c'mon son im not a cat
i copied and pasted it from my outlook but made an edit. calm down

Either way.. I agree to a point, although my experience is from the customer side. Generally, when dealing with any government agency related to construction, most of these employees tend to look for someone else that can help you. A lot of these tasks are simple.. Is the issue too many people working at different levels, or is it just a lack of competency? Either way, I don't think it is fair that they will let a less qualified person with a connect get in over a better candidate...

Not correct - I am the only American born of my family. I have two sisters currently working for and my father retired from state jobs - all did not attend college, and all are Philippine immigrants. They all do not/did not get paid very much at all - I make much more than all have (I don't make very much either). While they can do the functional portion of their job well, some usage is learned over the course of working... computer use is one of those tools that can be learned as time goes forward.

Yup. I work for a database software company. We get people from government to private industry that have no idea what they're doing.

Eh.

I think the dumbest workers I have ever encountered are actually help desk for electronics products.

For example, the apple store employees at the genius bar are total idiots. It's actually a bit ironic. I swear I know more about the devices than these paid tools. You are better off googling the solution or taking your device to a third party specialist to trouble shoot it.

As someone who tries to pilfer government monies on a daily basis, I agree with the thread title. Its both a good & bad thing.

Still don't understand this train of thought. If the government position is not one that is based strictly around computer knowledge - example, maybe they are client facing and deal with more interactions and completing signature transactions, and they only need to use the computer very infrequently - and use support sparingly - how is that incompetent to their job position? Moreso - if you entered your position knowing it as tech support and you understand that your position is to assist users with low understanding - and that's what you are paid for, what's the complaint?

"how you not know how to ping a website? how you not know how to do a tracert?" - I have no idea on how to do either of these, btw.

On the other end, I believe that these lower level questions should be filtered through direct management - but, again there can be other factors to that, as well.
