ESPN.com's Chad Ford reports the Timberwolves traded the rights of the No. 3 pick in the draft, O.J. Mayo, to the Grizzlies for the rights to the No. 5 pick in the draft (UCLA's Kevin Love) shortly after the NBA draft ended.
As part of the deal, the Timberwolves will also send Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker and Greg Buckner to Memphis for Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal and Jason Collins.
Not sure what I think of this because I'm a big fan of both Mayo and Love.. Timberwolves do get Mike Miller.. The rest are just filler..
Hours after the draft concluded, the Wolves sent Mayo, forward Antoine Walker and guards Greg Buckner and Marko Jaric to Memphis for Love, shooter Mike Miller and frontcourt retreads Brian Cardinal and Jason Collins.
When I first read this, I read "front court ******s"![]()

But I don't know, I HATED this trade at first, now I'm kind of feeling okay about it. Hopefully Love turns into a great player, but I don't see if this is good for Jefferson. He'll have to guard the opposing teams Center and also go up against him on offense. We'll see how it works out, I hope McHale sees something in this kid that the rest of us and the other teams don't, because I thought Mayo was the better pick.
PG- Foye
SG- Brewer
SF- Miller
PF- Love
C- Jefferson
^ My starting lineup
I'm not going to rule out a trade here, because Miller is very out of the ordinary for our team because of his age...so we'll see if he's wearing a T'Wolves jersey at the beginning of the season. I wouldn't mind it, but if we can find a team that covets Miller enough, maybe we can get a very good young player in return. We'll see.

I feel you with that cheap center comment![]()
Does Doleac have a brother we can sign?![]()
But I feel the same way, I was sooo pissed off last night, now I'm just choosing to be optimistic about it cuz there's nothin we can do about it.
Btw, JPZ, I see you changed that avy back real quick just like me![]()
Getting Skinny who can shoot..
Miller can do MUCH MORE than just shoot. granted, he is the smoothest 3 pt shooter in the league, but he can do it all. He fills up the stat sheeton a nightly basis. He can create his own shot and attack the rim, he can grab boards like a beast, he's unselfish and can pass like a 6'8" pointguard, overall he's just solid in every aspect.
and Miller is from South Dakota so I'm sure he's happy to be closer to home which could result in a career year!
can't wait to see MM33 in a T-Wolves jersey! he'll be a fan favorite.![]()
Person in NBA: 76ers close to trading Rodney Carney, top pick to Minnesota
By DAN GELSTON, Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA - The 76ers are close to trading forward Rodney Carney and a future No. 1 pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a deal that clears salary cap space for Philadelphia to make a stronger push for free agents, a person in the NBA told The Associated Press today.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade had not yet been completed and the NBA trade moratorium is not lifted until Wednesday.
The 76ers will throw in reserve forward Calvin Booth, but are working out the particulars of what they will get back from Minnesota.
A proposed trade between the teams was first reported by Yahoo.com.
The deal allows the rebuilding Timberwolves, who have long been one of the worst cap managers in the league, to continue putting themselves in a position to be a major player on the free agent markets in 2009 and 2010.
Carney has one year remaining on his contract with a team option for 2009-10, while Booth will come off the books at the end of the upcoming season, unless a buyout agreement is reached before that.
The work started last season, when they traded Blount and Ricky Davis to Miami for Antoine Walker, Michael Doleac and Wayne Simien, allowing them to rid themselves of Blount's bloated contract.
On draft night in June, the Timberwolves were able to unload the Marko Jaric's hefty deal, shipping him to Memphis with O.J. Mayo, Walker and Greg Buckner for Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Jason Collins and Brian Cardinal. All three of the Grizzlies in that deal have contracts that will expire no later than 2010.
That freedom will allow the team to pursue a big-name free agent or two to supplement a rising young core group of Al Jefferson, Randy Foye, Corey Brewer and Rashad McCants.
For the Sixers, the deal clears the way to potentially offer a nearly $14 million starting salary and a long-term deal to free agents like forwards Elton Brand or Josh Smith. The emerging Sixers now have another $2 million in salary cap space to add to the $11 million in space available that they hope will land them the post player they badly need to become contenders in the Eastern Conference.
Well, another first round pick......
A deal that will give Philadelphia salary-cap room to sign Elton Brand or Josh Smith and brings the Wolves back potentially a fourth first-round pick next summer is expected to be finalized Wednesday, when the NBA's nine-day moratorium on free-agent signings and trades ends.
Sixers prospect Rodney Carney and aged center Calvin Booth seem superfluous in a deal that gives the Wolves a first-round pick - top 15 protected in 2009 - that Utah sent to Philly last season in the Kyle Korver trade.
The hunch here is that the Wolves use some of their assets - they also could own Boston's, Miami's and their own first rounders next summer - and perhaps the expiring contracts of Booth and maybe Carney to swing another trade that could address, among other things, their need for point-guard depth. A team such as Memphis, trade partners with the Wolves just two weeks ago, has too many guards (Kyle Lowry?).
Looks like Wednesday will bring trade action but not necessarily any free-agent signings. Craig Smith's agent said Tuesday he is hopeful to receive an offer sheet from another team by the end of the week that he can bring to the Wolves to match or not and Ryan Gomes' agent expects talks with other teams to extend into next week. No word lately on Sebastian Telfair, whose agent has not returned phone calls.
