Years Pro: 2

3rd year. Doesn't matter ... I count it like that.

And NoWitness : you said what would Serge have to do, and I said put up the #'s that Noah did in last year's Playoffs.

That's where everyone started paying attention to him/confidence.

c'mon...
Your list falls apart after 3 or 4. Camby scores 7 ppg. Horford is the 4/5 battle with Noah, but will most likely get exposed by Dwight next series.

Kaman, Gasol, and Lopez all have teams with poor defensive ratings...and they're centers. Joakim also smokes this trio in rebounding.

He turned it up a notch in the past month or so.  Consider how he has played lately. April splits: 13.8, 13.4 rebounds, and 2.13 blocks on 56% shooting. He has arrived.

And i hate doing this. He's an #+!@%%%.

Joakim ain't Courtney Lee... Noah can actually play. Pretty damn well, in fact... But he's not one of the five best centers in basketball. He's not some monster difference-maker that OKC should regret passing over for Jeff Green.

Maybe I need to watch more Clippers games...you guys think Kaman is definitely better?

There's no question Kaman is a much better scorer, but Joakim is a better rebounder, passer, and defender, at least from what I've seen. I know the Bulls would never run a play for Joakim, and Kaman can get on the block and score, so I guess that cancels out Joakim's advantages. I dunno, I didn't think it was that much of a reach but I could be wrong. *shrugs*

In no way am I saying Noah is a top 5 center though.

But, he does the intangible things throughout the game that Green does along with giving you double digit rebounding, more length in the paint, and toughness.

his list is just fine expect for horford and maybe even camby. camby doesnt use his offense game anymore and plays the same role as noah.

I had to make sure today was the 21st, and not the 20th.

you guys are getting ridiculous over here.

Haralabos Voulgaris is the former skycap with the analytical mind thathe once used to beat sportsbooks. Now he is trying to get a job in theNBA, has stopped betting on basketball, and is using the database forthings like trying to beat my mom in the TrueHoop Stat Geek Smackdown.

Voulgaris recently started a blog called Alone in the Corner, where he uses his database to name the NBA's worst defenders.

Making the list are:
  • Jonny Flynn
  • Kevin Martin
  • Andres Nocioni
  • Charlie Villanueva
  • Andrea Bargnani
Honorable mentions are: J.J. Barea, Jeff Green, Yi Jianlian, DrewGooden, Al Jefferson, Will Bynum, Jordan Farmar, Derek Fisher and DavidWest.

How did he come up with this? A few years ago, Voulgaris discussed aspects of his database on TrueHoop:
In the basketball analytic world (stat geeks), peopletalk of Offensive and Defensive Efficiency (points per possession). Itake it a step further and break down the efficiency of different typesof possessions. Possessions off of turnovers, made baskets, missedshots (broken down a step further types of missed shots), etc.

As I mentioned, once you have the data you can begin to do all sorts of cool things with it.

The NBA has an interesting application on their site called "HotZones" that shows you how a player shoots from a certain spot on thefloor. I can give you the same information but I can break it down withmuch more detail.

Take Kobe Bryant for example. We have every shot he (and every other player in the league) has taken in the last five seasons.

How does Kobe Bryant's shooting chart look when Bruce Bowen is onthe floor (guarding him)? How does it look with Shane Battier? (I know, small sample size, but you get the idea).

How does it look with X lineup for the Lakers, or how does it look with just Gasol on the floor, and on and on.

These last few pages have been comedy.

Kneesh.

I could see the argument of Noah neing better than Horford but not Bogut and Kaman.

Some of you guys' don't watch Bulls games, so you wouldn't understand the DIFFERENCE Noah makes. He's AVERAGING a double-double.

Without him, we went on a 10-game losing streak.
Candidate for dumbest post of the year...
