**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

I don't mind Magic being brought in, and having some input... But I don't want him calling the shots....

Also the way it's been gone about is really bad. It feels cheap, vindictive, and just all out despicable... You can say whatever the hell you want about Mitch & Jim. But the leaking of family business, and leaking of other information creating this one sided public squabbling has been extremely stupid and absolutely destructive idea by Jeanie.

I get her motive for it, and understand her power play. BUT, it's actually damaging the team.

We didn't get Free Agents because we were not a good team.. Absolutely understandable.... That's the reality of when you're not very good.

But when you throw on top Jeanie just trashing the VP of Basketball OPs & GM in public out of the blue every few months, we not only look like a terrible basketball team. But a team that will have no ability to even pull ourselves out of it.

The timing of these things always seem to be catastrophic too.. Hell one of these stupid inside source stories happened right before Free Agency.

I have zero confidence in Jeanie..... I have barely any confidence in Magic calling the shots.

I'd rather just stay the course with Mitch & Jim, and let them groom Ryan West along with Joey & Jesse Buss

Well according to that Momo article, Mitch hasn't been exactly great at connecting with agents/players and has been frustrating to deal with, so there's that

No one said they can't be better at their jobs... They've made mistakes. Hell even Neil Olshey who I really like up in Portland, and liked him with the Clippers over the last offseason has been awful. Evan Turner, Allen Crabbe, Moe Harkless, Meyers Leonard & CJ McCollum all getting paid.. They'll have the highest Salary next season, for that.

There's a few things I don't care about in that article that is fluff and irrelevant when it comes to Mitch... Pau, Lowry, Ed Davis (we asked him to wait and we would pay him, he didn't want to wait), Trevor Ariza & Eric Gordon.... All were not happening, or we replaced that guy with someone else. Or in Ariza's case, his agent was playing with us, and we were chasing Ron anyway. How is that Mitch's fault. Ariza wanted to come back, his agent was screwing around, we saw an upgrade and took it?

IT2 & Baze, that's on Mitch... But at the time IT2 wasn't what he is now... He wasn't even this last year.. We're also not the only ones who missed with IT2 either.

We chased stars looking for a replacement to Kobe.... That is the "Laker way," which needs to die by the way.. And this old "Laker way" is exactly how Magic will operate as well...

But at least Mitch & Jim have been patient. They are letting the young guys be, not shopping them every 5 seconds. Trying to build something, and supplement it with a star on top of it. Rather than gutting everything for a star, and having to go back a few steps.

Is Mitch not being totally polite to Jeanie?? Probably not.. But when she's constantly leaking bad things about you and your colleagues, then it's on her as well, and you can't really fault Mitch for wanting to keep everything on the basketball side to themselves.

These news stories are only going one way, and there's a reason for that.... She keeps meddling into basketball affairs, and every time it's embarrassing.

Jim & Mitch are not leaking stories on Jeanie..... There's been stories blaming Mitch & Jim's management style, while going on and on for paragraphs about Jeanie's damn dog.

So if Mitch & Jim are not totally cordial to Jeanie.... Can you really blame them?

But there have been occasions when his failures become Jeanie's. Because she manages the team's corporate partnerships, like with television partner Spectrum Cable, she is the one managing the fallout from the team's four-year downturn on the court and underwhelming free-agent signing, even though she has very little control over the basketball operations staff.

While she has never directly asked her brother and Kupchak to consult with her on the decisions being made on basketball matters, in 2014, after the Lakers ran out of players during a game against the Cavaliers, she pointedly asked Kupchak if there was any other support she could give so that didn't happen again.

The game was an embarrassment for the Lakers and the NBA. The Lakers had allowed Steve Nash to play the night before, knowing he'd be unavailable on the second night of a back-to-back, while concurrently deciding not to sign Manny Harris for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expired. The Lakers ended up with only four eligible, healthy players for the final 3:32 of the game when Chris Kaman fouled out and Jordan Farmar and Nick Young left with injuries. Video of Kaman lying down on an empty bench with a towel over his face went viral.

The next day, Jeanie Buss found herself dealing with the fallout from both corporate partners and league officials. When she saw Kupchak at the Lakers' facility that day, she couldn't help but ask the leading question about her support.

For example this is just nonsense....

We won that damn game.. Pretty easily at that.

What are the odds that 2 guys foul out, and 2 guys leave the game injured?

And there's complaining that we didn't sign Manny Harris for the rest of the season? Really?

Jeanie to Mitch after the Cleveland game: "let me know what I can do to help so that this doesn't happen again"

:rollin

I remember that game. Lakers were up big for most of the second half. Was disappointed when the same got close.

I'm still mad Sacre didn't go for a 7th foul

Was that the game where Kaman was laid out on the bench?

This is the gist of the whole article. A bunch of events that wouldn't have turned out much differently no matter who was in charge

I honestly feel that Magic and Jeanie are leaning a tidbit too hard on the idea of the lakers being great again b/c Magic was a great laker. I also feel as tho the youth movement is Jim and Mitch's idea which is good but that philosophy seems to be on a collision course with the plans that Magic and Jeanie have. I'd hate to see this entire process scrapped over night and we lose future stars like Zu or Brandon for old talent

Youth movement Jim & Mitch's idea?

Which brings me to this... Magic wants Lonzo. His eyes was glued to the floor during that UCLA game. Popcorn crumbs all on his face. Haven't seen Magic that locked in on a game since Kobe. Idk that means for DLo. Brandon either (who struggled mightily)

31 pts, 11 reb, on 80% field goals today. And what's even more remarkable is that he's gotten better and better as the season's progressed.

Hands down the best two-way player among the top college prospects.

I expect him to go #1 especially if he explodes in the NCAA Tournament

Fultz is locked down at 1. JJ is locked down at 2.

If we get the 3rd pick, **** gets interesting. I guess they'd go Ball at 3.

Is Jackson a 3 in the league? Looks like he could play the 4. Crazy athletic, we need that.

Sounds like it's a rest thing, and no surgery needed RIGHT NOW... He'll probably end up playing in March, and then miss the rest of the season a week later
