Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

The Jazz ( a top 3 defensive and rebounding team in the league) just got completely washed by the Warriors.

Sadly the only way to beat this Warriors team is on the offensive side of the ball. Kyrie, Melo, Love, and Lebron would 10000% keep up with Steph, Klay, and KD.

Melo would have to come off the bench, but I'm sure he'll feel the same way AI did. But can you imagine being up by 1 and you're up against Kyrie, Melo, Bron, and Love to take the final shot?

Or Love could move up since Thompson is worthless

"Elite" paint protector and rebounder they said

eh, Love still can't match up against the Drummonds or Kanters of the league. not that he's playing a legit center every night, but you know what i mean. *** it...CP3 and Melo should both go to the Spurs

Coming to the conclusion that DSJ is the guy I want. His only read flag is his knee injury. Not buying the whole "he has an attitude and looked disengaged". Kid can pass, shoot, create, rebound and most importantly has that dog in him. He has that "it" factor that a point guard playing in NYC needs.

Watched enough videos of him working out against players and straight dominating because he's clearly going 110% while his opponents are taking this as drills. As a 17 year old to have that killer instinct is :smokin

I agree with this. I was team Frank for awhile, and I still like Frank, but I'm starting to concern myself more and more with his lack of burst although he doesnt seem to have many other weaknesses besides that, and his ceiling can be incredibly high.

However, I really like DSJ. I honestly think he is a better prospect than De'Aaron Fox who is only going to be drafted later because Fox went to Kentucky while NC State was a mess this season. However, Smith Jr. has decent size, is a freak/almost Westbrook like athlete, and is a much better shooter than Fox. I read an article on Nlitikina where they ranked how each PG prospect fared from NBA 3 in international/NCAA play (not a huge sample size) and was surprised to see that Smith Jr. was the only one who shot above 40%. I think the kid has all the tools available to be a star modern PG, and a GREAT running mate for Porzingis.

I also love the fact that he chose to go to NC State over programs like Duke or UNC because his grandma is a big NC State fan and he relishes the underdog mentality. He seems like a hardcore competitor to me. Plus his experience with dysfunction at NC State this year should make for a pretty seamless transition to NYC.

I'm just worried that knowing Phil, he will pass him up. Phil already has enough triangle resistance from the players on this team, yet he seems hell bent to shove it down everyones throats nonetheless, and Phil is smart enough to know that a PG like DSJ isnt exactly a "triangle PG" and will probably only create more triangle resistance/protests from the players, media, and fanbase. I really hope that Phil isnt petty enough to draft a player based on some outdated system which shouldnt be in use this season and almost certainly wont be around when the player he drafts reaches his prime, unfortunately though, he probably is exactly that petty.

Idk if it was posted in here already, but This article on Smith Jr. from the Post on Sunday really provided a good in detail look at him as a prospect/person. I still like Monk though if he drops.

If DSJ is impressive at his workout tomorrow & he's there at #8, he's the pick.

Everytime I think I'm out, he sucks me back in.

Idk man, just give me any of these PGs. I love Monk, Smith Jr, and Frank. I honestly think Frank has Greek Freak like ceiling and at worse, he should be a defensive specialist for years to come.

Just for the love of God, Phil, dont pass up on one of these PGs. We need a ******* franchise PG already and we should have your choice of 2-3 staring you in the face come draft night. Dont **** that up.

Can't help but to think this Frank kid is gonna be a bust.

Euro PG's suck hard when the come stateside, add to it, this kid's lack of athleticism...idk man.

But then again, I was wrong about KP. Maybe he'll be a pleasant surprise and defy the odds...or maybe he'll be another Beno Udrih.

Frank probably better as a swiss army knife SG than a PG IMO.

I would be worried about DSJr's knee but he seems to be holding up very well post injury. If he checks out ok then I won't be against drafting him at all.

Euro PGs can be fine(Dragic/Parker), I just don't think there he enough evidence there for me to believe in Frank.

I just want us to take the best player available which I believe will be DSJ or Lauri.

Not a fan of Lauri. Its great that he can shoot and all, but i cant ever see him being more than a rotation player. That front court would be way too soft and the defense/rebounding would be atrocious.

If DSJ or Monk aren't there i'm ok with trading down for Mitchell

These aren’t heady days for the Mets, but for the club’s director of player relations, Donovan Mitchell, they are exciting, nerve-wracking times.

Donovan Mitchell Jr., his son, has risen on the Knicks’ radar and is being considered for the eighth pick in the draft. According to sources, Mitchell, a Louisville combo guard, has a workout planned with the Knicks in Tarrytown this week.

edit: After watching 20 minutes of draftexpress videos I'm sold on him. Might be a slight reach at 8 but if we move down to 10 or 12 & take him I would love that.

Smith being available for workouts & meetings could give him an edge over Ntilikina.

Frank's season in France ends June 23rd iirc so he won't have the opportunity for a private workout or merting.

i'm cool with either dennis or malik monk. watched some donovon mitchell video's and he looks interesting
