The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted emergency use authorization (EUA) to Rutgers’ RUCDR Infinite Biologics and its collaborators for a new collection approach that utilizes saliva as the primary test biomaterial for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the first such approval granted by the federal agency.

I’ve been wondering this. Like with the flu if you get it you are immune to that specific one until a new mutation or variant that is different enough come along right?

but this virus sounds more like it’s potentially a chronic lingering thing that not everyone will become immune to.

essentially yes. antibodies “read” an antigen to see if it matches what their programmed to attack. If it matches then the antigen gets “tagged” for death. A mutation will change that programming so the existing antibody doesn’t recognize it.
