Collins. But we need Marbury though.

But also Flatbush, tat is the point that i have been stressing all along. what you just said. WH GIVES A ***$ ABOUT #S. Like last year Curry could put up 30 anight, he still wont play D and he still wont rebound and the offense still wont win so we still will lose. Okafor could be the guy that runs the floor welland plays the D, whle Randolph can help out with rebounds and be more of a scoring threat. But Okafor can also score and his size and athletisism will meshwell with Z bo's all around offensive game. And yes if we can get a defender/ rebounder like Okafor instead of Curry our system will be complete. We wouldhave a #1 option in Z Bo. A floor general and a guy who can take it to the hoop and shoot the occasional 3 in Marbury our backcourt slasher scorer and #1backcourt option in Crawford. and than a defensive big man that runs the floor in Oakfor. and than we put energy guys around that. That team has styles thatcontradict each other well and has a nice mix of D and offfense.

Curry is the cancer for the Knicks system. But potentially with the right gameplan he can be a great low post option for another team. But NEVER a #1 or afranchise guy. But he can be a #1 low post scoring guy that doesnt get the ball EVERY time and has nice defenders around him. I think if he was still inChicago that would be the PERFECT fit for him. Have Ben Wallace play PF, and make curry the #1 low post option but keep guys like Deng and Gorden as scoringoptions over him.

Eddy Curry is our worst player. period. I don't live in NY so I rarely use to watch the knicks, so I would catch boxscores and gamecasts. Eddy Curryconsistently put up 20 points. I would think to myself, "wow this guy's a beast he avg. 20 pts. Ya he has no blocks or has like 4 rebs, but the guygets 20-25 pts he should be an all-star". WRONG. Now that I catch most knicks games (Thanks nba league pass streams) I see for myself this guy not onlysucks at D but his name should be spelled Ey Curry becuase he plays No D. I swear it's like his feet are nailed to the floor, the guy can not move and whenhe does get a block, I swear that it's a goaltend. What does it matter if you score 20 pts if you give up 30 pts in lay-ups. The absolute worst part of allis that we run our offense through this bum. He doesn't want to waste his energy on the defensive end becuase he knows he's gonna get it on the offenseend. You have to attempt to play defense to be bad at it. Eddy Curry does not even try to play defense he is simply watching the game like you and me.

Am I the only one that wonders "why do I put myself through this" when following this team. I get so angry and disappointed yet I have to watch thenext game. Is this healthy?

Exactly,, next to Randolph we need a post defender who is NOT ball hungry and runs the floor well. Basically we need the anti Randolph to play with Randolph.Except he needs to rebound like Randolph does and unlike Curry.

If you was to make a coaching change give me 3 canidates better than isiah, thats gonna come in and make the knicks a .500 or better team and if one of those names happens to be KiKi ihaventhadagiginyears vandeweghe i think I'm done with this thread.

Chuck Daly
Paul Silas
Hubie Brown
Rick Pitino
Rudy T
JVG
John Thompson
Mark Jackson

were some of the people named in this thread. And I have to admit, those are some decent choices.

But I agree with most of the people who said that the old-timers probably wouldn't click with this team. So that eliminates Daly, JT, Silas, Hubie &Rudy T. It can be argued that Zeke fits the mold of the "young" coach, but he CLEARLY is not the man for this job. JVG would have been a good fit ifhe didn't already coach here and held a bit of resentment towards the franchise. Ewing would quite possibly have been ready to coach IF the Knicks hadhired him to be an assistant years ago and groomed him for the position.

Can you imagine all the knowledge Big Ew would have picked up from Lenny Wilkins, Larry Brown, etc? Too bad the Knicks (and their fans) ran off both of thoseHOF coaches.

So out of the choices listed, (Mark Jackson and Rick Pitino), I'd prefer to see Mark as coach. He played in NY so he understands the city and the media. Hewas a VERY GOOD (HOF maybe?) pg so maybe he could get through to Steph. Also, Mark was always a fan favorite. And he's proven that he's at least ableto analyze and break down a game (as commentator).

Now, what most of you are forgetting is not only who will replace Zeke as coach. But who will replace him as GM as well? I've heard rumblings that Mullinmight be interested in that spot IF he wasn't already signed with GS. All it would take is a draft pick for compensation. But it would be well worth it Ithink. I'd LOVE to see Mullin/Jackson be the tandem to bring the Knicks back.

But knowing the Knicks FO.... I expect Zeke to make it through the year. Or at least to the All Star break.

Finally, one last thing I'd like to comment on:

The Knicks have chased away 2 HOF coaches, plus Herb Williams, and now maybe Zeke. Four coaches in 5 years!! It's obviously the players (which I said whenLB was in charge) who are the problem. BUT, I don't like the idea of trading the players simply b/c it'll be like rewarding them for playing like !%%#all this time. Keep the players (since they all whined to have Zeke as coach) and let them lay in the bed that they made.

Which is why I think Zeke will be around for a bit longer unfortunately.

^^^Bring back the SJU connection. I would love Jackson and Mulin back in NY to run his team. and good chemistry between coach and GM is VERY important. So thatthey can be on the same page of the players that they want and how they can fit into to the system. That is why a great coach like Brown couldnt be here. Causehe didnt have the players he wanted, and Isiah wasnt giving him the players he wanted.

Just found this article from realgm.com...

"Isiah Thomas' claim that coaching in New York is like being on death row every day is a feeling that his assistant coaches apparently experiencedFriday night as well. According to a source, before the Knicks' dramatic comeback victory over Milwaukee, at least two assistant coaches said that if theteam suffered another blowout loss they were convinced that Thomas and the coaching staff would be fired. Three hours later, the Knicks overcame a 17-point,second-half deficit and won in the final minute. Garden chairman James Dolan, who has not spoken publicly on Thomas' job status since last March, was notseated in his customary baseline seats at the Garden for a third straight home game. There is a possibility that Dolan could have watched any one of the lastthree home games from a luxury suite. Garden president Steve Mills also was conspicuously absent. It is unclear if the two assistant coaches had been told byThomas that no one would survive another ugly loss or if the coaches based their feelings on the fallout from an embarrassing 45-point defeat to Boston onenight earlier on national television. During the TNT broadcast, studio analyst Charles Barkley speculated about Thomas' job security, saying,"He's about as safe as me in a room full of cookies. If I'm in a room full of cookies, the cookies ain't got no damn chance." Later,Barkley said that if the Knicks lost to Milwaukee, "I think it could be (Thomas') last game." Thomas has five full-time assistant coaches on hisbench, not including player development coach Greg Brittenham. Thomas was responsible for hiring Brendan Suhr, Mark Aguirre and George Glymph. Dave Hanners wasbrought in by Larry Brown, while Herb Williams was originally hired by Don Chaney. The Knicks do not allow their assistant coaches to be interviewed. Thomas isunder tremendous pressure to win now, and the fact that he hasn't received public support from either Dolan nor Mills is both telling and unfair to hisentire staff. One week ago, Thomas told reporters that he didn't anticipate a coaching change being made but he wouldn't say whether Dolan had told himthat. Thomas never misses an opportunity to support his case that he deserves more time, and yesterday he reminded reporters that the Knicks, who play host toPhoenix tonight, have won three of their last four games. That streak includes Monday's 113-109 win over Utah, the Knicks' most impressive performanceof the month. Two days later, they suffered one of the most humiliating losses in franchise history, a 104-59 debacle in Boston. They finished November with a5-10 record. "With the exception of the way we played in Boston, (things) are going well," Thomas said after yesterday's practice. "And Ihave no issues or problems with the team or the way anybody is playing. I'm feeling good about us." Thomas desperately wants to paint a picture thatthe Knicks are not a house divided, although there is mounting trouble in the locker room. Thomas' relationship with Marbury is on the rocks, or as oneassistant coach said of Marbury on Friday, "He's got to go." The coaches also are losing patience with Eddy Curry, whose defensive shortcomingsare being exposed each night. Thomas, however, denied that he is disappointed in Curry's play. "With Eddy we've just got to find a way for him toimpact the game on the defensive side of the ball," Thomas said."

I like how they are FINALLY realizing that we ae better without Eddy. At least the assistants are.

EDIT: and Marbury is healthy and will play tonight

John Thompson?

was that made seriously? or are you guys referring to his son?

If the elder one, that's a joke..he couldn't coach anymore his last few years at Georgetown

I would welcome JVG back though

too much god damn one on one. Randolph and Jamal we're looking @ you. Fred jones is the man tho. and yes i switch sided

All i have to say today after the game today is...

Pheonix came in tonight and showed us a good team and how far off we are from a good team.

The first thing though, we can twin if we cant play D inside. Guys are just walking through Randolph and Curry

Thats all for tonight, cause what else is there to say its all been said before. Same %%%* OVER and OVER again. It dont matter though cause Isiah doesnt seemto do anything about %%%*. So why even rant? But i think me at 5'10 can score with EASE on the Knicks. That %%%* is TOO easy.

^Agreed the Knicks can score. But can they show us a defensive stretch?! Offensively this team was great tonight but defensively they were not good at allespecially in the paint. I can live with the Suns hitting the outside shot because they jack up a great amount but uncontested layups..... there is just noexcuse for that.

i admit, i was hyped to zbo when the trade was made.........but damn......pass the ball.

like i said before, transition defense is one of killers.

the Knicks simply don't have a good interior defender........I know Isiah is probably close with Curry, but he's got to put all feelings aside andtrade Curry for a big man.....Even Kwame Brown is more of an inside presence than this guy....at least on the defensive end and the glass.......my dream forthe Knicks is to somehow get Greg Oden
laugh.gif
......

but in all honesty if you are going to keep Curry at lest bring in an assistant coach that can help Curry improve his defense......For instance, Patrick Ewingor even Charles Oakley would help Curry toughen up and battle down low...at least hire them as part time coaches.....because this team is not going anywherewith Curry as the go to guy playing like this and to make it worse Randolph and Curry basically do the same thing.....except Randolph has morerange.....imagine how easy it must be for opposing centers/forwards to defend the Knicks.....I think Curry can fit in with this team if he becomes anintimidating force around the basket offensively and defensively......at least hire Ewing as a part time coach or something.........

Apparently, Steph's father died during the game.
