**Official '11 NYK LOCKOUT thread*** lockout over

The Knicks will be fine next year.

It's easier for a bunch of role players to come together and play team ball than it is for 2 all-stars to come together and play well.

Once they get a training camp under their belt they'll be fine, the rest of this season is basically just practice and getting comfortable for them.

Although, they should look for a new coach, IMO.

Or because the nuggets could probably be a much deeper team the Knicks i mean almost every person on that team has started at one point in their life

I must admit this end of the world after a loss mentality could be annoying. The goal of the start of the season was to make the playoff and it looks like we're in track to do so. Every team struggles at points in the season

I'm willing to give D'antoni a whole off-season and preseason to come up with more plays for our sf. I must this team does not resemble a D'antoni style offense. Billups doesn't push up the ball and rarely ever penetrates and p&r forget about it. I hope wants to go back to Denver next season

Thanks for the help fella's... Great %$@+!!* Job!!!

Amare and Melo only had a combined 5 shots in the 4th quarter. That seems to be an issue

I did some research and found Dantoni's half court sets

Team won't be judged until the playoffs anyways (even then I am holding judgement until a different roster is built around the team and a different coach).

...and I like Billups, but he still isn't on the same page with the team and has been turning the ball over a lot since he came back from his injury. I rarely see him run any pick and rolls for STAT, and when he does it's usually a failed attempt. We def need to go a different route with a PG this off season and some bigger bodies up front.

I liked the effort last night, but down the stretch there was a lot of confusion and panic began to set in, Boston can close a game and we cannot do so yet.

....and who cares about how Denver is doing. I hope they continue to do well, but we were a .500 team before Melo got here, let's not act like we were on pace to be the 3rd seed.

After this tough stretch, I seen a lot of different things that were bad. But not a lot of consistently bad areas.

A lot of the time we played horrible Defense, but there were instances where we played great Defense.

For the most part Melo has played great IMO. Sometimes he forces too much. Makes bad passes, like last night I remember about 3 passes he threw into traffic. Draws charges trying to get to the line.

Amare still doing his thing. Actually rebounded a little bit more last couple games.

But it's just been adjustments at the the end of the day.

Billups came back and still hasn't grabbed the teams flow either. With him controlling the game we are going to be safe. Everyone isn't on the same page and Billups not being totally in tuned makes it worse.

Mike D'Antoni hasn't made enough progress with the team to me though. I'm not going to totally go against him yet, though. I mean he isn't going to get the players 100% respect right away or even ever if they don't start to succeed. Pringles still has played with the line-up more then I thought he would. Some choices are questionable IMO, but he's made some good moves. But I think Pringles with Walsh will be able to mold a great team in time for the playoffs.

At this point it's about preparing for the playoffs. Yeah, you want to win while preparing to gain confidence, but you can tell that when we play top teams the effort is there and confidence isn't really an issue. That's why we were even winning that game last night. Off effort. We should be able to get the structure right and the rotation on point by the playoffs. If they don't show effort against a top team in the Playoffs then we have a coaching problem for sure.

People really are under-estimating the importance of a PG who can run an offense to a T and know everyone' strengths and weaknesses.

Its a tough spot for Billups especially since he is older and limited physically. He'll make some

plays here and there since he is extremely talented, but on his off days the team comes down with him.

Well since I'm the one who made the fair weather comment, I'ma take that as a bit of a personal attack.

You really gonna sit here and act as if fans didn't blatantly come out and say they want the Knicks to NOT make the playoffs? Or that the bandwagon suddenly get super full AFTER the Melo trade was made? Where were all these same fans during the "bleakest moments"? Oh, that's right... they weren't around. And THAT is the definition of fair-weather.

And the definition of fickle... do you even know it? Cuz yeah, when you say extend Mr Big Shot after one game and then say to get rid of him in the next, THAT is being fickle. Or when you guys beg for the Melo trade to get done and then want a do-over just 16 games later, that too is being fickle.

Yet, MY comments were the dumbest you read?

I've seen less of the fairweather fans at least on NT than fickle fans. There certainly are the people who started following when Amare, then Melo came along (less on NT but more in "real life"), but certainly fickle fans are abundant on here.

I get posting in the heat of the moment, but when people come back a day later and are still asking to cut or trade players not two days prior they were praising, that's where I get annoyed as a fan on here.
Why are the Knicks playing so much slower?
Last night against the Celtics, the New York offense went completely into the toilet in the second half. The team scored only 35 points the last 24 minutes and was outscored 24-3 in the last seven minutes. I talked a lot about it already, but I couldn't help but think today, what gives?

I mean, the Knicks have two of the top 10 or 15 offensive players in the league, maybe the top offensive coach in the game and a quality point guard that knows how to run the show. Why would they have problems?

One thing comes to mind: They're playing slower. Much slower. For the season, the Knicks play at a pace of 95.7 (second in the league), but over the last five, that number has dipped to 92.3 (that's bottom half). During that stretch, New York has averaged 102.6 points per game, as opposed to 106.2, which is what they average on the season.

Look at Monday night against the Celtics. The Knicks played at a Blazers-esque 89 possessions for the game. That's slow , especially for a team that prides itself on running and gunning. Hoopdata ran some numbers on how the Knicks have slowed down and what's become clear is that instead of setting tempo and making opponents uncomfortable, New York is playing to its opponents pace. There's no more

After watching closely, it comes down to two things to me: 1) It's an intentional effort to slow the game down which results in fewer defensive possessions, where the Knicks struggle and 2) Carmelo Anthony slows them down by himself.

What do I mean by that? Well, it's simple: Melo stops the ball. The Mike D'Antoni offense is all about quick passing, movement and shooting. But when the ball goes to Anthony, it stops right there. He's not a willing passer, at least in the sense that he doesn't like to pass without first looking at his chances of scoring.

It's kind of weird though because it's not like Melo isn't used to tempo. Remember, he played in Denver and George Karl had that team running. The Nuggets were a top five pace squad. So like I said, it's a combination of intentionally slowing down along with Melo stopping the ball. The real question is why, because as Monday's loss to Boston showed, it's frustrating. The Knicks tried to beat the Celtics at their game which is like me trying to beat up Brock Lesnar without a baseball bat and six other friends.

Obviously at this moment, the adjustment's not working. D'Antoni keeps talking about how they're working and how they're trying to get there. Maybe what he means is that they're making an adjustment to a new style. The Knicks want to go more defensive and so as a result, the offense is going to suffer for now. Maybe it's a trade they're willing to deal with while they adjust.

Whatever the case, it's pretty ugly right now. The Knicks aren't running, they aren't scoring and they aren't playing defense. It's confusing because the team is built to get out in transition and with two terrific offensive players, the fact they can't score is a real brainbuster.

I haven't posted much because you people annoy me lol

the only thing I've been doing is editing the thread title

Its pretty obvious the team hasn't even remotely resembled and Mike 'Antoni offense the past few weeks, Billups is not really an up tempo kinda PG (at least not consistently) and Melo does hold the ball.

The offense did look good during the first half of last night though, but they just stopped afterwards.

Things are just not settled in, and this could take a long while (maybe beyond this season/playoffs).
