They won't give out $2000 a month because the wealthy people in the United States think that middle or lower class people are all lazy and would just kick their feet up and enjoy being home everyday for $2000. They'd rather risk those classes of people being at risk of illness or death over the idea of giving them "free money" to stay safe.

that's the worst part. Certain major figures in our government believe 24k a year (essentially about 40k salary before taxes) is enough that a huge amount of our population would take that and not work until the money expired.

The problematic aspect of this is the government is essentially admitting that there are a ton of people that feel $24k in one year is a massive amount of money, which is a reflection of the lower-middle class struggles our country currently has. But rather than address this issue and try to figure out a long term solution to assist these struggling families, they'd rather have an approach of "not our ****in problem. Go back to work or we're not giving you ****"

I've been following the politics of it a bit. We just bailed out businesses again with the last stimulus package, with more PPP (forgivable loan if used to keep employees), EIDL funding (loan for small busineses). Democrats were asking for stimulus package for the people, Republicans said let's help our struggling businesses first so they passed this last one. Now, Dems are like "alright, we gave you what you wanted...businesses got relief". Republicans now NEED liability insurance for businesses or people are about to sue the hell outta businesses. Fed chair said this is not the time to be worried about debt..
Republicans are favoring stimulus plans like like a re-hire or sign on bonus, and payroll taxcut as people working will get more money in their pockets, while unemployed will see no benefit giving incentive to go back to work.
To be clear, nothing is imminent, all are just "proposals".

The Ministry of Health (SSa) reported this Sunday, May 10, from the National Palace that the cases of coronavirus registered in Mexico are 35,022 and 3,465 deaths.

Dr. Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, read the technical report at the evening press conference number 72, where he indicated the progress of COVID-19 in each state and indicated the most affected entities after 49 days of the implementation of the National Day of Healthy Distance.

Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Tabasco, Veracruz and Baja California are the five entities with the most confirmed cases; those that carry less are Campeche, Zacatecas, Baja California Sur, Durango and Colima.

The incidence rate of active cases in the country per 100,000 inhabitants is 6.48. The highest rates are found in Mexico City, Tabasco, and Morelos. The minors in Durango, Oaxaca, and Colima.
