The biggest issue that I'm surprised hasn't been discussed with the expansion of the new playoffs, which is extremely dumb on a lot of levels, is the risk of injuries to key players... every play is risky enough.


You get injuries to valid contenders' key guys i.e. Von Miller, Aaron Rodgers, Gronk etc. in the early rounds of a new format and it's just another asterisk to the validity of a season.

So my friend is a big Alex Smith fan, and subsequently has adopted the Chiefs as his second team (dont shoot the messenger here. I think it is as absurd as you guys probably do). We were chatting last night and he was giving me the whole "I feel so bad for Alex" song and dance, as well as the 100% blame to the defense.

So it got me thinking. I brought this up, and of course, he like a child, said I was way off base and ended the conversation. I want your guys' opinion on this. My statement to him was "it is arguable that the Colts defense played as bad as the Chiefs defense did, maybe worse when you consider the turnovers.."

Now, I know there is a huge difference between giving up a 28 point lead and a team that allows that lead to be built, and then starts to play better D after. But look at the numbers.

Total Yards given up: 536 to 513 in favor of the Colts D
3rd down percentage: 56% to 50% in favor of the Chiefs D
Turnovers created: 4 to 1 in favor of the Chiefs D
Sacks: 2 to 1 in favor of the Colts D

I mean, it looks pretty similar to me. The biggest difference being the 4 turnovers to 1....which is in favor of the Chiefs! Both defenses were god awful, and that was really the point I was trying to make.

Can anyone chime in on this? I am out of line here?

Haha whatever man.  He knows how I feel about supporting two teams.  There's nothing really to put him on blast about.

I was more so curious to know if you guys thought I was off base with what I was arguing with him about.  Obviously, I touched a nerve, so I dont know if it was him being sensitive after a loss, or my point being wrong/off.

Congrats, you beat THE GREAT Kansas City Chiefs by one point at home when they lost their best player on the first series in addition to arguably their 3rd biggest asset on offense later in the same game in addition to needing a miracle to win*, at home, by one point.

But I don't think he will. But I also don't think it's fair to put it all on him.

I truly believe defense wins championships. And Den Defense struggled against SD that second game. They controlled that clock very good. And that's the best way to beat Peyton. Keep him of the field.

I think SD wins because like I've said before they just looking like one of those teams this year.

But that defense will be the reason Den lose if they lose, especially without Von Miller.

Smh if they add another playoff team. 6 is more then enough. A playoff spot is supposed to go to a good team, not just anyone should get in due to oversaturation.

Moving forward what they really need to fix is the flawed setup where a team can win a crappy division at 8-8 or 9-7 and have a home game against a 12-4 or 11-5 5 or 6 seed. Since they reformatted the divisions in 02, this problem has been happening way to often.

I'm cool with division winners getting a guaranteed playoff spots. Even though there may be a rare case where a 7-9 team wins a weak division while a 10-6 team misses the playoffs. There has to be some incentive to win your division. But a guaranteed playoff spot in its own right is a very fair incentive. But if you don't have the better record you don't deserve a home playoff game.

Its not hard to reseed the teams based on record

This is my gripe with Peyton. Regular season, 4th quarter game on the line, its 3rd down and you know he's converting it. You know he's driving his team down and scoring and getting the win while putting points up like a madman and its fun to watch.

Playoffs, he doesn't necessarily crap the bed and go Andy dalton on us, but little things like failing to concert key third downs and making the plays to extend drives he doesn't always do in January. Key example, 2010 wild card game 3rd and 6th, get a first down and run the clock out and kick the game winning field goal, he doesn't do it and the jets drive down and win. That's a pass he completes in the regular season. The ravens game last year, he had a decent game statewise but it was alot of drives that stalled and that's on him.

Regular season, I feel like he's in total control of the game when their on offense even if they don't convert or lose, that confidence that he's going to get the job done is there and he usually gets it done. I haven't had that feeling with him come playoff time. It seems like he tries to do to much and over analyze things or something, I don't know what it is though.
