Ventura used to make fun of annoucers names...like calling Pat Patterson - Jack Patterson, etc...But the name or nickname he gave Gene wasn't super condescending, it is kind of funny, perhaps, in a way, illustrating how the boys, not just Ventura, felt about Gene. They liked him. He was one of them imo.
